39 Megapixel Camera By Phase One

Just what I have been waiting for, the 39 Megapixel digital camera…huh? Most of us haven’t even heard of a camera past 9 Megapixels, not to mention even 39 Megapixels. Along with their high end 39 Megapixel model, Phase One is also releasing 31 Megapixel and 18 Megapixel models for those who don’t feel you need that full 39 Megapixel model. Think about this also, let’s say you have a 2GB memory card for your camera, which most of us don’t even have one that large, that means you will be able to take about 15 pictures at 39 Megapixels…WOO HOO! Guess these things won’t be making it to the consumer’s hands until the terabyte memory card is manufactured.

Some details from the manufacturer:

P45 = 39 Megapixel
P30 = 31 Megapixel
P21 = 18 Megapixel

  • The ultimate P 45 digital back with 39 MP sensor and 117 MB file sizes pr shot ? for the world’s most demanding commercial photographers. The result is sharper and more detailed images than ever before, no matter if the images are going for a billboard on Times Square in New York or in a high-end fashion magazine.
  • Virtually Moir? free shooting with the new P 30 digital back ? aimed at the world’s leading fashion photographers. The new 6,8 micron pixel in the 31 MP sensor will together with Phase One’s latest version of the Capture One software deliver sharp, noise-free images with natural colors and ?no Moir??.
  • 60 frames per minute of highest image quality captures is a new first, set by the new innovative Phase One P 21 digital back. 54 MB processed image files will allow professionals to raise the quality level of all-round fashion, portrait and commercial advertising shots.
  • The first ever high performance true wireless image transfer of previews and RAW images will become the standard for Phase One shooters. This functionality will be offered to all existing and new owners of Phase One fully portable digital P-backs.
  • 3S technology ? Secure Storage System. This revolutionary new feature has recently been introduced in the latest Phase One P-series firmware. The 3S technology improves the storage security level by checking the validity on every CF-card inserted in the P-back. This way, the risk of accidentally writing to a damaged storage media is eliminated. In step 2 you can also preserve the image buffer contents, and the remaining images will be stored when the card is reinserted.

Motorola Android tablet specs and Honeycomb home screen leaked in Taiwan?

Turns out Andy Rubin might not be the only fella who’s been showing off the elusive Motorola Android tablet. Earlier this week, some lucky guy from Taiwan claims to have stumbled upon the same Honeycomb device, and was kind enough to share the above homescreen spy shot as well as some thoughts on his one-hour hands-on. We’re told that there’ll be a 7-inch version as well as a 10-inch version (the latter appears to be what Rubin had), and the one we’re looking at here has a 1280 x 800 display of unknown size, NVIDIA Tegra 2 T20 dual-core chip, gyroscope, a 5 megapixel main camera, and a 2 megapixel front camera. Memory-wise it has a 32GB embedded MMC and a microSD slot.

The poster reckons the hardware — which is “pretty light” — is all ready for launch, but Honeycomb still needs some final fine-tuning. Sadly, he hasn’t got a date, but said device will apparently be priced like the current Motorola high-end phones, and will be available in three flavors: UMTS, CDMA, and LTE (which we heard about a little while back). Well, only time will tell whether this guy really does have a good friend at Motorola, or that he’s been talking to some unicorns.

[Thanks, Samson]

Update: And just like that, the poster’s removed the offending screenshot and trimmed down his first post.

iPad 2 Will Feature Two Cameras (Rumor)

Thumbnail image for Thumbnail image for ipadnytimes.jpg

Honestly, I think most of us would be pretty surprised if the next generation iPad shipped without front and rear facing cameras. Apple has been pushing FaceTime in a big way since the launch of the iPhone 4, but let’s face it, if that technology is really going to break, it’s going to be on a screen like the iPad’s. Teleconferencing on the iPhone feels like a novelty–on the iPad’s nine inch display, I image it would feel a lot more like the future.

The latest set of rumored leaks confirm the technology. Third-party suppliers Genius Electronic Optical Co. Ltd. and Largan Precision Co. Ltd are confirming that the new iPad will, in fact, include two cameras for teleconferencing.

The list of rumors pulled together by Reuters also points to a new iPad that is “slimmer, lighter and [has] a better resolution display.”

New Device Harvests Solar Power And Human Energy

Fujitsu hyrbid energy.jpg

There devices that can gather up solar energy, and even ones that can harvest heat and turn it into energy. And now Fujitsu has developed a device that can do both. At the same time.

The company has developed what it describes as a “hybrid energy harvesting device” that gets power from both heat and light. So if you were to wear it on your wrist, for example, the device could gather energy both from your body heat and the sun. Fujitsu says the device could be used as a battery in many instances, and is looking at utilizing the technology to power sensors and medical tech.

But while we know how it works, details are still slim so we don’t really know how well it works. Still, it’s a great idea and one that could be used for a wide range of applications. Maybe one day you’ll be able to charge our phones through the battery attached to your arm.

Reebok sets sights on flexible computing sportswear, partners with startup team

Science has prototyped flexible versions of just about everything a ever-loving geek needs: displays, memory, batteries, LEDs, speakers and an input device or three. Now, Reebok’s looking to put some of that computing power up our sleeves. The apparel manufacturer’s teamed up with MC10 — a startup founded by our old friend John Rogers, who helped pioneer the field — with the intent to build “conformable electronics” into high-performance clothing for athletes over the next couple of years. Though the company told MIT Technology Review the devices typically consist of thin silicon strips printed onto flexible materials, and that they might they might measure metabolism and performance using embedded sensors, hard details are few — the only thing we know for sure is that a flexible tech scientist just scored a partnership with a major company, and we’re hopeful they’ll make something neat. PR after the break.

New Soap, Old Bottle: Hand Soap In A Heineken Bottle

new soap old bottle photo.jpg

There are plenty of companies testing out new ways of reusing and recycling packaging as a way to reduce waste. We’ve seen the reusable Replenish household cleaner, and now New Soap, Old Bottle: a company that sells soap and cleaners in recycled soda and beer bottles.

The company takes old glass and plastic bottles, cleans and sanitizes them, and then resells the bottles. Only this time they’re filled with something new. So you can buy an old Coke bottle full of glass cleaner or a Heineken bottle filled with antibacterial hand soap. The prices are quite reasonable, with most products clocking in at under five dollars, and you can even buy extra spray tops or soap pumps.

New Soap, Old Bottle doesn’t actually make its own product. Instead, it purchases brand name soap and cleaners by the barrel, repackages it in recycled bottles, and then sells it. You can check out the products on offer here.

RunCore's 1TB SATA III SSD is 3.5-inches big, 500MB/s fast

Your average SSD fits in a laptop friendly 2.5-inch slot and does so meekly, not calling too much attention to itself. RunCore‘s next SSD powerhouse, however, is a little more bodacious. It takes up a desktop standard 3.5-inch slot and is said to rely on “substantial” sized PCBs on both sides of its cool, cerulean silicon. It’s an SATA III drive offering a similarly substantial 1TB of storage, even fronting dual SandForce SF-1222 controllers for integrated RAID 0 performance. The result? 500MB/s speed, meaning this hippo does that tutu right. No pricing has been announced yet, but expect an appropriately large MSRP when it is fully announced at CeBIT in March.
