64-year Old Woman Sues NCsoft Over Destroyed Item In Lineage Worth $28,000

64 year Old Woman Sues NCsoft Over Destroyed Item In Lineage Worth $28,000In-game items for MMORPGs have gotten to the point where they cost insane amounts of money in real-life. We have heard items being auctioned off for thousands of dollars which is pretty ridiculous given that the money could be put to better use, and recently we are hearing that a 64-year old woman in South Korea has tried to sue NCsoft over a destroyed in-game item. According to the reports, the woman was playing NCsoft’s Lineage, the first version mind you, and in the game, gamers can enchant items to enhance them. However the kicker is that should you fail to enchant an item, it will end up destroying it, which is what happened when she “accidentally” attempted to enchant a rare sword worth $28,000 in real life.

The woman claims that she would never have enchanted the sword on purpose and it was done by accident while enchanting other items. NCsoft refused to restore the item, leading her to sue them. According to the logs, it shows that the woman continued enchanting other items despite failing to do so with the rare item, with the courts ruling that even if it was a mistake, NCsoft is in no way obligated to restore the item for her. Interestingly enough this is the first version of Lineage that was released in 1998 and is still being supported heavily in South Korea.

Nexon and NCsoft rumored to be interested in purchasing Valve

Some of you guys might be familiar with Korean gaming company, NCsoft, who published ArenaNet’s popular Guild Wars and Guild Wars 2 MMORPG. Well according to a Korean publication, JoongAng, it seems that NCsoft and Nexon, another Korean gaming company behind popular MMO MapleStory, are pooling their resources together in what appears to be an attempt to acquire Valve. Given Valve’s Steam platform which appears to be a pretty lucrative business, along with Valve’s own games such as Half-Life, Team Fortress and the likes, who wouldn’t want in on that action, right?

According to the report, executives from both NCsoft and Nexon have met up in Hawaii as part of an annual summit, discussing the proposal before and after the event. So far NCsoft has told Polygon that there is no truth to the rumor, while Nexon has declined to comment, but what do you guys think? Could there be any truth to this rumor and how would you feel if Valve did sell themselves off to either company?

Guild Wars 2 manages to sell over 2 million copies

It has been a little over two weeks since Guild Wars 2 was launched, and both NCsoft and ArenaNet have come forward and revealed that the game has since sold an impressive 2 million copies! This is good given the time frame, and let’s not forget that digital sales were suspended for over a week as ArenaNet worked to ensure that there was enough space on their servers so that the gameplay experience would not affect both new and existing players. Also according to NCsoft, they are boasting that there are over 400,000 players online concurrently which we have to admit isn’t too shabby!

The problem with MMOs is that despite the good intentions behind them, usually the lack of players translated into a neglected game that would eventually die out. At the same time having a large player base is also a marketing strategy that will encourage players to give it a go. If you think that World of Warcraft isn’t for you, especially with the monthly subscription fee, then perhaps Guild Wars 2’s impressive stats might be good enough for you to check the game out.
