NBC Universal content now available on PlayStation Network

Good news for Playstation 3 owners — NBC and Sony have just announced that NBC Universal content is now available on the PlayStation Network. In addition to NBC shows like The Office, 30 Rock, and Heroes, new movie releases like Milk and Role Models will hit PSN day and date with the DVD release, and back-catalog titles like The 40-Year Old Virgin and The Big Lebowski should already be up. Pricing is ballpark with the competition: $2.99 to $5.99 for SD and HD rentals, and $9.99 to $14.99 for SD and HD purchases. Not bad, but we won’t be happy until these fools drop the shenanigans and give us what we really want: Hulu. Make it happen, guys.

Steve Jobs Still Alive, Shows up at Disney Shareholder Meeting

Update: Apparently, Steve Jobs did not appear at the Disney meeting after all. He was just discussed there, a lot.

He might be MIA at his own company’s shareholder meetings, but Apple head Steve Jobs was feeling well enough to appear at a Disney shareholder meeting, according to people in attendance.

Jobs popped into the meeting for long enough to be re-elected to the company’s board. It was his first public appearance since Jobs first announced his medical leave earlier in the year. Jobs said in January that he expects to return to his position as Apple CEO in June.

The 404 295: Where we hide our junk in the cloud

Facebook loses your uploaded photos temporarily. Wilson knows this due to his vigilant Facebook stalking. We’re still running our motto contest, and right now it’s split between “The nerdy dirty” and “Full frontal nerdity.” If you can come up with something better, please send a voice mail to 1-866-404-CNET (2638). Please! We’re an audio show, e-mails only go so far.

Poppa corporation streams March Madness.

More on today’s show, we’ve got some news about the rise of pay-per-view porn on cable. We can’t figure out why you don’t just download it, but hey there’s still a whole population out there that still watches movies from VHS. Speaking of watching stuff, our parent company CBS is going to be streaming March Madness online this year. Expect productivity to drop to nothing–as if the economy isn’t bad enough.

Also, the economy has hit Google as well. They’re announcing that they’ll have to close two cafés. They still get to keep their free laundry, massages, lunches, dinners, snacks, stock options, etc. I know it’s rough being a Googler. We’re worried they’re going to take away our Flavia machine. Finally, did you know that you pay an average of $3 per minute with your cell phone plan? Yeah, shocker right there. Wilson had to give AT&T his first-born child when he went over.

Acer Aspire One mod adds eSATA port, an element of danger

The blogster known as tnkgrl has just rounded out a delightful series of step-by-step Acer Aspire One hacks covering the gamut from RAM upgrades to installing internal Bluetooth, a 1.8-inch HDD, and HSDPA 3G. For the final part of the series she’s salvaged an eSATA socket and placed it just above the venerable netbook’s second SD card slot — and she’s provided enough photographic evidence that if this were a crime, she’d go away for a very long time. Of course, this sort of anti-social warranty-voiding business ain’t for the timid, but if you’re feeling rather Legend Of Billie Jean, here’s your opportunity to go wild.

Lenovo intros small, green ThinkCentre A58 and M58e desktops

Quite frankly, it’s immensely challenging to find desktops more apt to make computer users fall asleep at the keys than Lenovo’s ThinkCentre line, but thankfully, they’re not exactly aimed at the “1337 gaming crowd.” In an effort to continue shrinking the size of towers and blasting us all with the company’s profound green vibes, the ThinkCentre A58 and M58e have been introduced, bringing with ’em Intel Core 2 Duo / Core 2 Quad CPUs, onboard graphics, up to 1TB of HDD space, upwards of 4GB of RAM, optional Blu-ray drives for the really productive employees and all sorts of bloatware that keeps corporate machines from booting up a second before the coffee’s ready. For those of you still awake, you can buy either of these joyous boxes next month starting at $399.

Photos: Waterproof cameras gain a beachhead

Cameras that can withstand water and shocks once were unusual, but now are spreading across the industry. At the 2009 Photo Marketing Association in Las Vegas, manufacturers showed off these rugged shooters’ features by immersing them in aquariums, hanging them from climbing walls, and encasing them in ice. Sanyo goes wireless with new line of projectors

Still haven’t found a wireless projector that meets your needs? Then you may want to consider one of Sanyo’s new LP-XU355 or LP-XU305 models, which each pack a standard XGA resolution and a new “Simple Wireless Setting” that lets you use an included USB drive to easily network with any computer. Otherwise, you can expect to get 3,000 or 3,500 ANSI lumens of brightness, a single 7W speaker in each, a wireless remote, and a full range of inputs, including a single HDCP-compliant DVI port. If you don’t mind being tethered, you can also opt for Sanyo’s new non-wireless LP-XU350, LP-XU300, LP-XU301, or LP-WXU300 models, which are each more or less similar to their WiFi counterparts, with the exception of the LP-WXU300, which ups the resolution to 1280 x 800. No word on a release ’round here just yet, but those in Japan can apparently look for the first of the lot (including the two wireless models) to roll out in May, with the remainder trickling out over the course of June and July.

Bottle Cap umbrella–no more pop tops

Brocap Brella(Credit: Samm's Umbrellas)

Oprah loves it and it could be the next darling for advertisers, too.

Unlike conventional dome-shaped brollys, the Bocap Brella looks like an oversize bottle cap that drops vertically at the edge like a skirt. It’s not clear how the wind breaks when it …

Microsoft Enters Notebook Cooler Market

Microsoft notebook coolerMicrosoft entered the market for notebook coolers Tuesday morning, expanding the software company’s reach further into PC peripherals.

The Notebook Cooling Base will be available in July for an estimated retail price of $29.95, Microsoft said.

The addition of a cooling base is somewhat disconcerting, given that Microsoft designs operating systems that consume CPU and memory cycles, producing heat, which is then transferred to a user’s lap. Ideally, Microsoft would design a slim operating system that could be run at a slower speed or in a lower-power mode, eliminating the need for such coolers entirely. But we digress.

In any event, the Cooling Base contains a fan and is slanted ergonomically, to make typing easier. Just 1.16 inches thick, it also contains a cable management clip and is USB powered. It will be available in white and black.

If you consider that design somewhat dull, take heart: Microsoft also said itsArc Mouse will be available this month in four limited-edition colors: frost white, eggplant purple, deep olive green and marine blue for $49.95 each. The Wireless Mobile Mouse 3000 will also ship in a limited-edition color palette, including blue sapphire, red garnet, pink topaz, green emerald and purple amethyst for $29.95 apiece.

IBuyPower trots out GeForce 3D Vision-equipped desktops

IBuyPower’s been on a pretty good roll of late with these new gaming desktops, and it’s keeping things interesting with its latest two. Rather than just shoving the latest processors from AMD and Intel into the Gamer Fire 640 and Gamer Paladin F830 and calling it a day, it has thrown in a 22-inch Samsung SyncMaster LCD and NVIDIA’s GeForce 3D Vision system with each rig. As for the Gamer Fire 640 specifically, it comes loaded with an AMD Phenom II X3 720 CPU, 4GB of DDR3 RAM, a 500GB hard drive, a GeForce 9800GTX+ (512MB), dual-layer DVD writer and Vista Home Premium 64-bit. The Paladin gets loaded with a Core i7 920, 6GB of memory, a Blu-ray drive and a GeForce GTX 260 GPU. Detailed specs (along with the full release) are just past the break, but if you’re scouting base prices, they sit at $1,349 and $1,999 in order of mention.
