I’ve seen plenty of supplemental batteries for mobile gadgets, but they’re usually just rectangular bricks without any particular style about them. The guys over at Apel-π (pronounced “apple pie”, of course) decided to do something about it, by releasing a line of external batteries that look like a slice of Apple.

AURORA, Colo. (AP) — Three people wounded in the shooting that killed 12 people at a Colorado theater have filed lawsuits alleging the exit door the gunman used to enter the building should have had an alarm.
Two lawsuits were filed Friday in U.S. District Court on behalf of Denise Traynom, Brandon Axelrod and Joshua Nowlan. Their attorney, former Denver judge Christina Habas, declined to comment. A spokeswoman for Cinemark USA Inc. had no immediate comment.

Three years after the Great Recession officially ended, boomers are still having a hard time making ends meet and finding jobs, according to a new AARP report.
The report, “Boomers and the Great Recession: Struggling to Recover,” paints a grim picture of post 50s’ mindsets when it comes to their financial well-being. A sample of “current or recent workers” ages 50 to 64 were contacted in October 2010, with a smaller group contacted again in August 2011 to see if boomers felt any differently about their prospects.
“The recession’s effects on older Americans were particularly severe for salary earners in their 50s and early 60s who were counting on more than a few years of additional earnings before retirement and were unlucky enough to lose their jobs.”

Search histories are perhaps the most incriminating tracks we leave on the internet. Google’s allowed its users to delete search data for a while, and although few choose to, it makes a lot of people feel better. Facebook’s search history may be even more incriminating than Google’s history. Have you ever searched for a ex? Facebook today allowed users to delete their search histories.
To take a look, go under the Activity Log button on your homepage. In addition to the ability to delete it, you can look back over your previous searches–try not to feel too embarrassed. Since this is now on your page when you’re logged in, signing out becomes more important. Not only can someone who is signed into your profile read your old messages, but your old search queries as well. So you should definitely log on and take a look at what you’ve searched, and if you don’t like what you see, please, for everyone’s sake, delete it. Nobody should read someone else’s diary–or search queries.

Well this is an interesting bit of news: iDownloadBlog’s Jeff Benjamin has discovered that Verizon’s iPhone 5 is indeed GSM unlocked. The way he discovered this was by cutting up an AT&T micro SIM card and putting it in his freshly-acquired iPhone 5 from Verizon. To his surprise (and ours), the iPhone picked up an AT&T signal, and he was able to hop onto the carrier’s HSPA+ network and do a little bit of surfing.
Verizon later confirmed to him that their version of the iPhone is GSM unlocked, which in theory means that you could pick up a micro SIM from AT&T or T-Mobile and take advantage of their networks. That’s going to take a bit of work though, as it sounds like Benjamin had something of a rough time getting that AT&T micro SIM to fit into his Verizon iPhone 5.
What’s even more exciting is that Verizon is giving these phones to people who are on contact. Benjamin says that he attempted this micro SIM switcheroo on the same day that he picked up his iPhone 5 from Verizon (today), which also happened to be the day that he signed up as a Verizon customer for the first time. This, obviously, is good news for travelers, as it means that they can potentially switch between networks if they need to while on the road, despite signing a two-year commitment to Verizon.
The fact that the iPhone 5 comes in three different models that support various LTE bands has proven to be a headache for some consumers, and we’ve been talking about how it highlights a broader LTE problem since the different models were revealed. After all, this LTE issue isn’t only limited to the iPhone 5, but thankfully Verizon has at least done something that helps with it a bit. What do you think? Does this help sway you more toward Verizon as your iPhone 5 carrier of choice?
