Originally scheduled to ship on September 19th, this external CableCARD TV tuner is now available from Amazon, New Egg and other retailers for $300. While it has yet to show up stateside as promised, that hasn’t stopped BYD from beginning consumer sales of its EV back home in China. Shenzhen citizens are finally getting a crack at owning an e6 after seeing it on the city’s streets in taxi and governmental garb for over a year. On sale for 369,800 RMB (or about $57,000), buyers will only have to part with 249,800 RMB (or about $38,000) come check writing time, thanks to extensive rebates from the government. In exchange for all that cash, you’ll get an auto equipped with BYD’s “i” system, which lets you access vehicle functions and info (like keyless entry and the car’s location) from your smartphone. BYD-i comes onboard a five-seat crossover with a range of up to 190 miles (!) that supports rapid charging — apparently there’s plenty of the speedy power stations in Shenzhen. Those keen to charge at home will also get some installation “assistance” from the automaker, which we’ll assume means a subsidy. Given that BYD’s electric buses will hit our shores soon, China’s first “domestic, long-range, all-electric” crossover can’t be that far behind, right? PR awaits you, after the break.

Case in point: the guy on the right. Sure, he’s probably a mild-mannered, law-abiding citizen, but with NEC‘s Tele Scouter strapped to his spectacles, he looks just a wee bit sinister, doesn’t he? The system he’s wearing consists of a paperback-sized computer powered by an ARM 500MHz CPU and an AirScouter display mounted atop a pair of glasses. The display, manufactured by Brother, projects images upon the naked eye, but NEC insists that it won’t completely block a user’s field of vision. To the viewer, in fact, these projections appear as if they were displayed on a 16-inch, 800 x 600 screen standing one meter away. According to NEC, the idea is to allow employees to view manuals or other important documents while working with their hands, though that kind of multi-task wizardry certainly won’t come for cheap. The Tele Scouter will begin shipping on December 26th, with the device priced at ¥400,000 (about $5,200) and the software sitting at ¥1.9 million (around $25,000).

Like the Droid Bionic of the guitar world, the Firebird X was announced almost a year ago, packed with piles of impressive technology, and delayed so many times that practically everyone forgot it existed. Well, on September 30th the Firebird X will finally start filtering into retail channels for the rather excessive price of $5,570, in your choice of either Redolution of Bluevolution finishes. On board are a boatload of effects as well as an automated tuner, which we’ve come to expect from the so-called “robot guitar” series. The Pure-Analog sound processing engine is also open to developers, allowing owners to add on new effects and sounds down the road. But, enough with our ramblings. Clearly Amazon chief Jeff Bezos just couldn’t wait for Wednesday to tell the world about the company’s new streaming deal. The online mega-retailer will be adding 2,000 Fox TV shows and movies to its online offerings this fall, including the likes of Arrested Development, Office Space, Butch Cassidy and The Sundance Kid, and The Wonder Years. Access to the content comes with the company’s $79 a year free-shipping Prime membership. Man, that content would sure look great on an Amazon tablet, wouldn’t it?
