Beer Wars: Because You Should Know How Your Favorite Beverage Gets to Your Glass [Video]
Posted in: Today's Chili A lot of us have these quaint ideas about how the beer industry works—it’s what commercials have taught us. The truth is that it’s a bloody, cut-throat battle. Beer Wars is a documentary that explores all of it… and makes you thirsty. More »
Futuristic Paper Reflects Light Like 3D Objects and Might Just Save Printed Media [Video]
Posted in: Today's Chili File this one under Straight Out of Our Sci-Fi Dreams. When you shine a light on a photo from different angles, nothing happens to the image. But what if the shadows on it could change as if it were a real, three-dimensional object? That day is closer than you think. More »
Interesting Theory: New iPhone 5 Dock Connector Could Be Compatible With Micro-USB [Rumors]
Posted in: Today's Chili Here is an interesting theory: the new dock connector in Apple’s new iPhone 2012 could be a 19-pin port that would be mechanically and electrically compatible with the micro-USB standard. I don’t know what it would be like, but I love the idea. More »
Who can forget Mario’s lovable and dependable green sidekick? Sorry Luigi, we’re still not talking about you. I’m talking about Yoshi, the omnivorous, egg-laying, ground stomping, tongue swinging dinosaur. Jacob Ashley immortalizes a familiar sight in many a gamer’s mind with this wood and acrylic piece.
Ashley made the pixel art sculpture out of pine, acrylic and epoxy. He then hand painted it to make the two heroes look like they burst out of a TV in 1990.
You can buy the sculpture at Yetee Gallery for $400 (USD), which is incidentally is also how much an original copy of Super Mario World costs today.

Ringbow Wearable D-Pad Now on Kickstarter: One Ring to Rule All Mobile Devices
Posted in: Today's ChiliIf you liked the Ringbow concept device, you’ll be glad to know that you now have the chance to help turn it into a real product and even be one of the first to own a Ringbow if and when it comes out. If you didn’t like the Ringbow, I’m sorry. I’m not aware of any Kickstarter projects to stop the Ringbow from being made.
In case you’re not familiar with the Ringbow, it’s a ring-shaped device with a dual-purpose directional pad/button that’s meant to enhance touchscreen devices. Aside from acting as a physical controller for games, the Ringbow can also be used to control a mobile device from a distance. For example, it can be used to answer a call remotely or control music playback. It can also act as a modifier to make it faster to interact with apps, similar to Shift and Ctrl commands on desktop programs.
Sir, the camera is on your left, but more importantly I’m not entirely sold on Ringbow yet. As we previously noted, developers have to add support in their apps for the device, making it one among a growing number of mobile device controllers with limited app support. But if you’re already throwing money at the screen head to Kickstarter to back the project. Pledge at least $45 (USD) to reserve your Ringbow, again if and when it sees production.
The Walking Dead is both one of my favorite graphic novels as well as television series. Sure, the TV series veers off course from the comics from time-to-time, but that’s to be expected. It’s still a pretty awesome show in my opinion. And to celebrate the TV series AND the birthday of one very lucky guy, we have this awesome Walking Dead inspired birthday cake.
It was created by theRPF forum member Maelina in celebration of her husband’s (Gorgot3000′s) birthday. The scene shows Rick Grimes, Daryl, and Andrea taking up arms against the zombie horde from atop Dale’s Winnebago (poor Dale!), while Glenn finds himself chopping up a zombies with an axe on the ground in the middle of the action.
Of course, Carl has been separated from dear old dad as usual, and has his own dangerous weapon in hand – though it seems as if he should point it at som zombies instead of the ground. Oh, Carl!
The cake is made completely from cake, sugar paste, fondant and food coloring, so it’s completely edible. But it looks so good that I’d eat it if it were made from brains. Check out more pics of this incredible bit of edible zombie goodness over on Flickr.

Don’t these paper Space Invaders look amazing? They are all rainbow and pixelly just how I like ‘em. Perfect to put on top of a gift or just hang up on the wall. These bring back good memories of blasting aliens to smithereens. Plus, the handmade touch makes them much nicer than just plain old Space Invaders wrapping paper.
They were made by Kate of Minieco who is a very talented paper knitter. I don’t think I could have done anywhere near as good of a job as she did, but if you want to try your hand at making these, she has instructions on her website.
She suggests using them as gift toppers instead of bows, which is a great idea, but you could use them in any number of ways and they will look great. These are so good I can already hear the sound effects of the game rattling around in my head.

An Ear Within an Ear: Earception
Posted in: Today's ChiliWe’ve all heard about the third eye; but have you ever heard of the third ear? And the fourth ear that follows? If you haven’t, then you’re about it. And let me just say, they’re probably not what you expected.
It’s not some weird ability or anything. It’s basically a pair of earrings fashioned in the shape, color, and form of a human ear. They’re made from Super Sculpey clay attached to stainless steel earring studs.
These are the unique creations of London-based artist Percy Lau, who has put these quirky and somewhat creepy earrings up for sale on her Etsy shop. Aside from ears, she’s got all sorts of jewelry like necklaces and rings featuring ears other human body parts, like mouths and men’s wieners (for lack of a better word), up for grabs.
The Little Third Ear earrings retail for £26 (~$41 USD) a pair.
