Belkin Debuts Three Comfort Mice

BelkinWirelessComfort.jpg

Peripheral-maker Belkin has released some eye-catching new styles lately, and that definitely includes this line of three just-announced mice. All are in the Comfort Mouse line, and have a downward-sloping shape that’s designed to fit the hand more naturally.

The Wireless Comfort Mouse (pictured above) comes with a USB dongle that connects to your laptop. When moving from room to room, you can hook the mouse onto the dongle, so that it stays in place and travels with you. It includes a power save mode that puts it to sleep after eight minutes of inactivity to save battery power. It comes in midnight blue, pitch black, fuchsia, and candy red, and lists for $29.99.

The Bluetooth Comfort Mouse connects via a 2.4GHz Bluetooth signal and offers a laser optical sensor for working on different surfaces. It comes in black and white, and lists for $49.99.

The Retractable Comfort Mouse includes a retractable cable that snaps back when not in use. It comes in pitch black, midnight blue, fuchsia, and candy red, and lists for $19.99.

All three new mice work with both Windows and Macintosh computers. The Wireless and Bluetooth models will arrive in U.S. stores this month, while the Retractable debuts in August.

TechSaver: Seagate 1TB Drive, Sims 3, GlobeTrotter GT Max Card

SeagateFreeAgentPro.jpg
These prices are so low, I feel like I’m stealing, like I’m a smooth criminal. That’s the way you make me feel, low prices. But keep shopping, I say: don’t stop ’till you get enough. I know, I’m bad. Say say say what you will.

1. A terabyte for a C-note? Now, this is a hot deal. Other Word Computing is selling the Seagate FreeAgent Pro 1TB external hard drive for $99. If you’re one of the many who doesn’t back up your data, this is the time to start. It offers eSATA, USB 2.0, and FireWire 400 connectivity, and a 7200rpm hard drive for fast transfers. Note that this comes formatted for Windows computers; it will work with Macs, but you’ll need to do some formatting first.

2. Sims 3 may have just come out, but you can already get it for a great price. GoGamer.com is selling copies for $39.90, which is lower than Amazon. If you’ve been reading the rave reviews and you’re ready to dive in and create your own characters, pick up a copy.

3. I could easily get addicted to the 1saleaday site. It’s like Woot, but with more useful products. Today, it’s selling the GlobeTrotter GT Max unlocked laptop modem card for $19.99. It plugs into a PC Card slot and uses your existing Sim card to provide data access to your notebook. If you’re interested, visit the site before midnight because the deal ends then.

Sprint Ad Attempts to Bait iPhone Owners

5064_96783253510_8389383510_2081632_1728361_nTalk about targeted marketing. A new ad published by Sprint (right) is forward enough to include the word “iPhone” in big, bold letters.

Similar to Microsoft’s Laptop Hunter ads, which bash Apple for its premium computer prices, the Sprint ad plays up the Palm Pre smartphone by stressing how much money iPhone customers can save by switching over.

“The Palm Pre does things the iPhone can’t,” says the ad, posted on Sprint’s Facebook page. “Run multiple applications at the same time with real-time updates and even save $1,200 over two years.”

Cleverly timed targeting, because original iPhone customers should be done with their two-year contracts by around now. But it also comes off as a desperate move, considering an analyst’s estimation that Palm has sold 150,000 Pres — minuscule compared to Apple’s new iPhone 3GS reaching one million sales in just three days.

Zune HD rumor mill: $249, 720p movies, 64GB model down the road?

It’s obviously a bit hard to put too much faith in Zune HD rumors when even Steve Ballmer himself can’t keep things straight, but someone claiming to be a Software Engineer at Microsoft (who has also dropped Zune HD tips in the past) has now spoken at some length with Neowin.net, and provided plenty of speculation fodder in the process. The biggest of those purported details is word that the Zune HD will run between $249 and $280 for the base 16GB model, and that Microsoft is also apparently considering a 64GB model for further on in the model year in addition to the planned 32GB model. Other tidbits include word that the Zune HD will boast full support for 720p movies though its HDMI out and that, as we had heard before, it’s supposedly on track for a launch in early September.

