Here’s something you never knew you needed in your life: an iPhone/Android phone dock that actually dances to the beat of the music it plays. Called Shimi, it’s the sort of stupid silly fun that makes robots adorable. More »
Yes This Is Dog: Internet Meme Originated In Serbian ‘Drug Saga’ (VIDEO, PHOTOS)
Posted in: Today's Chili“Yes, This Is Dog” is one of the sillier memes that the Internet has produced, but its origins are darker than its many derivatives might suggest.
As reported by Know Your Meme, the widely circulated image is a still from a 1984 Serbian film called “Pejzaži u Magli” (“Landscape in the Mist,” not to be confused with a Greek film of the same name).
Directed by Jovan Jovanović, the film documents that gloomy life of heroin addicts living under communism in Belgrade. The website Kino Kultura describes the film as a “drug saga” belonging to the “Social Horror” genre, which mixed hedonism and a strong political message to channel the suffering of the lowest ranks of society.

No, The Conflict At The University Of Virginia Has Got Nothing To Do With A ‘Queen Bee Scenario’
Posted in: Today's ChiliBack when the contretemps that’s currently engulfing the University of Virginia concerning the ouster of University President Teresa Sullivan started heating up in earnest, I was worried that someone, somewhere in the world, would look at the conflict between the president and the school’s rector, Helen Dragas, and reduce the whole matter to some dumb “women in the workplace” story. This would have cemented the tiresome cliche that co-working women inevitably turn into bitter enemies in some grand intra-gender war for supremacy. Happily, people out there in the world did a good job of not doing that.
Until today, anyway! This morning, the Washington Post‘s Petula Dvorak decided to do some high-test concern trolling on the conflict at the University of Virginia, in which she wondered if all the interest in the story is not about the future of the institution or competing visions about higher education, but rather if it’s “just the woman-on-woman smackdown that makes us all keep tuning in?”
It has come down to a clash of two successful women, and they are both great characters, both firsts in their positions …

FreedomWorks, one of the nation’s major Tea Party groups, has tapped Deneen Borelli, a New York-based conservative activist and commentator, to lead its outreach to minorities.
Borelli is a blogger and regular commentator for Fox News and NewsMax, a conservative news site. Borelli is also author of a book, “Blacklash: How Obama and the Left Are Driving Americans to the Government Plantation.”
“In her new role, Deneen will speak at events promoting FreedomWorks’ pro-liberty agenda, participate in recruiting grassroots activists — including minorities — and aggressively challenge the misleading voices of the liberal black establishment,” according to a FreedomWorks statement.
The co-hosts of “The View” called Rielle Hunter out on-air on Tuesday, with Barbara Walters personally confronting her about one of the claims she made in her new book.
Hunter, who had an affair and a child with John Edwards, recently revealed that she and Edwards have broken up. She appeared on “The View” to discuss her memoir, in which she had harsh words for Edwards’ late wife Elizabeth. “I’m not a mistress, I’m a mom and I don’t want to hide,” she said on Tuesday.
Elisabeth Hasselbeck took issue with that statement. “Truth be told, you were a mistress,” she insisted. “I mean he was married to Elizabeth Edwards to her death.”
If you didn’t think Nintendo hit it out of the park at E3, that isn’t Nintendo’s fault. It’s yours. Such was the message in a recent Kotaku interview with the man at the top of Nintendo of America, Reggie Fils-Aime, who called gamers “insatiable.” He feels that no matter what, they won’t be pleased. He was responding to the criticism the company faced at the big trade show earlier this month.
Fils-Aime was quoted as saying, “One of the things that, on one hand, I love and, on the other hand, that troubles tremendously about not only our fanbase but the gaming community at large is that, whenever you show information, the perspective is: ‘Thank you, but I want more. Thank you, but give me more.’ … “For years this community has been asking, ‘Where’s Pikmin? Where’s Pikmin? Where’s Pikmin?’ We give them Pikmin. And then they say: ‘What else?’ For years this community has said: ‘Dammit Reggie, when you launch, you better launch with a Mario game’. So we launch with a Mario game, and they say, ‘So, what’s more?’”
What could be the most exciting part of the Wii U – Nintendo’s new online Miiverse network – was only briefly touched on. We know that the new Mario game will sell millions of Wii U units, but so did Super Mario Galaxy and New Super Mario Bros Wii. Those weren’t the problem with the Wii. It was attracting the hardcore gamer and getting decent third-party content that caused problems.
