Harrison Barnes To Warriors With No. 7 Pick In 2012 NBA Draft

OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) — Golden State Warriors owner Joe Lacob and new general manager Bob Myers had to take a red-eye flight to New York earlier this week to get a last-minute look at Harrison Barnes before the NBA draft.

Barnes is coming back to the West Coast now.

The Warriors selected the North Carolina small forward with the No. 7 overall pick Thursday night, giving the franchise a potent player at a position that desperately needs depth. Myers said as soon as Portland passed on Barnes at six, “My phone almost blew up with people wanting this pick and wanting this player.”

Damian Lillard To Blazers With No. 6 Pick In 2012 NBA Draft

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — The Portland Trail Blazers didn’t pull any early surprises in the NBA draft, filling needs with guard Damian Lillard and center Meyers Leonard.

The Blazers took Lillard out of Weber State with the sixth pick before selecting the 7-foot-1 Leonard out of Illinois with the 11th on Thursday night.

It was the first time that Portland had two lottery picks in the draft. The Blazers got the sixth pick in a trade with the Nets at the March deadline for forward Gerald Wallace.

Canon 7D 2.0.X firmware update scheduled for August, brings plenty of free fixins

Canon 7D 20X firmware update scheduled for August, brings plenty of free fixins

It’s hard to believe, but the last the last time we covered a major firmware update for Canon’s 7D DLSR the iPhone 4 was still fresh in our minds. Now, nearly two years later, Canon is offering up a bevy of new features for the camera with its soon to be released — and free — 2.0.X update. To start, folks who shoot RAW will be pleased to know that they can shoot up to 25 continuous frames (17 in RAW + JPEG) in burst mode — that’s up from just 15 previously. You’ll also be able to edit images captured in the format straight from the camera, as well as set a maximum limit of 6400 (up from 3200) for its Auto ISO mode. If that wasn’t enough, Geotaggers should know that Canon is also going to make its GP-E2 GPS module (originally introduced with the 5D Mark III) 7D-compatible. Lastly, videographers are getting a nice bump in the audio and multi-camera shooting departments; you’ll be able to manually control the mic-input with a choice of 64 volume levels (like the Mark II) and an updated sub-menu interface will allow the first four characters of your videos’ file names to be changed. The update won’t be available until early August, but you’ll find full details and a video demo at the source link below.

SwiftKey 3 is now the top paid app on Google Play

Remember SwiftKey 3 that was first released in beta in April this year? Well, it turns out that the app is destined to dominate the app kingdom of Android. Following last week’s announcement of SwiftKey 3′s discounted price of only $1.99 from the usual $3.99 price mark, the company is announcing that its app is now the top best-selling paid app on the Google Play Store. But SwiftKey’s Chief Marketing Officer Joe Braidwood said that they are not resting on their laurels just yet. Braidwood notes that people contented of having poor keyboards on their devices is the company’s biggest challenge.

“We know very well that typing on many smartphones and tablets isn’t good enough. People tell us it sucks, but most of them don’t think to demand better,” he said. At the Google I/O keynote yesterday, Google announced that the newly introduced Android 4.1 a.k.a. Jelly Bean will have an improved stock keyboard that will reportedly predict the next word that will be typed. Braidwood, however, said that this is good news for the company, saying that Google’s commitment is parallel to SwiftKey’s vision. “Watch this space, SwiftKey is only just getting started,” Braidwood added.

NBA Draft 2012 Round 1 RESULTS: Anthony Davis Goes No. 1 [Surprise!]

As expected, the 2012 NBA Draft began with the New Orleans Hornets selecting Anthony Davis out of the University of Kentucky. The prized pivot returns to the city where the Wildcats cut down the nets at the conclusion of the 2012 NCAA Tournament.

Also as expected, the drama began shortly after Davis pulled that draft cap down over his famed unibrow. Despite rampant trade rumors before the draft began, the Charlotte Bobcats held on to the No. 2 pick, selecting Davis’ former teammate Michael Kidd-Gilchrist.

When NBA Commissioner David Stern returned to the lectern for the third time, once again to chorus of boos, he called out the name of yet another one-and-done player, Bradley Beal out of Florida.

Thomas Robinson To Kings With No. 5 Pick In 2012 NBA Draft

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) — The Sacramento Kings selected Kansas forward Thomas Robinson with the fifth pick in the NBA draft on Thursday night.

Robinson was considered perhaps the most NBA-ready player in the draft and the Kings need plenty of immediate help after missing the playoffs for a sixth straight season.

Robinson, the first unanimous first-team All-American since Blake Griffin, led the Jayhawks to the national championship game against Kentucky, where they lost 67-59. He averaged 17.9 points and 11.8 rebounds per game in 31.8 minutes in his junior season and led the nation with 27 double-doubles.

Dion Waiters To Cavaliers With No. 4 Pick In 2012 NBA Draft

INDEPENDENCE, Ohio (AP) — The Cleveland Cavaliers have selected Syracuse guard Dion Waiters with the No. 4 overall pick in the NBA draft.

The Cavs envision Waiters as a perimeter scorer and backcourt running mate for point guard Kyrie Irving, last year’s No. 1 overall pick who didn’t disappoint this season and was named rookie of the year.

Waiters didn’t start a single game last season for the Orange, averaging 12.6 points in 37 games. At 6-foot-4, 221 pounds, he’s not afraid to drive to the basket and many feel he’s got a pro-ready game.

Eric Holder Contempt Vote May Signify Dead End on Fast and Furious

In a nearly party-line vote, Republicans in Congress easily passed a measure on Thursday citing Attorney General Eric Holder with contempt for refusing to produce documents tied to Operation Fast and Furious. But what comes next?

“In the days and weeks to come, we will use what we can in the way of other tools to glean additional information,” said Darrell Issa, chairman of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, who led the 18-month probe of Fast and Furious. “We will find the truth.”

Exactly what Issa hopes to still learn about Fast and Furious, which the Department of Justice already said allowed high-powered weapons to slip into the hands of criminals, remains unclear. After 18 months, no evidence has emerged showing Holder, his top lieutenants, or any White House officials or staff authorized the discredited tactics of Fast and Furious, or deliberately concealed information about those tactics from Congress.

Eric Holder Contempt Vote Purposely Scheduled By Republicans To Fall In Health Care Ruling Shadow

WASHINGTON — The Republican-led House purposely timed its vote to hold Attorney General Eric Holder in contempt of Congress to come in the shadow of the momentous Supreme Court ruling on the nation’s heath care law, Democrats said.

Democrats said the contempt vote offers a sop to the GOP’s right-wing base when most Americans, who might be reminded of Republican overreach during Clinton-era investigations, are focused on health care.

More than 100 Democrats walked out of the vote, pressed by Republicans to express displeasure that Holder has not turned over some documents that date after the failed Fast and Furious gun-running investigation ended with the death of Border Patrol Agent Brian Terry.
