[CES 2015] This year’s edition of CES has seen Lenovo roll out its fair share of “winners”, so to speak, including the LaVie Z convertible laptop and a couple of tablets among others. Well, out of all that, apparently one particular smartphone went about unnoticed – the Lenovo A6000. Judging by its hardware specifications, this would more or less be an entry level device, running on a 64-bit Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 chipset with 1.2GHz quad-core Cortex-A53 processor.
Apart from that, it will also sport a 5” 720p IPS display, where the device itself will be accompanied by the likes of 1GB RAM, 8GB of internal memory, a 2MP front-facing camera as well as an 8MP shooter behind. The initial price point is rather attractive – we are looking at $169 a pop (after conversion), especially when you take into consideration how the Lenovo A6000 will come with 4G LTE connectivity alongside a couple of SIM card slots – so that you can carry around your social as well as business contacts all on a single device.
This is basically a smartphone that targets the India market, and I am quite sure it will also be clamoring for market share in other emerging markets throughout the east. Who knows, it might even make for a decent import handset over here in the US.

The “Kill Switch” ended up as law in selected states over in the US, which then saw more manufacturers as well as software developers take advantage of this security-related feature in selected devices and mobile platforms. It remains to be seen as to which particular Qualcomm chipsets down the road will feature SafeSwitch, but it looks as though it would be a standard security feature across the board for its products. Is there any difference between SafeSwtich and other kinds of kill switches? Xiaomi has definitely come into its own as a smartphone manufacturer, where this China-based company has seen explosive growth to end up in the top five phone manufacturers in the world. Having said that, there seems to be plenty of buzz surrounding an upcoming flagship in a week’s time or less – where it has been speculated to be either the Xiaomi Mi 5 or the Xiaomi Mi 4s. Leaked images of the upcoming flagship smartphone points to an extremely thin aluminum body, and the question is, would the upcoming smartphone be the thinnest smartphone in the market when it arrives?
So far, the leaked (presumably) Xiaomi Mi 5 chassis measures all of just 5.1mm thin – which is a whole lot thinner than the iPhone 6 which measures all of 6.9mm. Heck, you would have to look towards the Chinese manufacturers if you want thin – such as Gionee’s Elife S5.1 (5.1mm), Vivo X5 Max (4.75mm) and Oppo R5 (4.85mm). Hence, there are already two smartphones that are thinner than 5.1mm – which means the Xiaomi Mi5 will not gain the mantle of the thinnest smartphone in the market. Chances are it also come with a 5” plus display at 1,440 x 2,560 pixels resolution alongside the very high possibility of a Snapdragon 805 processor.

[CES 2015] Just how small will the desktop computer get in the future? I know that there is the Raspberry Pi that takes computing to even smaller levels, but to have a decent desktop experience, one would definitely need to have the right kind of firepower – and the Egreat i5 might just fit the bill perfectly, never mind that there is also the Intel Compute Stick to look out for.
For starters, the Egreat i5 is small. Very small. So small in fact, that it looks as though it is barely thick enough for full-sized USB ports. Within the chassis of the Egreat i5 would be an Intel Bay Trail processor alongside support for either Windows or Android as the operating system of choice. The factory price for the Windows 8.1 with Bing model would stand at $85, which means the eventual street price ought to reside somewhere within the realms of a Benjamin thereabouts.
Other hardware specifications of the Egreat i5 would be an Intel Atom Z3735F quad-core processor, 2GB RAM, 32GB of internal memory, a pair of USB ports, a micro USB port a micro HDMI port, alongside audio and microSD memory card slots. The law of supply and demand works in this simple manner – if there is too much supply and very little demand, the price will naturally plummet. First released all the way back in 1987 as a limited run, Stadium Events for the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) was then removed from store shelves a year later in 1988 in order for Nintendo to re-release the “family fun fitness” mat technology and game, which would then fall under a new brand.
There has been some rough estimates cited, where approximately 2,000 of the North American version were ever produced, and out of all those, only 200 arrived at stores before being recalled. It is tipped that out of the 200 available in store shelves back then, only 10% of those have survived until today. Whittling things down further, only two of those happen to be factory sealed, and one of them is now up for sale on eBay.
