LG G3 Screenshot Sees More “Flat” Design (Rumor)

LG G3 Screenshot Sees More “Flat” Design (Rumor)The smartphone that was non-existent at the Mobile World Congress that was held in February earlier this year, the LG G3, has had its fair share of rumors. Among them include the possibility of a 5.5″ display and an octa-core MediaTek chipset, a “confirmed” 2650 x 1440 resolution display, an alleged photo sample, and a possible June release date, where all of these have yet to prove themselves to be true. Why not add in one more speculation into the hat after having gone through so many already? In the leaked screenshot that you see on the right, the alleged LG G3 screenshot does point to a more “flat” design where its app icons are concerned.

Future Android Builds Could Remind You Where You Parked Your Car

Future Android Builds Could Remind You Where You Parked Your CarThere are some who after parking their car, will take a photo of the place they parked, like a pillar which shows which level and which zone they are parked in. This makes it easy for them to remember where they left their car. However according to a recent APK teardown by the folks at Android Police, it seems that Google could be planning something similar with Google Now.

According to the APK teardown, they discovered several strings that are seemingly related to parking. This includes strings that mentions where your car is and where is its location. At this point in time it is unclear as to how Google might implement the feature but given that there are apps like Auto Finder and Valet that offer similar features, it could be based on an activity that has already been built into Android that Google will leverage in order to make it a native feature.

The cards on Google Now have been designed to catered to your specifications and needs, or at least what Google thinks you need. For example it will be able to pull up local weather, currency conversion, some choice translations when it detects you’re in a foreign country. It is also able to curate a handful of news articles based on what it thinks you like, so it would not be a stretch of the imagination to think that the cards could also help remind you where you parked.

The image to the right is not the actual image of the card but rather a mockup by the folks at Android Police at what they think it could look like. So far it seems entirely plausible but there’s no telling if this is a feature Google will actually include in its next Android build/update, or if they might decide to omit it, but what do you guys think? Would you like to see that feature arrive in future versions of Android?

Apple’s Recent Broadcom Hires Corroborates In-House Baseband Rumors

Apples Recent Broadcom Hires Corroborates In House Baseband RumorsAccording to earlier rumors, it has been suggested that Apple could be looking to design their own baseband chips. These chips are expected to make their way into future iPhone devices and it could be another way for Apple to control the hardware and software from start to finish. At the moment, these baseband chips are supplied by Qualcomm but made by TSMC.

To corroborate those rumors, it seems that AppleInsider has noticed that Apple has recently hired several semiconductor engineers from chipmaker, Broadcom. Both engineers have worked at Broadcom for a very long time and have experience in building RF hardware which resulted in baseband transceivers used by Nokia and Samsung.

One of the engineers, a certain Paul Chang, had worked at Broadcom for the past 11 years and it was only this February that he joined Apple as a senior program manager, and his Linkedin profile confirms it.

Another engineer, Xiping Wang, had joined Apple as an engineer back in January as per his LinkedIn profile as well. Wang had previously spent a decade as a design engineer and hardware development manager at Broadcom. These two engineers aren’t the only ones hired from Broadcom, although they are some of the more recent hires.

AppleInsider notes that over the years, Apple has added more Broadcom and Qualcomm software and hardware engineers to their list of employees. Of course it is entirely possible that these engineers could be working on something else, but given their experience and expertise, it wouldn’t be a stretch to think that their work could be related to Apple’s rumored in-house baseband chips.

4.7-inch And 5.5-inch iPhone Models Could Feature Different Resolutions [Rumor]

4.7 inch And 5.5 inch iPhone Models Could Feature Different Resolutions [Rumor]We’re sure many are wondering about Apple’s iPhone plans for the year. If the rumors are to be believed, Apple could launch two iPhones this year – one in the 4.7-inch variety and the other in a 5.5-inch variety. The rumors are also suggesting that the phones will be launched separately which is a little odd but this sentiment has been echoed by KGI Securities analyst, Ming-Chi Kuo, who has had a good track record when it comes to making Apple-related predictions.

