1600-Question Test Shows How Bad Siri Really Is [Apple]

Pitting Google search against Siri using a monster 1600-question test shows how useful Siri really is: not at all. Google answered correctly 86 percent of the time. Siri achieved just 68 percent accuracy. At that point, it’s not much better than a crystal ball. More »

Jetovator – Woo-Hoo, Ride the Hose!

When I was a kid I always wanted a jetpack, it seemed so cool to be able to strap that thing on your back and zip from place to place, then I grew up, and I still wanted one, but had a healthy fear of dropping out of the sky like a shot duck, sure wish I could catch some air without worrying about an unfortunate landing.

Check out the Jetovator, for thrill seekers that would like to take their excitement to the next level, the Jetovator is a flying bike, powered by your existing personal watercraft, it allows you to experience the freedom of flight, with the ease of riding a bike, all the while avoiding the nasty unpleasantness of crashing headlong into pavement or a tree.

The Jetovator works by redirecting the thrust from your personal watercraft through a forty foot hose to the Jetovator unit. The watercraft follows behind the Jetovater, using this hose as a tether, then this water thrust is used to propel and elevate the Jetovator up into the air. The rider is also able to redirect the thrust of the two front nozzles in order to maneuver the Jetovator in almost any direction.

Able to climb to over 30 feet above the water and dive down to 10 feet below it, this amazing stunt machine moves at speeds of up to 25 MPH. Its manufacturer professes “intuitive controls” that will allow you to glide, barrel roll and back flip in almost no time at all. You must check out the videos at jetovator.com. Of course, if you feel so inclined (and you have around 9 grand burning a hole in your pocket) you can buy one there too!

Bowser Beer for Dogs – Give your Best Friend a Brew

I know the trend is to market stuff for dogs that people usually buy because they humanize their pets, (I know I do) even dog foods have gotten a whole lot more appetizing looking, even though King probably doesn’t care one bit. Gravy and whole grains, peas and carrots, or turkey in aspic? Most dogs would be happy to eat roadkill… but now they can have that tasty roadkill with a beer.

Check out Bowser Beer, obviously marketed to people, but made for your canine and actually good for them, Bowser Beer is a healthful meaty beverage that can give your furry friend a shiny coat, supple joints and more vibrant health. So go ahead, indulge your “party animal.”

Bowser Beer’s Beefy Brown Ale and Cock-a-Doodle Brew contain a delicious broth made with Water, USDA beef or chicken, Malt extract, Glucosamine HCL, Citric Acid, Benzoate and Potassium Sorbate, it has no flavorings, artificial color, fat, salt, or MSG. In addition, malt barley is actually good for shiny coats and the glucosamine aids in healthy joint function.

These special Doggie beverages come in a familiar 6 pack and is available in beef, chicken or 3 of each flavor in tamper proof, non breakable bottles with useful resealable caps. So bring them to your next BYOB, on a hiking trip or just sprinkle some over your buddies kibble for an extra treat. 6 packs are 20 bucks and they can even be personalized with custom labels for an extra $10 at bowserbeer.com. 20 bucks? Would you spend this much moola on a dog treat? Let me know, I promise I won’t tell Fido…

Google admits MacBook Chrome crash bug

Google has admitted that its Chrome browser is the cause of MacBook stability problems, with an incompatibility between the app and the integrated Intel graphics leading to crashes. “Work is proceeding to find and fix the root cause” a Google spokesperson told Gizmodo, though the company does splash a little of the blame onto Apple itself and the way OS X Lion is handling kernel issues.

“Radar bug number 11762608 has been filed with Apple regarding the kernel panics,” the Google spokesperson continued, “since it should not be possible for an application to trigger such behavior.” Apple is yet to comment on the issue.

Google is taking a two-pronged approach to dealing with the glitch. Chrome users should have already received a patch on Thursday afternoon, that temporarily shuts off some of the browser’s use of GPU acceleration on machines with the Intel HD 4000 graphics.

Meanwhile, work is underway to come up with a more lasting fix with full GPU acceleration functionality still in place. There’s no timescale for its release, however.

Yesterday, at its second Google IO keynote, Google confirmed that Chrome now has 310m users worldwide, making it the most popular browser around according to all the metrics the search giant said it could find.

Google Statement:

“We have identified a leak of graphics resources in the Chrome browser related to the drawing of plugins on Mac OS X. Work is proceeding to find and fix the root cause of the leak.

The resource leak is causing a kernel panic on Mac hardware containing the Intel HD 4000 graphics chip (e.g. the new Macbook Airs). Radar bug number 11762608 has been filed with Apple regarding the kernel panics, since it should not be possible for an application to trigger such behavior.

While the root cause of the leak is being fixed, we are temporarily disabling some of Chrome’s GPU acceleration features on the affected hardware via an auto-updated release that went out this afternoon (Thursday June 28). We anticipate further fixes in the coming days which will re-enable many or all of these features on this hardware.”

Wii U Online will not charge fees to gamers, says Nintendo

Nintendo has mentioned in passing during a recent shareholders meeting in Japan that the whole idea of charging a fee for a subscription to Wii U’s online service is not exactly “the best approach”, according to Nintendo CEO Satoru Iwata. Of course, having said that, Mr. Iwata is also not against the possibility of introducing subscription plans in the future, but he does feel that everyone who uses the Miiverse will eventually rely on the “word of mouth” method to spread and lead the way to greater hardware and software sales. Hopefully Nintendo is right on this count, but if you are a gamer, would you prefer to be charged a fee if the gaming experience is well worth the price? One thing is for sure though – you will not find Wii U games priced at $100, as that particular rumor has already been debunked. Would you line up for the Wii U?

Delta expanding Gogo in-flight WiFi to select international flights beginning in 2013

Delta Airlines isn’t a stranger to offering WiFi on many of its domestic US flights, but using Gogo’s air-to-ground connection setup has essentially kept it from taking off over the seas. That’s all set to change come 2013, however, as 150 of Delta’s long-haul aircraft will make use of all those high-bandwidth Ku-band capacity satellites that Gogo has been acquiring over the past few months. The updated setup will ensure that you can update your Facebook status over the likes of the Atlantic, but it won’t be fully rolled out until about 2015. By that time, the airline estimates it’ll be operating around 1,000 Gogo-equipped aircraft worldwide — not too shabby. If anything, the wait to hit 10,000 feet is surely going be more interesting for all the international work-a-holics out there. Hit up the press release after the break for more details in the meantime.

Android 4.1 Jelly Bean port arrives on Samsung Galaxy S3

Don’t you think it makes sense for the latest, most powerful Android-powered smartphone from Samsung to feature the latest operating system version from Google? Many people think so, too, and after having an unofficial ROM ported over the Galaxy Nexus, here we are with an unofficial port of the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean port for the Samsung Galaxy S3. This applies for the international version of the Samsung Galaxy S3, although there are a fair number of features that do not work – such as Wi-Fi connectivity, Bluetooth and NFC support, the audio system, a camera tha fails to snap photos, and inability to detect the internal storage space. Would you be willing to sacrifice all of that for a premature taste of Android 4.1 Jelly Bean before the official version arrives? There really isn’t any point in installing it though for all practical intents and purposes, but if you are curious enough, then go ahead.
