MadCatz proves its soul still burns with Soul Calibur V Arcade FightStick Soul Edition

If you’re a fan of arcade-style fighting games, you’re surely hip to MadCatz’s FightStick Tournament Edition for PS3 and Xbox 360. As it’s done with Street Fighter in the past, the company is back with another variation of the arcade stick, this time officially themed for the upcoming Soul Calibur V. Launching near the game in January 2012, the Soul Calibur V Arcade FightStick Soul Edition features the usual masher-friendly eight button with joystick layout, but sports a casing endowed with visuals inspired by the game — and an extremely unfortunate mix of hues. The crazy Cat hasn’t announced a price yet, but considering these have gone for about $150 in the past, we’d imagine this one won’t be too far off. Full details in the press release after the break.

Playstation 3D Display hits shelves November 13, Sony answers your burning questions

We’d imagine come November 13th, the above will be the scene inside many a PS3 owner’s house. That’s when Sony’s hot little 24-inch PlayStation 3D display will officially be available in the US, Canada, Europe and parts of Asia. Sony took to its US PlayStation Blog today with the news, along with a lengthy FAQ to keep your GAS at bay in the meantime. If you’ll recall, the 240Hz 1080p display packs a single set of component inputs, two HDMI 1.4 ports, stereo RCA outputs, a headphone jack, an integrated subwoofer, and of course, 3D-capability with supported titles. For five hundred bucks you’ll get the PS 3D Display, one pair of USB-rechargeable 3D Glasses ($70 for each additional pair), a copy of Motorstorm: Apocalypse and even an HDMI cable. Notably, its fancy (and exclusive) SimulView feature will let two sets of 3D shades grab either the left or right side feed in supported 3D games for a private 2D view. Disappointingly, this puppy isn’t wall-mountable, but hey, that 24-inch panel surely makes it ideal for a desktop setup, no? Hori Tactical Assault Commander 3 PS3 keyboard and mouse: for fans of butch peripherals

Peripheral makers often give their devices preposterous names — remember when you asked your grandparents for that Thrustmaster? Hori has outdone itself with the Tactical Assault Commander 3, which won’t allow you to command any sort of tactical assault outside of your PS3. Admittedly, when you settle down in front of the TV, you’ll see it’s got some pretty useful features. There’s adjustable mouse sensitivity and a re-mappable keyboard that remembers your settings after the PS3 powers down. You also get a dedicated walk button to slow your movement, like the gentle tilt of an analog stick. It’s available starting October 24th in black or the Best Buy exclusive digital camouflage edition you see above — but it’ll cost you the same $100 whatever style you go for.

New PS3 and PS Move bundles leaked by box manufacturer, Black Friday deal evidently in tow (update)

There may be a healthy selection of new PlayStation kits coming your way in the near future. Images of unannounced bundle boxes have surfaced over at Slickdeals, courtesy of Scream777, who claims to work at a package production facility that makes ’em. Those include a previously unknown Mayhem Edition PS Move kit with a Sharpshooter peripheral and the newest Resistance and Killzone titles, while a Complete Entertainment Bundle packs a 160GB PS3 Slim with a free month of PlayStation Plus and the latest Little Big Planet and Ratchet and Clank. Gaming blog Gimme Gimme Games claims that the CEB will be $250, with Scream777 noting that its order invoice lists it as a Black Friday special. Adding credence to the leak, said poster also threw in box shots of the 320GB Uncharted 3 bundle and Goldeneye 007: Reloaded Sharpshooter set — both of which are currently available for pre-order. Here’s to hoping it all proves true, but in the meantime, you’ll find more details in the links below.

Update: We’ve received a few comments noting the typo of “stereoscopic” on the box. While all of the pictures in the source do seem like they could be valid (as we mentioned, the latter two can currently be pre-ordered), it’s certainly worth raising an eyebrow to.

Sony PS3 Wireless Stereo Headset review

Oh hey, Sony, how nice of you to join the party! The console gaming headset party, that is (no, Bluetooth earpieces don’t count). Over a year ago the company had us yearning for a PS3-oriented headset after letting loose its duo of Ultimate Weapons headgear for PC gamers. Then in May, a glimmer of hope shone upon us when its PS3 Wireless Stereo Headset was announced for the DualShock-wielding gamers — and priced at a modest $100.