According to Kuo, he believes that both phones will sport different resolutions. The 4.7-inch model will come with a resolution of 1334×750, while the 5.5-inch model will get a 1920×1080 Full HD display. Naturally with the higher resolution, the pixel density of the 5.5-inch model will be higher. The good news is that Apple is expected to maintain the same aspect ratio as the iPhone 5 so developers won’t have to redesign their apps again. (more…)

Touch ID Rumored To Arrive For The iPad This Year

Touch ID Rumored To Arrive For The iPad This YearRecently KGI Securities analyst, Ming-Chi Kuo, released a research note that revealed some information regarding Apple’s upcoming plans for the rest of the year. Some of those plans were shown briefly in a slide in our previous post that revealed what Kuo thought could be Apple’s roadmap for the year.

According to the roadmap, Kuo believes that Apple could be refreshing the iPad Air and iPad mini in Q3 2014, but what sort of upgrades could we be looking forward to? Well for starters we’d expect that both tablets will be getting a boost in performance, naturally, but in addition to that, Kuo reports that both the iPad Air and the iPad mini are set to get Touch ID fingerprint sensors as well.

Touch ID originally debuted with the iPhone 5s and thanks to alleged photos leaked at that time, it was rumored that Touch ID could be making its way onto the iPad as well, although that did not turn out to be true, but it is possible that Apple wasn’t ready yet at that time. Kuo also states that he believes the A8 processor will also debut in both tablets and that the iPad Air 2 could include an upgraded 8MP rear-facing camera as well.

Kuo also touched briefly on the rumored iPad Pro which will allegedly come with a 12.9-inch display. The rumored device was left out of Kuo’s roadmap because he expects that the tablet will only debut in 2015 and that Apple is currently working on a new interface that has been designed for the larger tablet.

Once again we have to state that these are an analyst’s opinion and they are not necessarily facts, but given Kuo’s track record, which has been pretty spot-on, perhaps some of it might prove to be true after all.

High-End iWatch Could Cost Several Thousand Dollars [Rumor]

High End iWatch Could Cost Several Thousand Dollars [Rumor]In an earlier Apple roadmap as prepared by KGI Securities analyst, Ming-Chi Kuo, it was suggested that Apple could be launching the much-rumored iWatch in a couple of different sizes. One of the sizes is rumored to be of the 1.3-inch variety, and the other will be ever-so-slightly larger at 1.5-inches.

According to Kuo, the features of the iWatch are more or less the same as what we have been hearing so far, which is that they will be health-related through iOS-exclusive health monitoring apps. He also states that the devices will utilize a sapphire cover and flexible AMOLED display panels which seems to be in line with the rumors we have been hearing about.

Kuo also believes that design will play a big part in differentiating the iWatch from the competition. As we have seen in the past, smartwatches typically feature pretty “boring” square-ish designs, save for the Moto 360 which was a real treat for the eyes. Apple could also be going that route and utilize a variety of different materials for its casing and the watch band.

In fact, and this sounds very unlikely, Kuo states that there could even be a premium model that will fetch as much as several thousand dollars which is the price one can expect from a luxury brand mechanical watch.

When the Samsung Galaxy Gear was first launched, the price of the device was something that many criticized Samsung for, so we can only imagine how customers will react to a smartwatch that costs thousands of dollars, especially in an industry that continuously seems upgrades and improvements made every couple of months.

Take it with a grain of salt for now but what do you guys think of Kuo’s predictions? Believable?

Alleged Nikon 1 J4 Photo And Specs Leaked

Alleged Nikon 1 J4 Photo And Specs LeakedBack in March, Nikon announced their latest mirrorless camera in the form of the Nikon 1 V3. However it seems that the Nikon 1 V3 is not the only mirrorless camera Nikon has up their sleeves. This is thanks to recent rumors and now a recent photo leak of the upcoming Nikon 1 J4 that is rumored to debut next week.

