Redbox Instant Playlist Theme On PS4 Undergoes Vote

Redbox Instant Playlist Theme On PS4 Undergoes VoteRedbox noticed that the PlayStation community proved to be one of the most engaged groups of movie fans that they have come across ever since the Redbox Instant by Verizon app was launched on both the PS3 and the PS4 sometime in late 2013. The company is all heart, and in gratitude and appreciation to the supportive PlayStation community, they hope to ensure that viewers would always receive the best possible experience with their service, in addition to knowing just what kind of movies which you would like to stream most on your PS3 or PS4. In fact, the next update to Redbox Instant by Verizon’s The Playlist collection will arrive next Tuesday, February 25, which should be a day after the Galaxy S5 from Samsung is announced at MWC 2014. But I digress – Redbox wants its viewers to be the main force behind the decision on the kind of movies that will be featured.

Sony Has Sold over 5.3M PS4 Consoles Globally, Thumbs Nose at Xbox One

To say that Sony has done well so far with the PS4 game console would be an understatement. The console has been so popular that it is still hard to find in many areas.

Sony bragged today that it has sold over 5.3 million PS4 consoles around the world as of February 8 – that’s an additional 1.1 million units in the last 40 days alone. By all accounts, the PS4 is outselling the Xbox One by nearly 50%. The estimated sales for the Xbox One were 3.6 million as of the same date. Of course, both the Xbox One and PS4 are massively outselling the Wii U from Nintendo.

Nintendo sold fewer Wii U consoles all year in 2013 than Sony and Microsoft moved in PS4s and Xbox Ones in only a couple months. I keep wondering if Nintendo is going to get with the program or just pack it in.

What makes Sony’s numbers even more impressive is that the PS4 isn’t even available in all countries yet. Japan, for instance won’t get the PS4 until February 22.

Sony PS4 Passes 5.3 Million Units Sold Globally

Sony PS4 Passes 5.3 Million Units Sold GloballyThe Sony PS4 is no slouch where a console is concerned. In fact, it has gotten off to a flying start despite receiving pretty strong competition from Microsoft’s Xbox One. We have just received word that the Sony PS4, first launched on November 15th last year, has already passed the 5.3 million units sold on February 8th, which is pretty amazing. After all, it worldwide sales of the Sony PS4 has passed the 4.2 million units at the end of last year.

PS4 has sold over 5.3 million units globally since launch

So far, the sales of the next generation game consoles have boomed. In January 2014, word circulated that Microsoft had sold 3.9 million Xbox One consoles around the world. The … Continue reading

Sony Beats Its PS4 Sales Target, With 5.3M Consoles Sold In 3-Months

    ps4

Sony’s PlayStation 4 went on sale in North America in time for the holiday season three months ago, and in Western Europe on November 29 last year — and has yet to hit shelves in the company’s home market of Japan — but sales of the gaming console are still going strong.

Sony has surpassed it own full-year target of five million units by the end of March, reporting today (via Reuters) that it had sold 5.3 million units as of February 8.

This comes days after Sony tweeted that the PS4 had been the best selling console in the U.S. in January — beating out Microsoft’s Xbox One, which launched on November 22, although Redmond claimed the top spot for number of games sold.

Microsoft also claimed the top console sales position for December, based on NPD numbers. And said a total of three million of its XbOnes (as the device is colloquially know to tech hacks) were sold in 2013 (vs 4.2 million PS4s — 2.1 million of which were sold in the first two weeks).

Judging by today’s data, Sony’s PS4 is maintaining that early lead, with one core console country left to come in its current rollout schedule.

The PlayStation 4 is due to go on sale in Japan on February 22, kicking off with a live-streamed launch event at the Sony building in Tokyo. Microsoft has yet to nail down a firm launch date for the Xbox One in Japan, beyond saying it will land there sometime in 2014.

Last month, rival Japanese gaming giant Nintendo reported a sales target miss for its controller/console combo, the Wii U – and slashed sales expectations by almost 70% — as it struggles to compete with, on the one hand, home console heavyweights like the PS4 and, at the other end of the market, smartphones being used for casual gaming.

Ground Zeroes Gets Console Comparison Screenshots

Ground Zeroes Gets Console Comparison ScreenshotsSony and Microsoft’s next-gen consoles have been released for a couple of months now, but we’re sure that there are many gamers out there who are still deciding which platform they should go for. We expect decisions will be made depending on the games that are released on either platform, but for gamers looking forward to Metal Gear Solid 5: Ground Zeroes, the game is pegged for a release in March and if you’re wondering whether you should play the game on the Xbox 360, Xbox One, PS3, or the PS4, you might be interested to learn that Konami have uploaded a series of screenshots showing how the game will look like graphically on different platforms.

It should be noted that the game will run at 720p on the PS3, Xbox 360, and the Xbox One, while on the PS4 it will run at 1080p which is obviously at a higher resolution. Konami’s blog also confirms that the frame rates gamers can expect will be 30fps at 720p for the PS3 and the Xbox 360, 720p at 60fps with the Xbox One, and 1080p at 60fps with the PS4. Naturally with newer hardware, the Xbox One and PS4 versions appear to be superior graphically compared to their predecessors, although with the PS4 at 1080p, it does have a slight edge. For casual gamers this might not necessarily be a big deal, but if you’re curious about the differences, hit up Konami’s blog for the details.

Limited Edition MGS5 PS4 Bundle Unveiled

Limited Edition MGS5 PS4 Bundle UnveiledJust the other day we reported that Hideo Kojima teased that there might be some kind of Metal Gear Solid 5 collaboration between the company and Sony’s PlayStation 4. Well sure enough it turns out that the speculators were right in that Sony would be launching a MGS5 themed PlayStation 4 console in collaboration with Kojima Productions. This announcement came about the studio’s Twitter account in which the limited edition console was revealed. According to the announcement, the limited edition PlayStation 4 would be known as the Fox Edition and would come with the Fox emblem emblazoned on the side of the console and a copy of Metal Gear Solid 5: Ground Zeroes.

According to the announcement, the bundle would be priced at 46,980 yen which when converted is roughly $462. Given that the PS4 alone costs $399, we reckon that a limited edition model along with a game for $462 doesn’t seem like too bad a deal. The bundle will also be seeing a release in Japan come 20th of March. Unfortunately there was no mention as to whether those of us living stateside would be given the pleasure of owning the bundle. Also chances are if it does arrive stateside, its price tag will probably be different as well. Then again we expect that enterprising gamers in Japan will probably buy it and resell it online for a higher price, so that’s one avenue gamers can explore if the bundle is limited to a Japan-only release.