There’s no doubt that this playing field’s been blanketed with a saturation of wallet-tempting selections (we’re looking at you MadCatz, Turtle Beach and Astro), but Sony’s official kit has a few tricks up its sleeve for a potential home run. Despite the moniker, it’s capable of virtual 7.1 surround sound and displays onscreen status reports exclusively when used with a PS3. Comcast promises Xfinity VOD streaming on more devices, new Xcalibur guide in 2012

Don’t expect Comcast to stop its Xfinity VOD streaming to the living room rollout with just the Xbox 360 this Christmas, as executive Sam Schwartz promised during a CTAM panel that it plans to develop apps for the PS3, Wii, Roku and other connected TV platforms. Multichannel News reports it doesn’t plan to roll out streaming to as many platforms as Netflix, so we’ll have to wait and see where this initial venture into IPTV stops. Think big cable is scared of over the top services? Maybe not yet, since Comcast claims Netflix subscribers tend to be the most voracious users of its VOD. Also in Comcast’s future is its completely revamped Xcalibur guide software with internet and social media tie-ins (check out our early sneak peek here), which Schwartz reiterated would be available nationwide at some point next year.

Last week we asked “When was the last time that you used a floppy disk.” Apparently, the floppy disk is becoming a thing of the past! For 53% of you, it’s been a thing of the past for at least five years! In second place with 22% of the votes was the response, “it’s been a few years,” and third place was “during the last year” with 8 percent of the votes.

Next up, we want to know what game system do you play the most, or wish you owned.  I’m sure some of you own multiple systems, but tell us which one is played the most.  If you don’t own one, but you have one on your wish list, which one is it?

Once you’ve cleared the $25k or so in your budget that it will take to snag one of Sony’s 4K VPL-VW1000ES your next problem will be finding some 4096×2160 res content to view on it. While showing off the new beamer for its Japanese audience at CEATEC today, Sony announced the PS3 will get a firmware update around the beginning of 2012 that will allow it to natively output 4K stills. There’s a PlayView “visual magazine” already available on the PlayStation store in Japan that supports 4K and 3D, but this update will bring super high res viewing of your vacation pics, or any other high res image files you can snag, to the living room. While your friends will no doubt be impressed by the museum-quality art gala you’re now capable of hosting, we’re starting the timer for 4K video sources — if we don’t hear anything concrete at CES then we’ll be incredibly disappointed.

Just two months to go, and gamers of the Sony persuasion can get their thumbs-on the PS Vita. While we were getting comfy with the available list of this PSP successor’s dos and don’ts, out comes further info to rain on our anticipated PlayStation Suite parade. According to a report from ASCII, game downloads over 3G connections will be limited to a max of 20MB. What does that mean for you, prospective buyer? Well, kiss that 500 – 600 strong library of PSP titles goodbye, and say hello to a catalog of minis. Sure, you could always hook up to some decent WiFi to purchase and play those old favorites uninterrupted, but that kind of defeats this portable’s on-the-go design. Rest assured, this download cap could still change before the handheld launches in the US and UK. And anyway, you didn’t think you were going to get far on that three to five hour charge, now did you?

You may never get the chance to join Ferrari’s Formula 1 team, but indulging your imagination is about to get a lot easier, now that Thrustmaster has unveiled its new Ferrari F1 Wheel Add-On — a life-sized replica of the wheel you’d find within the 150° Italia. Announced yesterday, this rubber-textured wheel features a full slate of professional-grade rotary knobs, switches and action buttons — including two rotary encoder switches, eight push-buttons and a set of “push and pull” sequential shifters that, true to form, are attached directly to the wheel face. Designed to seamlessly attach to your T500 RS, the accessory will be available in two models: a PC- and PS3-compatible mode, with 13 action buttons and three D-Pads, or an advanced PC-compatible mode, with 25 action buttons and one D-Pad.
