Brownie points for the Samsung P3

Touch-screen MP3 players and PVPs are all the rage, and it’s no wonder: the migration of controls to the display of a device makes it possible to dedicate most of a player’s surface area to the screen. Thus, larger screens on smaller gadgets. Surely, the Apple iPod Touch

God knows it would take more than the collapse of the world banking system to make us skimp on our mobile phones, but Sony Ericsson is courting people on a budget–think teenagers and recessionistas–with the release of two new entry-level handsets.

Some iPhone owners are claiming that exercise, while good for you, may break your Apple device. Of course, as with most electronic devices, significant moisture can ruin Apple’s iPhone, iPod Touch, and iPod. But now, some are saying that water damage may occur during activities as mundane as going for a jog.

This past Monday, KPRC Channel 2 in Houston ran a story during its Ask Amy consumer segment titled Ask Amy: iPhones Sweat Sensitive. (The video segment can be seen here.) In the segment, investigative reporter Amy Davis pursued consumer complaints about iPhones being damaged by sweat. …

Video: Scarpar off-road powerboard absolutely must go commercial

Hoverboards? Too complicated, too far out and too expensive. What the world really needs is the Scarpar. Said device is an off-road powerboard that just moved on from the concept stage to engineering. Its creators have thrown together an absolutely sick video (after the break) which showcases all the possibilities, and now all that’s left is for those very folks to procure a good bit of venture funding to get things moving. Take it from us, VCers — hit these guys up, now.

Engadget’s recession antidote: win a Razer Mamba, Carcharias and case!

This whole global economic crisis, and its resulting massive loss of jobs got us thinking. We here at Engadget didn’t want to stand helplessly by, announcing every new round of misery without giving anything back — so we decided to take the opportunity to spread a little positivity. We’ll be handing out a new gadget every day (except for weekends) to lucky readers until we run out of stuff / companies stop sending things. Today we’ve got a swank Razer Collector’s Kit, which includes a Bond-like briefcase, a Razer Mamba gaming mouse and a Carcharias headset (among other Razer-branded goodies). Read the rules below (no skimming — we’re omniscient and can tell when you’ve skimmed) and get commenting! Hooray for free stuff!

Huge thanks to Razer for providing the gear!

The rules:

  • Leave a comment below. Any comment will do, but if you want to share your proposal for “fixing” the world economy, that’d be sweet too.
  • You may only enter this specific giveaway once. If you enter this giveaway more than once you’ll be automatically disqualified, etc. (Yes, we have robots that thoroughly check to ensure fairness.)
  • If you enter more than once, only activate one comment. This is pretty self explanatory. Just be careful and you’ll be fine.
  • Contest is open to anyone in the 50 States, 18 or older! Sorry, we don’t make this rule (we hate excluding anyone), so be mad at our lawyers and contest laws if you have to be mad.
  • Winner will be chosen randomly. The winner will receive one (1) Razer Collector’s Kit with one Mamba mouse, one Carcharias headset, one nearly bulletproof case and some random Razer schwag. Approximate retail value is $230.
  • If you are chosen, you will be notified by email. Winners must respond within three days of the end of the contest. If you do not respond within that period, another winner will be chosen.
  • Entries can be submitted until Monday, April 8th, at 11:59PM ET. Good luck!
  • Full rules can be found here.

Acer’s Aspire Timeline gets its own splash page and press shots, like a real laptop

While Acer had slides aplenty to tout its new Aspire Timeline series of laptops last night, we were a bit short on actual press shots. All is forgiven however, with Acer’s new smooth jazz fusion-infused promo site for the laptop. Not only can you read riveting PR copy on the thing (“Time is your most precious possession, and as with all precious things, you can never have enough”) and check out some press shots, but the soundtrack will take you back to the last time you were watching PBS in between programs — Charlie Rose is on at 11PM, just in case you were wondering.
