PlayStation emulator coming to Android, courtesy of yongzh and ZodTTD

If you don’t know the names yongzh and ZodTTD, you can certainly be forgiven, but they’re basically the cell phone emulation dream team — where the former has been cranking out high-quality Nintendo and Sega emulators for Android, the latter is the one who brought PSX to iPhone, iPhone 3GS and the Palm Pre. Today, we hear they’re collaborating on a PSX emulator for Android that’s running faster than the 3GS version — before Froyo’s even factored into the equation — and that when his domination over the PSX is complete, ZodTTD intends to begin work on an Nintendo 64 emulator for Android, and then VLC. Without letting our enthusiasm get the better of us, let’s just say it’s an exciting time to be an Android owner, to say the least.

Motorola Droid Xtreme pictured yet again, still not announced

Quickly becoming the most well-leaked handsets since the next iPhone, Motorola’s fine little piece of kit informally known so far as the Droid Shadow / Xtreme has shown up yet again — and this time, we’re getting a great view of that bulbous posterior. The 8 megapixel cam, HD video capture, and dual LED flash are all confirmed, which takes just a little edge off the EVO 4G’s reign, we’d say. Competition is grand, ain’t it?

Natal ‘River Rush’ gameplay glimpsed, first wild gesticulation-related violence reported

In a surprising expose on the seedy underbelly of pre-release gaming demos for the whole family, Parade Magazine‘s own A.J. Jacobs reports on a bit of fun gone awry. Mr. Jacobs details the horrific scene: “We next tried an obstacle course where you have to dart under trees and jump over logs. I was really working it, leaning my body and windmilling my arms. Unfortunately, Zane, 3, wandered a bit too close to me and, well, I inadvertently smacked him in the face. He started crying.” Luckily, Zane bounced back quickly, and the Jacobs household (6-year-old Jasper was also in attendance) quickly determined that their best chances at beating the few Project Natal demos Microsoft was showing them might involve benching the old man. The Jacobs brood got three demos in all, including a couple we haven’t had a chance to play ourselves: an obstacle course, and a river rafting game we’ve seen referred to as “River Rush.” You can see a brief glimpse of it yourself (along with entirely more arm flailing than is strictly necessary) after the break.

Dell Streak HDMI dock gets the hands-on treatment, kickstand-equipped case makes a cameo

We managed to get an early look at the HDMI dock for the Dell Streak way back in February courtesy of T3‘s Greek site, but the accessory is now finally official (if not widely available), and Laptop Magazine has come through with what appears to be the first proper hands-on. Of course, there’s not exactly a lot to go hands-on with, but it seems that dock does indeed function as a dock, and it also thankfully has a USB port and a line-out in addition to that HDMI port. Perhaps just as notable, however, is a Streak case that Laptop has also managed to get its hands on, which has a built-in kickstand. Check it out after the break.

Ford Adds GPS Tracking to SYNC 911 Assist

MyLincolnTouch.jpg
Ford has upgraded its SYNC 911 Assist emergency response app with the ability to send a vehicle’s exact GPS coordinates in the event of an accident.
Unlike GM’s OnStar service, Ford 911 Assist is a subscription-free, no-additional-cost service for the life of each vehicle, including models with SYNC, plus all 2011 MyFord and MyLincoln Touch-equipped cars.
The only catch: the system requires a cell phone paired over Bluetooth in order to work. That’s probably a small price to pay, given that the majority of the population now carries a cell phone–though many lower-end and older models still don’t have Bluetooth.

SpaceX Falcon 9 Rockets Into Orbit

SpaceX_Rocket_CNN.jpg
And we have liftoff: the SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket has launched from Cape Canaveral, Florida Friday in its first launch test, CNN reports, after an earlier aborted attempt just seconds before ignition.
SpaceX, the brainchild of Paypal and Tesla co-founder Elon Musk, is a commercial venture that could eventually ferry astronauts and cargo to the International Space Station. Those trips could end up much less expensive than NASA’s 30-year-old shuttle program.
“It’s time for NASA to hand that over to commercial industry who can then optimize the technology and make it more reliable, make it much lower cost and make it much more routine,” Musk said in the report.
SpaceX’s $1.6 billion contract calls for 12 missions.

SMK Link Unveils a Laptop Docking Station with Bass

SMK Link - Notebook USB Audio StationMost docking stations that come with a laptop or can be ordered from manufacturers are designed to do one thing: consolidate cables and connections into one unit that you can dock your laptop to without having to plug in or unplug anything. If you’re lucky, you can find a docking station that goes the extra mile and adds a few USB ports. Then there are docking stations like the SMK Link Notebook USB Audio Station, which aside from being a mouthful of a name, supports just about any laptop you mount on it.

The Audio Station, which supports Windows PCs and Macs, connects to your computer with a single USB cable. Through that cable, the Audio Station gives you a powered 3-port USB hub and an integrated set of stereo speakers, all while keeping your laptop elevated so your display is at eye-level.

The Audio Station isn’t a complete panacea though: It doesn’t charge your laptop or offer any additional ports (like a DVI or VGA port) aside from the embedded USB hub. Even so, its design leaves the sides and back of your laptop clear so you can attach your normal charging cable, external display, or external mouse and keyboard, and audio is handled over USB without the need for drivers. The SMK Link Notebook USB Audio Station is available now on SMK Link’s Web site and in Apple retail stores worldwide for $59.99.

Electric car goes 623 miles on single charge

A Japanese group has driven an electric car a record-breaking 623 miles on a single charge. The vehicle ran on more than 8,000 lithium ion batteries.

Coulomb partners with Ford, Chevy, Smart to deliver 4,600 free EV charging stations in US

Looks like Australia and Poland were just the beginning: Coulomb Technologies is looking to roll out nearly 5,000 electric vehicle charging stations in the US, effective immediately. If one of those cherry-red push pins is pointed at your neighborhood, you’ll likely see the stations popping up at local businesses soon, and if you’re looking to purchase a Chevy Volt, Tesla-powered Smart or one of Ford’s two new EVs, you can even qualify to have a free station installed in your home. Partially paid for by a $15 million grant from the Department of Energy, the ChargePoint America program won’t necessarily give you free electricity to go with it — that “charge” in ChargePoint has a double meaning, after all — but we’re happy to see the zero-emissions future is finally on a roll. PR after the break.