Naturally Nikon has not confirmed any of this so take it with a grain of salt for now, although given that Nikon’s mirrorless cameras do come in the V and J variety, we guess an update to its J-lineup is expected. (more…)

iWatch Circuit Board Samples Reportedly Being Sent To Apple [Rumor]

iWatch Circuit Board Samples Reportedly Being Sent To Apple [Rumor]According to a report from yesterday, it was rumored that Apple could finally be taking the wraps off its rumored iWatch later this year, Q3 2014 to be exact. Now thanks to a new rumor from DigiTimes, that timeframe has been somewhat corroborated as they are reporting that there are at least three different firms who will be supplying Apple with samples of flexible circuit boards that could be used in the iWatch.

The companies that are allegedly involved are Flexium Interconnect, Career Technology, and Zhen Ding Technology Holding. The latter is actually a familiar name as they currently supply other components to Apple, so perhaps there might be some truth to DigiTimes’ claims after all. Then again the publication has had some pretty spotty history when it comes to Apple rumors, so do take it with a grain of salt for now.

We’ve not even come to the middle of the year and we’ve already seen smartwatch efforts from a bunch of different companies, like LG, Samsung, and Motorola. While Google has yet to make their own hardware, they did reveal Android Wear which is a version of Android designed for wearable devices.

A release of Apple’s rumored iWatch later this year does make sense especially if they hope to compete with the rest of the competition. Any later and Apple would essentially have to play catch up instead of being considered one of the pioneers. Hopefully we will learn more about the rumored iWatch soon so stay tuned for more updates.

Grand Theft Auto V On PC, Xbox One And PS4 This June (Rumor)

Grand Theft Auto V On PC, Xbox One And PS4 This June (Rumor)Grand Theft Auto 5V has been a success by any measure, considering how this expensively assembled game has already shipped more than 32 million copies as of February this year ever since it rolled out in 2013. The thing is, this particular title did not make an appearance on the PC as well as the next generation consoles – the Xbox One from Microsoft and the Sony PS4. It does look like this situation is about to change, however, as TECH-NICK, who happens to be a manager of German retailer Saturn.de, did mention in a tweet that the release of Grand Theft Auto V for the PC, Xbox One and PS4 platforms are expected to arrive this coming June.

I am sure that those who already use the PC, Xbox One and Sony PS4 as their primary gaming platforms of choice would be more than pleased to hear this, and TECH-NICK did clarify later on in a different tweet that the release information happens to be a rumor, and nothing has been confirmed just yet. Hopefully the showfloor over at E3 will be able to shed more light on the situation as it kicks off later this June. I suppose there is nothing else for us to do other than to take this rumor with a grain of salt and play the waiting game.

Next Vivo Smartphone Could Get “True Tone” Dual LED Flash

Next Vivo Smartphone Could Get “True Tone” Dual LED FlashVivo did tease the masses concerning their upcoming smartphone a week ago, and it seems that more details on said device have surfaced. Apparently, China-based Vivo has shared more information concerning the camera via its official Weibo (Weibo happens to be the Twitter equivalent in China) page, touting that the main camera behind the next generation flagship smartphone will boast of a two-tone, dual-LED flash that has been given the nickname “True Tone”.

This particular setup will be the same as the one found in the Apple iPhone 5s, not to mention the recently released HTC One (M8). Just what does a “True Tone” flash offer? For starters, it will merge LED lights in white and yellow so that your captured photos would end up with a better color balance across the board.

There is no official name attached to the successor of the Vivo Xplay 3S, although we do know that it will be the first device of an X-Series range of handsets, sporting extensive multimedia capabilities that are predicted thanks to the highly possible inclusion of a Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 SoC, 3GB RAM, and 32GB of internal memory. How much are you willing to fork out for this next generation flagship device from Vivo when it becomes available?
