Steam To Support Canadian Dollar From October 7

steam canadaWhen it comes to our neighbors who happen to live in the Great White North, it is nice to see what is available over in the US also being made available there. Having said that, we did read about how Google Glass will be released in Canada soon, not to mention Spotify launching in Canada, so why does it not surprise us one single bit when we hear about how Steam will add support for the Canadian Dollar this coming October 7th?

Yup, true to their word, Steam will definitely go through on previous plans that will see the introduction of support for the Canadian Dollar. So far, Steam has already sent out emails to Canadian members in order to advise them that when October 7th rolls around on the calendar, their local currency will be supported.

One would think that this particular bit of news would bring about joy for those who happen to live in Canada – apparently not. Several Canadian users aren’t too happy with this development, as just like in Australia and Europe, Canada tends to slap on a “location tax”, where both games and technology fields tend to fetch prices which are higher compared to having to go through some currency conversion process.

Android L Tested On Nexus 5 (Rumor)

google nexus 5 red 011 640x359Is it true, that the yet unreleased Android L mobile operating system is currently undergoing testing over on the Nexus 5? That seems to be the case, as the Chromium issued tracker on the Chromium web site does point to Lemon Meringue Pie build LRW87D that happened to be running on the Hammerhead. Just a little bit of revision, Hammerhead proved to be Google’s code when it came to describing the Nexus 5.

Apparently, this particular version of Lemon Meringue Pie that ran happened to be rather recent. If one were to break down the LRW87D build number, where “L” is more or less a given that it stands for Lemon Meringue Pie. As for the second letter, “R”, it happens to be a code which Google uses to point to the code branch which the build hailed from. As for the “W87″ bit, it mentions that the build was made on the 87th day of the third quarter of this year, since A stands for the first quarter of 2009, which means that W ought to be the third quarter for this year. Last but not least, “D” possibly points to the fourth and final version of the operating system that was introduced on that day.

Kansas City Royals' First Playoff Win Since 1985 Proves Worth The Extra-Inning Wait

At long last, there will be October baseball in Kansas City.

With one swing of his bat, Salvador Perez gave the long-suffering Royals fans at Kauffman Stadium something they hadn’t been able to celebrate since 1985: A win in the MLB playoffs. Having waited 29 years since the team’s last postseason appearance, those fans had to wait into extra innings on Tuesday night before Perez sealed a thrilling 9-8 win over the Oakland Athletics in the American League Wild Card Game with an RBI single in the 12th inning

The walk-off hit capped a game that lived up to its “wild” billing thanks to a widely-panned strategic misstep by the Royal manager Ned Yost, a pair of home runs from A’s first baseman Brandon Moss and pair of dramatic rallies by the eventual victors. The win sends the Royals into the Division Series against the Los Angeles Angels and into October.

Samsung Switches To Microsoft Word After Two Decades

samsung wordYou know what they say – if you can’t beat ‘em, join ‘em. It has been more than 20 years of Samsung relying on its very own productivity suite for all of its offices, before the South Korean conglomerate took the decision to make the jump to Microsoft Word – and this is a move which will affect all of its offices around the world.

Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella recently dropped by in South Korea, where he did meet up with a slew of top government and corporate officials, and one of the meetings happened to be with Lee Jae-Yong, the Vice Chairman of Samsung. Now this is not confirmed, but it is widely believed that the purpose of this meeting was to increase the level of co-operation between the two companies.

After all, they are not exactly bosom buddies when it comes to the smartphone business, as Microsoft owns Nokia’s handset business. It seems that the initial rollout of Microsoft Word will be limited to Samsung Electronics, and this will gradually expand to include all subsidiaries in the course of the coming year.

Apart from that, Samsung knows that the transition period can be a challenging one, which is why they will still offer support to corporate clients who make use of JungUm (their in-house productivity software) outside of Samsung all the way to 2019. [Press Release]

NVIDIA Shield Tablet Gets Update 1.2

nvidia shield tablet 05 640x359NVIDIA has this particularly good habit (or should we say, tradition) of rolling out patches for its Shield tablet according to a timetable that more or less remains one month apart thereabouts. Having said that, we are pleased to bring you word that NVIDIA has just introduced a spanking new update to their NVIDIA Shield tablet, bumping up the update version number to 1.2 this time around.

Needless to say, update 1.2 will bring along with it a slew of enhancements to the features in the Shield Hub. Similar to Valve’s Steam, the Shield Hub happens to be a portal which will offer Shield users access to their video game libraries, as well as functioning as a method for gamers to purchase new content, ala a digital storefront.

There will also be other additions and enhancements that will be part of update 1.2, where among them include network test capability, customizable “My Android Games” and “My Media Apps,” “Share” functionality for news stories, a swipe feature and improved touch performance.

In the past, update 1 rolled out on July 28th, before it was August 28th that saw update 1.1 follow up on that act. This latest update 1.2 was released today, making its way just as the 32GB LTE model of the NVIDIA Shield tablet is launched.

Hardware Dominator’s GPU Collection Exceeds 600 Units

hardware dominator 640x640It was a love story that started more than 15 years ago. All the way back in 1997 when many of the current teens were still not in existence, a certain person by the moniker of Hardware Dominator decided to pick up an NVIDIA Riva 128 graphics card. Of course, his story with NVIDIA and the different kinds of video cards that they have rolled out over the years did not end then – it was just the beginning, and here we are with an extremely proud Hardware Dominator showcasing his GPU collection that has surpassed the 600 mark – and something tells me that there are no duplicates at all.

However, I do have a question to ask. Do all of them work? Surely these are not going to be sold as part of a pristine collection, since they happen to be laid on the ground in a manner that has been lovingly arranged so that it shows off the logo design of NVIDIA – pretty clever, don’t you think so? Not only that, how many of them are still game worthy as of today? It is surely going to cost quite a lot in the long run when it comes to stashing these puppies away, especially when you consider just how fast technology moves these days.
