zoom_Q3HD.jpgIf you’ve ever tried to record video at a concert, you may good good footage, but still end up bad sound. Pocket cams like the Flip have some competition on the way with the announcement of the Samson Zoom Q3HD Handy Video Recorder. Zoom, a company known for its award-winning stereo recorders, boasts that this is the only handheld camera to record both HD video and HD audio.

The camera records 24-bit/96Hz audio, and video at 1080p at 30 frames per second, or 720p at 30 or 60 fps. It has a 4x digital zoom, and three lighting settings — including a “Concert Lighting” setting, which, according to a press release, “…allows the camera to capture clear, detailed videos even in light intensive environments that would cause most camcorders to wash out.”

You can turn the camcorder on its side to watch videos in 16:9 format. It comes with a 2GB SD card that provides up to 45 minutes of HD video. It accepts up to a 32GB SDHC card for up to 7 hours of HD video. It also comes with software and two AA batteries.

The Zoom Q3HD will be available this Fall.

Pioneer Introduces New DJ and Producer Quality Speakers

Pioneer - S-DJ08 Speakers
Pioneer has long been a friend of DJs, producers, and audiophiles alike, turning out lines of audio products that can make club DJs and at-home listeners equally happy with the audio quality they get for the money. If you have the money to spare, the new Pioneer S-DJ05 and S-DJ08 speaker systems can put out impressive sound. Both series will be available in January 2011, but you can reserve a pair of the S-DJ05 speakers for $899 or the D-DJ08 speakers for $1199.

The DJ05 5-inch speakers and DJ08 8-inch speakers are both active reference speakers and are aimed at DJs and music producers looking for sound worthy of a music studio. Both models allow you to control speaker settings from a single external controller that’s included with the package, and have a built-in linear equalizer that you can manage from that controller.

The new speakers also allow you to easily switch among the four built-in audio terminals so you can quickly toggle between computers and your DJ equipment, or additional mixers and amps connected to them without the need for a sub-mixer. The speakers even feature a built-in LED display that will show you the active source and the EQ status.

Motorolas S10-HD Bluetooth Headset Looks Sleek

Motorola S10-HD Bluetooth HeadsetIf you tend to travel with your phone or Bluetooth-enabled music player and spend much more time listening to music than you do placing or receiving calls, Motorola’s new S10-HD Bluetooth headset may be ideal for you.

The headset is lightweight, wraps around the back of your head, and has a pair of cushioned earbuds that fit into each ear. The S10-HD is designed to function more like a pair of headphones than a headset, but there is a microphone in the unit, and if you have it paired with your phone, incoming calls will automatically pause playback while you’re speaking and start playing the music again when the call is over.

The Bluetooth antenna, receiver, and controls are located in the back of the headset, which keeps the weight in the back and improves antenna performance outdoors. Even so, the S10-HD is still Bluetooth audio, which is notorious for suffering from compression issues. Headsets like the S10-HD are generally designed for people who have to have wireless audio or who want to take their music with them on the go without wires. It will be available late October at Best Buy retail stores and online retailers for $79.99 list.

Sennheiser Releases Headset Version of Six Portable Headphones

hd_238i.jpgMore and more, it’s an iPhone world. Witness the six headsets just released by Sennheiser, all of which are designed for the iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, and other Apple portables. All six are based on Sennheiser’s Portable Entertainment series. Their microphones and remotes are integrated into their cables and allow the phone to be controlled either by buttons or voice commands.

The surprisingly small IE 8i ($599.95) headset features lifelike sound and offers individual bass adjustment for differing tastes. The MM70i ($129.95) offers an eye-catching design, clear stereo sound, and rich bass. The pocket-size PX 100-IIi and PX 200-IIi ($119.95; $139.95) make a big sound, yet can be folded into pocket-size packages. Finally, the HD 218i and HD 238i ($99.95; $169.95, shown here) are on-the-ear headsets with a sleek design.

