iPhone 4S gets official date and blessing by C-Spire, all yours on November 11th

Oh, heck yeah. We’ve already been delighted by the news that C-Spire (the hip carrier formerly known as Cellular South) is the lucky recipient of the iPhone 4S, but we now have a date — and it’s coming up pretty fast. Both the 4S and the 4 will be ready for your purchase on November 11th, unsurprisingly for the same exact cost as the big three national carriers: $99 for the 8GB iPhone 4 and $199-399 for the iPhone 4S, but the deal’s sweetened by the offering of unlimited data (though the two lowest plans exclude streaming). If you’re down with that, it’s a good idea to head over to the site and get pre-registered as soon as possible. Now that the little guys officially have the iconic device, who’s next? Full press release after the break.

Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus ready for your pre-orders, sticky with Honeycomb (Update: 404’d)

Having passed the FCC’s critical eye, and hot on the heels of Samsung’s now official love-in with Google, the Korean manufacturer’s pint-sized tablet refresh is now up for pre-ordering. Priced at $399 for the 16GB model (or $499 for 32GB), Amazon remains tight-lipped on release date info, but is more than happy to tell us what we’ll get for that wad of notes. That includes Android Honeycomb 3.2, and a dual-core 1.2GHz processor — a substantial jump up from the single 1GHz processor we had with the original Galaxy Tab. If Samsung can promise a swift Ice Cream Sandwich upgrade, we could well be sold.

Update: It appears the Amazon links are pointing to a 404 error now. We’ll keep an eye on them!

Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus up for pre-order: $399 16GB, $499 32GB

Korea’s finest have been very coy on the dual-core and Honeycomb update to the Galaxy Tab 7, the 7 Plus. We knew that Austria and Indonesia would get it by the end of October but didn’t know when it was likely to land in the States, or how much it would cost when it got here. Fortunately, it has now been spotted at J&R.com, where you will be happy to know that the 16GB version will cost $400, while the 32GB costs a bit more at $500. Now they just need to tell us when the thing will actually arrive.

iPhone 4S pre-orders are in the mail

iPhone 4S shipment notification

If you were one of the impatient million who jumped to pre-order an iPhone 4S, well, chances are your fancy new handset is already in the mail. A number of tipsters have reached out to us to share their shipment notification emails that just came in from Apple. All the packages we’ve seen are scheduled for delivery on October 14th, but we wouldn’t be shocked if a few of those landed in customers hands a bit early. If you haven’t already handed over your billing info, you’ll be waiting at least a week or two longer. But, if you weren’t camped out at your computer waiting for the 3am sale to begin, we’re gonna assume you’re not terribly concerned.

Amazon brings Kindle and associated ebook shop to France

French Kindle

France is getting the Kindle! No, seriously, until now the land of baguettes and Nicolas Sarkozy has had to make do without the world’s most popular ebook reader. Starting today though, our French friends can pre-order a Kindle (no touch and no keyboard) for €99 and have access to over 825,000 titles from the newly launched Kindle store. The first French-language readers from Amazon will start shipping out on October 14th and, if you need some more details, you’ll find the full PR after the break.

iPhone 4S preorders open up at 3AM ET — are you ready? (Update: They’re live!)

It’s been a tumultuous week for Apple followers, but the earliest opportunity to snag the company’s new slab opens up in just a few hours. Without an extended review, we’ve done what we can by asking Siri to understand our most random queries, breaking down the costs / benefits, and even leaving it up to the masses. Decision time is upon us, so if you’ve just got to be first to order an iPhone 4S then either make it a late night or set an early alarm for 3AM ET — we’ll do you one more solid by linking up the US and Canadian carrier pages below (other international providers have only listed notification sign ups so far, but don’t worry, we’ve got them here too.)

Update: And they’re off! As of a few minutes after 3, all the US carrier’s sites are taking preorders as well as Vodafone in the UK, although word is AT&T and Sprint’s servers are overloaded so be patient. The Apple store went down for updates around midnight (ET) and is still down, but we’ll update again once it’s open for business.

Update 2: At 3:43AM, Apple.com is finally back up although you’ll still need some luck getting through at this point.

AT&T goes meta: your iPhone 4S upgrade is just an app away (update)

If you’re all hot and bothered by today’s announcement from Apple, there’ll be a new way for AT&T customers to snatch up the iPhone 4S. Later this evening, Ma Bell expects to introduce a gem into the App Store that lets users check their upgrade eligibility, and beginning Friday, October 7th, customers will be able to pre-order the A5-wielding beauty from the comfort of their current iPhone. Of course, we’ll be sure to provide an update as the final details become available. Who’d have thought your current handset would play such an active role in its own demise?

Update: As expected, AT&T’s Upgrader app is now live in the App Store. Just take a peek at the source link to get your download on.

Update 2: Apple giveth, and Apple taketh away — in other words, the download has been pulled. Better luck next time? In the meantime, all AT&T customers may check their upgrade eligibility at the carrier’s website.

LG Optimus LTE now official: High-speed data alongside a high-definition IPS display

It may not be the biggest phone reveal coming in the next 24 hours, but leaked details had already piqued our interest in LG’s next big thing. The Optimus LTE’s screen rivals Apple’s Retina Display at 326ppi and that high-definition sharpness is slathered on a 4.5-inch AH-IPS display. The sizable 1830mAh battery should be enough to keep the phone ticking over despite these high-end specs, which include a confirmed 1.5GHz dual-core CPU and eight megapixel camera. Will we get to see it on these shores? We’re not sure of its travel itinerary after it reaches Korea, but we’d love to see this and Samsung’s latest LTE wares tussle for our affections.

Kindle Fire pre-orders heat up, reportedly reach 95,000

The Kindle Fire won’t be out til November, but it’s already giving off some strong pre-order smoke signals. According to digital marketing firm eDataSource, Amazon’s first tablet has generated enough buzz to pick up just under 100,000 orders — an estimate based on a sample of 800,000 e-mail users. Even with these rosy estimates, however, Amazon still has a long way to go before it catches up with Apple, which sold 300,000 iPads on its debut. But we’re guessing that the Fire’s $199 price tag probably won’t hurt its chances.

Plantronics intros Marque M155, its lightest Bluetooth headset for smartphone users

Along with providing hands-free convenience for mobile users on-the-go, Bluetooth headsets serve a fine purpose for crazies, giving them something to point to when they’re rambling incoherently to themselves. Now, the latest offering from Plantronics brings greater comfort and style to both types of users. The Marque M155 heralds the company’s smallest and lightest headset to date, which weighs in at just 7 grams — approximately the weight of a ballpoint pen. Designed specifically for Android and iOS phones (though widely compatible with more), the M155 offers voice-guided pairing assistance, customized apps and the ability to answer or ignore calls with verbal commands. What’s more, all purchasers will receive a one-year subscription to the company’s Vocalyst service, which offers the ability to send email, update Twitter, check the weather, listen to news feeds and more — all hands free. Available in jet black or arctic white, the Marque M155 will retail for approximately $60 and is available for pre-order beginning today.