Apple behind removal of Hottest Girls iPhone app after all

If there’s one thing we can decisively say about iPhone users — and everyone else, for that matter — it’s that they shouldn’t see naked people, even if they want to. Ever. Apple agrees, and it turns out that they were responsible for the removal of the Hottest Girls app after all, contrary to a statement by its developer that the app had tapped out his server which supposedly forced him to ask Apple to pull it while he ramped up capacity. Apple released a statement today confirming this, but here’s where it gets interesting: the company says that “the developer of this application added inappropriate content directly from their server after the application had been approved and distributed” — in other words, the guy pulled a bait-and-switch on Apple by serving different content to his app after it had been approved using more PG-rated content. Look, we’re all for filling our iPhones with gigabytes upon gigabytes of stuff that would make us especially anxious to trigger the Remote Wipe feature if we were to misplace it, but we’ve got to admit — the dude went about it the wrong way here, Apple caught him, the world keeps turning. Come on, it’s not like you don’t have thousands of naughty pics in a folder cleverly named “recipes” that you can just sync anyway.

Acer’s new back-to-school desktops eating Gateway’s lunch?

Comparing Acer’s new desktops with those its sub-brand, Gateway, announced Thursday, gives you the distinct sense Acer needs to put some more thought into distinguishing the two product lines. Is Acer the value brand and Gateway the performance model, or vice versa? Based on the new systems from each line announced this week, we’re still not sure.

Acer Aspire X3810-B3801A

We’ll take Acer’s $529 slim-tower desktop first. We’ve come to like these little systems for their strong value and forward-looking array of ports, including HDMI and eSATA. The up-to-date connections combine with the Aspire X-Series’ small size to work well on either a desk or in the living room as a value-oriented standard-definition media center.

This newest X-Series, the X3810-B3801A, throws in a 20-inch Acer LCD to make a complete, relatively affordable desktop package. The 2.5GHz Intel Pentium dual-core CPU and 320GB hard drive suggest that Acer has sacrificed some specs and performance to include the monitor, especially next to the $499 Gateway SX2800-01, a small-form-factor desktop that has no LCD, but comes with a quad-core CPU and a 640GB hard drive. Based on these configurations, it seems to us that more casual users looking for an affordable, baseline functional system should look to Acer, and the performance-minded, yet perhaps budget-limited shopper should turn to quad core-equipped Gateway. Easy enough so far.

Nitho releases a plethora of Wii Motion Plus accessories

If your gaming experience seems a little underwhelming for want of little plastic Wii Motion Plus-compatible accessories, it looks like the gang over at Nitho has got your back. A quick trip over to the company’s website reveals baseball bats, golf clubs, a revolver / nunchuck, charging docks, and more: all suitable for the make-believe Pete Rose, Arnold Palmer, or Chuck Norris in your life, and all in that boring white plastic that’s become synonymous with the game system. We haven’t seen a street date or price for these bad boys yet, but we’re keeping our eyes peeled. PR after the break.

HTC’s Sense UI headed to other current Android phones

HTC unveiled its Hero at an event two days back, and the highlight of the launch, without a doubt, was not so much the physical features of the smartphone but its custom Android interface.

Windows 7 could be sold on thumb drives, but probably not

As you know, Windows 7 pre-orders begin today (unless you’re lucky enough to be in Europe, that is). This of course begs the question: what is a Win7-aspiring netbook owner to do? External optical drives are pretty kludgey, in our estimation, and trip to the Geek Squad? Out of the question. According to CNET, a “source” of some sort is goin’ around saying that Microsoft is planning on making the OS available on USB thumb drives for the ultra-portable market, although we feel that such devices are best left to the college students who rely on campus computer labs — or the occasional J.Lo album. As for Microsoft, they’ve said nothing about any of this, although we have noticed that its online store has all three upgrades (Home Premium, Professional, and Ultimate) available for pre-order download (at $49.99, $99.99, and $219.99 respectively). Problem solved, right?

Don’t drive and listen to opera

Retired F1 champion Michael Schumacher joins up with Bacardi on its campaign against drunk driving, although the drunk simulation in this video is very amusing. Watch as Schumacher pilots a Maserati around a course he has never driven, carting around three opera singers.
