Yes, the feed is not serving the audio… I am re-uloading it now but it will take a while, so i recommend you watch it in video right here instead! And if not, the audio version will update in the feed within an hour or so.
I hope you are sitting, and not standing. For this is in fact the final episode of Gadgettes. Yes, it sucks. But the show will always live on in the archives. Sony Dash is ready to travel the globe if you’re ready to pay the import duties
Posted in: sony, Today's ChiliInternational readers, your day has come: the Dash will finally work for you. Sony has lifted restrictions on the device that prevented it from being used outside the US of A, meaning you can wake up with that company’s most advanced alarm clock ever regardless whether your bedding down in Belarus or shacking up in Shanghai. However, the company warns that “many providers automatically geo-filter their content so your experience with your Dash may vary depending on your location.” And, this not-so-cuddly Chumby is still being sold exclusively in the States, so it’s up to you to figure out how to import yours.

Butler Robot Can Fetch Drinks, Snacks
Posted in: intel, R&D and Inventions, research, robot, Today's ChiliMeet HERB, a robot from Intel’s research labs that can fetch drinks, get a pack of chips and sort dishes. HERB or the Home Exploring Robotic Butler is a project from Intel’s personal robotics group.
The robot sits on a tricked-out Segway base and has arms that are driven by cables to allow it to be extremely dexterous. A spinning laser on the top of the robot help generates 3-D data so robot can identify objects. There’s also a camera to help it “see.”
“It (the robot) looks big but it will fit through most doorways,” says Siddhartha Srinivasa, an Intel researcher who is working on the project. “It’s about a foot longer than the human wingspan.”
Users can tell HERB what they need using an iPhone interface that the team built. There’s also a voice recognition program in the works so you can just tell the robot loud what you want it to do.
The HERB project has been in the works for nearly four years. Intel showed the robot’s latest features at its annual research day fest on Wednesday.
HERB is just one of the many robotics project that is trying to teach machines how to do everyday tasks. Willow Garage, a Palo Alto, California based startup has a robot called PR2 that is being trained to sort laundry and fold towels.
The idea is to teach robots to go beyond carefully structured and repetitive tasks so they can move beyond factories.
Check out the video of HERB at work. HERB doesn’t move fast but if you could just sit on the couch and have it bring a bottle of beer every time, a few seconds delay shouldn’t bother you that much.

Comcast starts offering multiroom features, 500GB hard drives with AnyRoom DVR
Posted in: dvr, storage, Today's Chili, upgradeOregon and Southwest Washington are enjoying more than just the launch of Comcast’s updated A28 guide today, the company also announced it has begun offering Anyroom DVR (not to be confused with Anyroom On Demand) setups in the area. It’s a pretty standard MoCA implementation, one central HD DVR that allows customers to watch and control recorded programming from other hard drive-less set-top boxes in the same house. Comcast say Anyroom DVR is available in 20 markets including the Bay area, Western Mass, Augusta, Knoxville, Chattanooga, Little Rock and others, while forum posts on DSLReports indicate promos have been spotted in Chicago and Pennsylvania with a price tag of $19.95 for the main DVR, and the usual fees for the other boxes (maximum of 3).
We couldn’t get an official confirmation on the amount of storage available 500GB is an all too welcome improvement over the 160GB / 250GB drives still sitting in most standard DVRs Comcast issues or the FiOS one we tested a while back, outpaces the 250GB / 320GB options in AT&T’s U-verse setups and would put it on par with DirecTV’s HR24 (can be upgraded) and the new Cox Plus Package. Sure, it’s a little late to record every World Cup match in HD (or 3D) but we’re sure you’ll find something to fill the space.
Update: Check after the break for specs on the main DVR and networked set-top boxes. (Thanks, Robert!)
