Regarded as the best of the best when it comes to disc players, Oppo has two new ones that can easily handle any disc you’ve got. Physical media isn’t the only game in town, obviously, so in addition to Netflix, Vudu and local file support like MKV, Oppo has stepped it up even further by adding an HDMI port in front for use as an MHL input. This allows you to leverage the high-end Oppo’s processing to do wonders on content stored on your portable or other MHL source. Speaking of video processing, both the new guys use Marvell’s Qdeo video processor and are capable of doing both 2D-to-3D conversion as well as up-scaling to 4K. From a control perspective, a back-lit remote is included, but there’s also an IR input, RS-232 and mobile phone apps. The BDP-103 will surely satisfy any videophile at $499 this October, but if you happen to be an audiophile too, then you’d probably want to wait until the BDP-105 is released later this year. Not only does it feature two ESS Sabre32 Reference DACs and a Toroidal linear power supply, but there are also dedicated stereo outputs with both RCA and XLR balanced connections and a headphone amplifier — if you know what all that is, we’re sure you really want it.

Panasonic is back with its latest 3D home theater projector namely the PT-AE8000U. This 1080p (1,920 x 1,080 pixels) resolution projector is equipped with a new 220W Red Rich Lamp, offering a 2,400 lumens of brightness and an extremely high 500,000:1 contrast ratio. The PT-AE8000U projector’s built-in IR transmitter enables synchronization with active shutter 3D glasses and can transmit up to 20 feet. An optional IR transmitter offers greater installation flexibility with a transmission distance of up to 33 feet. Additionally, the Panasonic PT-AE8000U is equipped with three HDMI input terminals. Sony rolled out its first head-mounted 3D visor last fall, and announced the HMZ-T2 followup recently at IFA 2012. Now in Japan it has revealed few more details about the changes it’s made this time around as well as a release date and pricing. Scheduled to hit shelves on October 13th, the HMZ-T2 features all the upgrades we’d heard about: lighter total weight, redesigned head strap for improved comfort, ear buds instead of headphones plus 24p cinema support and a “Clear” panel drive mode for fast moving content. While we still don’t have a US price the Japanese damage is 70,000 yen ($894), a 10,000 yen ($127) boost over last year’s model which cost $799 in the US. Sony Japan has also put together an “Institute for Immersive Pleasure” Facebook page , and plans to show it off again at the Tokyo Game Show. If there’s been a race in the Pico-ITX realm to catch up to full-size PCs, VIA just leapt ahead by a few bounds with the EPIA-P910. The tiny PC mates one of VIA’s 1GHz QuadCore E-Series processors with a VX11H media core to handle the kinds of tasks that would break just about any other system its size: stereoscopic 3D displays and DirectX 11 3D graphics are entirely within the realm of possibility. Likewise, there’s a surprising amount of expansion headroom compared to many of the P910’s similarly small counterparts, such as the 8GB RAM ceiling and support for both HDMI 1.4a and USB 3.0. You’ll need to get in touch with VIA if you want to find out how much it costs to work the new EPIA into an embedded PC, and it’s more likely to be headed to corporate buyers than to homebrew projects. We’re still looking forward to the shot of visual adrenaline, whether it’s in a mini PC or a store display.
