HP Chromebook 11 Sales Stopped, Overheating Chargers To Blame

HP Chromebook 11 Sales Stopped, Overheating Chargers To BlameWe did report earlier on concerning the number of HP Chromebook 11 units which were yanked off the shelves of Best Buy as well as other retailers. Back then, not a single reason was given at all, but it seems that time has proven to be the great teacher yet again as we discovered that the reason these Chromebook 11s were removed from store shelves is this – overheating chargers, not something to be trifled with for sure.

This move was taken by HP and Google after they discovered that a small number of users have reported that their chargers were damaged because of overheating while still in use. It is a prudent step to take by Google, as the Internet search giant has recommended those who already own a Chromebook to stop using the charger which arrived alongside the Chromebook 11, and instead, to make use of a third party micro USB charger. Now is this a temporary turn of the proverbial tables, or what? Should you happen to be in possession of a phone or tablet charger, chances are pretty good that it will play nice with the Chromebook 11. Hopefully this particular mess will be sorted out sooner rather than later, so hold your Chromebook 11 horses in the meantime!

HP Omni 10 Carries Its Own Weight Fairly Well

HP Omni 10 Carries Its Own Weight Fairly WellHP is still in the computing game, just in case you were wondering, as they have not resigned themselves to just churning out scientific calculators. In fact, there is a new tablet from the folks over at HP, where it is known as the HP Omni 10, and it has already appeared on the Microsoft Store which presents the HP Omni 10 in all of its Windows 8.1 glory, including a list of hardware specifications. For instance, it will arrive with a Gorilla Glass 3-protected 10.1” 1080p display that will be powered by one of Intel’s most recent and advanced ultramobile SoCs, which is the Atom Z3770 that will be based on the silicon slinger’s Silvermont 22nm architecture.

The Bay Trail chipsets could very well be Intel’s own bid to pave their way into the mobile space, So far, there are preliminary tests of the tablet version of the SoC that has proven itself to be rather worthy in terms of its CPU, although its GPU performance is nothing much to shout about. The Z3770 will arrive in a quad-core configuration that has cores which run at 1.5GHz, although it can be “powered” up to 2.4GHz when required. Other hardware specifications include 2GB RAM, a microSD memory card slot for up to 32GB of storage, an 8-megapixel autofocus camera at the back and a 2-megapixel front facing shooter, a micro HDMI slot, Bluetooth 4.0 and Wi-Fi connectivity. It will retail for $399 for the 32GB model.

Two HP Slate Tablets Hit The FCC

Two HP Slate Tablets Hit The FCCThe folks over at the FCC have been on the receiving end of a couple of tablets from HP, which means we could be looking at new Slates in the coming holiday season. For starters, there is the HP Slate 10 HD tablet that will run on a Marvell PXA986 processor, where it will be accompanied by a 1,280 x 800 pixel display. Hmmm, that does not sound quite right, especially when you have the “HD” bit in its name. In other words, the HP Slate 10 HD tablet is a 10” Android-powered tablet that will target the budget conscious, while sporting some HP extras such as Beats Audio. The HP Slate 10 HD is tipped for a November rollout.

As for the other tablet, it does seem to be the HP 10 1900, and that is about all we know about it other than the fact that it supports cellular data on GSM and WCDMA networks, alongside connectivity options such as 802.11a/b/g/n Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 3.0. Other specifications that we know about the HP Slate 10 HD is that it will arrive with a microSD card slot, front and rear cameras, and Wi-Fi-only or 4G models.

We do wonder just how these tablets will shape up by the time they hit the market, as their previous round of tablet releases did not exactly light up the industry.

HP reportedly selling mobile patent portfolio

If you say the name HP, most of us automatically think about computers. HP is one of the largest computer manufacturers in the world. HP Reportedly Looking To Sell Off Some Mobile Patents

HP Reportedly Looking To Sell Off Some Mobile PatentsHP, a company known for their computers and printing solutions, have attempted to enter the mobile space in the past through smartphones and tablets, although safe to say that their efforts did not pay off. In a bid to bolster the company’s financial position, HP’s CEO, Meg Whitman, has been reported to be looking for buyers of some of its mobile-related patents. As it stands these negotiations are reportedly private which is why HP is unable to comment or confirm the reports. According to anonymous sources, the patents in question are related to WebOS which HP had bought from Palm several years ago.

It’s interesting given that WebOS was sold to LG not too long ago, but perhaps there are still some patents left that LG did not acquire. In an effort to make the patents more attractive to potential buyers, HP has also reportedly removed certain restrictive conditions that will hopefully amp up its appeal. We’re not sure if this means that HP plans to exit the mobile market since we’re guessing that they will require these patents, or at least some of it, to proceed, but according to a HP spokesman, “We don’t comment on rumor and speculation.”