Scosche MotorMouth II brings handsfree calling to any aux input-equipped vehicle

Nah, it’s not the second coming of the Jupiter Jack. In fact, it’s not a lackluster FM transmitter at all. Instead of pumping yet another one of those, Scosche has decided to take the high road here with the MotorMouth II, a Bluetooth streaming device that’s designed for use in any vehicle with a 3.5mm auxiliary input. The idea here is to pair your Bluetooth handset with the adapter, then plug the adapter into your head unit; once you start a handsfree conversation on your mobile, the caller’s voice can be heard loud and clear over your car’s stereo. Of course, you may want to avoid this critter if you’re planning on taking to your part-time lover while your full-time partner in life is riding shotgun, but for the faithful ones out there, it’s available now for $79.99.

Sonos controller goes live for iPad (update: Spotify too)

It’s been a long three months, but the Sonos app for iPad is finally here, joining your iPhone in a quest to easily serve up music to every one of your fancy mesh-networked rooms. It’s a free 7MB download, so if you’ve obtained the requisite technology, what have you got to lose? And hey, once you get used to the extra real estate, the company has a nice resting place for your iPhone, too. PR after the break, iTunes link immediately below.

Update: Europeans are also getting treated to Spotify access today with the release of the Sonos 3.3 software update. The Sonos Controller for the iPhone / iPod touch still hasn’t been updated but it has to come soon — those Spotify tracks won’t change themselves.

H20 Audio Intros Surge 2G Headphones

Surge2G.jpg

H20 Audio just debuted a waterproof case for the new Nano and Shuffle, and now it’s showing off new headphones, too. The Surge 2G is the next generation of the company’s most popular headphones. They’re waterproof and sweatproof, so you can use them for swimming laps or running track. According to the company, product spokesperson Michael Phelps wears them in and out of the pool, and that’s good enough for me.

The Surge 2G offers a new design and audio experience that provides strong sound in a sleek, aerodynamic profile. The new shape improves fit and reduces drag. They come with a lifetime warranty and sell for a reasonable $49.99.

Every TV Should Sound This Great [Oped]

TVs all look decent enough these days. In fact, picture quality is such an easy target that manufacturers have moved on to compete with widgets and 3D. Screw that. I’d like to remind everyone that TVs need better sound. More »

Franklin Roadie modular music system needs a table to boom

We’ve seen speaker systems that use flat surfaces as a diaphragm before, but Franklin’s Roadie might be the first modular to splash down in the new millennium. It’s a three part system (if you want it to be), consisting of the EVS-2000, EVS-3000 and EVS-4000. In order of mention, you’ve got a base model that accepts sources via a 3.5mm input jack, a rechargeable battery with SD card slot, and a bonus tweeter / equalizer. It ain’t much good in your hand, but slap it on a table (or any other flat surface, like a floor) and the tunes start to boom. Or become marginally more audible, anyway. The trio should go on sale soon for $99.99 as a bundle, while the 2000 and 3000 can be picked up by themselves for $49.99 / $79.99, respectively.

Motorola’s wraparound S10-HD Bluetooth headphones: for the Usain Bolt in all of us

Clearly, introducing one Bluetooth headset in a single day just isn’t enough for Motorola. In addition to the Oasis, the outfit has also let loose the new S10-HD, a wraparound set that is marketed as Bluetooth headphones rather than a BT headset (though it’s fully capable of acting as either / both). As expected, these guys are designed to withstand all sorts of sweat beads, enabling fitness junkies to keep on rockin’ in the free world regardless of how steamy the conditions may be. We’re also told that the speakers are recessed in their housing with a new ear cushion interface and hydrophobic acoustic mesh (fancy!), and silicon seals are in place around all of the electrical components. Should you receive a call while streaming tunes, it’ll gently pause the music until your call is done, and afterwards it’ll resume automatically. The S9-HD‘s proper successor will be landing in Best Buy locations starting October 24th for $79.99.
