Withings Smart Kid Scale Can Tweet Your Baby’s Weight

Withings has been selling digital fitness devices and a scale for adults that can track your weight or even share it via social networks if you want it to. The idea is that the scale can help motivate you to reach your goals and share your progress with friends.

The company has announced a new version of its connected scale specifically made for babies and toddlers called the Withings Smart Kid Scale.

The scale is designed for children from birth to age eight and has a weight range of 0 to 55 pounds. The accuracy of the scale is within 10 g. What makes it high tech is the integrated Wi-Fi and Bluetooth allowing it to interface with an app that runs on your iOS or Android smartphone.

The scale also comes with a folding baby trough that allows you to use the scale with newborn babies. Any parent knows that once you have a baby, keeping track of how well that baby is growing becomes a bit of an obsession. This tech makes it easy and allows you to share with equally obsessed grandparents and other relatives.

The Withings Smart Kid Scale is available right now for $179.95(USD). Baby not included.

Withings Shows Off Its New Smart Scale And Smart Activity Tracker At CES [Video]

WSAT_02

Withings was one of a pretty busy section of the CES 2013 show floor demoing health, fitness and lifestyle monitoring apps, and it had a couple of new things to add to its line of Wi-Fi scales and monitoring devices. One was the new Withings Smart Body Analyzer, which is a version of its Wi-Fi scale that, for the first time, measures heart rate. The other was the Smart Activity Tracker, a FitBit-style device for keeping track of your activity.

The Withings Smart Body Analyzer will be hitting stores in Q1 2013 and retails for $149.95. It does weight and body fat readings like the existing versions and beams all that info either over Wi-Fi or Bluetooth to its companion app for iOS or Android. The scale can also detect air quality and is intended to be used in a bedroom so that you can check its readings to figure out when you need to open a window to increase air flow.

The Withings Smart Activity Tracker is like the Jawbone Up, FitBit One, etc. It’s tiny, and it’s hard to convey just how small in words, but you can check it out in the video for a better idea. Besides being incredibly small, which is a big advantage for a device you have to wear constantly, it also connects to your iOS and Android devices via Bluetooth, has an on-device display, and can send you alerts.

This Scale Measures the Carbon Dioxide Levels In Your Room and Your Pulse

Though it seems iterative, Withings new Smart Body Analyzer WS-50 adds additional features like heart rate and air quality monitoring. Your weight, body fat and pulse are then transmitted over Wi-Fi/Bluetooth to the Withings Health Mate app (iOS, Android). More »

Wahoo Fitness launches a Bluetooth smart scale for $99

With its new Balance Smartphone Scale, Wahoo Fitness clearly has designs on Withings‘ corner of the fitness gadget market. There’s no phone dongles or shoe clips here — simply step on the scale and your weight will be recorded and synced to the companion iOS app. The Balance can record up to 130 weigh-ins before needing to push the information to your iPhone or iPad via Bluetooth, which you can then share with the usual cloud services (should you need further reason to feel ashamed). The scale can manage the profiles of up to 16 different users and keep tabs on everyone’s weight and BMI goals. Unlike its competition, there’s no WiFi option, which means you can’t sync your shame directly to the web. But, having to take the intermediary step of pulling out your phone presumably has helped the company shave the price down to $99. Kitchen Scale Doubles as a Media Player: Watch Videos While You Cook

Say you want to watch a TV program or a video of a recipe while you cook? While you could always bring your smartphone or tablet into the kitchen, there’s always a chance you’ll get it wet or get food stuck on or inside of it. Here’s another way to watch video content while you’re in the kitchen, without fear of damaging your precious gadgets.

kitchen scale video player

This unique scale not only can weigh your food, but it’s got a 4.3″ (480×272) LCD screen and a media player built into its surface. It’s also got a speaker for the audio portion. The scale can play back media in .AVI, MPEG 1/2/4, or DiVX formats or stills in .JPG format. All you need to do is load your files onto a MicroSD card and insert it into the scale, and you’ll be all set.

kitchen scale media player

The scale itself isn’t waterproof, but most digital kitchen scales shouldn’t be submerged anyhow. Its also got a built-in rechargeable battery and can be juiced up via its Mini USB port. A 2 to 3 hour charge should give you about 2 hours of video playback – plenty for most meals I’ve ever cooked.

Too bad I can’t have one of these on hand in time to cook for Thanksgiving this week, but I doubt I could get it shipped all the way from Japan or China by then.

Withings WS-30 Wireless Scale Slims Down

I’ve known for the last couple of years that my home scale is a bit off, so I wonder if an expensive digital scale will do better. The idea of a smartphone-connected scale isn’t something new, but Withings new scale looks pretty spiffy and it’s supported by plenty of apps to help you keep track of your weight.

Withings Wireless Scale WS-30 arrives Stateside

We did take a look at the Withings wireless scale in the past, and needless to say, living a wireless lifestyle is always worth looking into. After all, don’t you think that there are more than enough wires and cables going through your home at the moment? Not only that, most of these cables tend to have a life of their own, ending up in a tangled mess at the end of the day when you leave them alone long enough. With the Withings Wireless Scale WS-30, it is now available in the US, where it is connected to the Internet thanks to WiFi connectivity.

Just how does the WS-30 scale work? It will merge Bluetooth Smart technology and WiFi connectivity, delivering a seamless and computer-free experience straight from the install stage, all the way to everyday use. It is so simple, that even you might find it difficult to believe. Coupled with the most recent Withings technology, users will be able to enjoy an ultra-intuitive experience, where among them include Withings Position Control technology that delivers on-screen visuals so as to properly position a user’s body on the scale – resulting in high-accuracy weighing.

Once you step on the scale, the Wireless Scale will take note of your weight and body mass index (BMI), showing it off on a large backlit display. Once a weigh in is complete, the scale will rely on its built-in connectivity, automatically transmitting the data to the user’s Withings Health Companion App and personal Withings webpage. Not only that, as a user, you are able to decide just where else you would want such information to be sent to – including your physician, Twitter feed, and over 60 Withings compatible applications such as Lose It!, Runkeeper, MyFirnessPal, Daily Burn, Zeo, and Body Media.

The Wireless Scale WS-30 would set you back by $129.95 a pop.
