Scott Mendelson: Good Film News in 2012: The Return of the Old-Fashioned ‘Movie’

This weekend is surely as shining an example as anything that the mainstream film landscape has somewhat self-corrected. We may like to say ‘they don’t make ’em like they used to.’ That may have been true for a time, but it’s not true anymore.

Mayor Ed Lee On Ross Mirkarimi: Working With The Sheriff Would Be ‘Extremely Difficult’

SAN FRANCISCO — San Francisco Mayor Ed Lee said Friday that he would find it “extremely difficult” to work again with Sheriff Ross Mirkarimi if the suspended lawman gets his job back.

Lee made his remarks while testifying before the city’s Ethics Commission, which has convened a trial-like hearing to determine whether to recommend that the Board of Supervisors remove Mirkarimi from office.

Snooze’s Big Snooze Bar Lets You Shut Your Alarm Off with Satisfaction

You might not be a morning person, but you can’t escape the fact that your job begins at seven-thirty in the morning. Rather than be a grouch about it, why not take out your frustrations on your alarm clock instead? If you’re thinking about doing that, then I’ve got just the alarm for you.

SnoozeAppropriately called the Snooze, this alarm clock has probably got the largest snooze button I’ve ever seen. It works with your iPhone 4 or 4S, so this is only for grouches who own either one of these devices. It also doubles as a dock for your phone, so you can charge it overnight while using it as an alarm clock.

Snooze Kickstarter

No worries about slamming the snooze button on this thing, because it’s made of rubber so it just flexes when you hit it.

For updates on the Snooze or to buy one, check it out over on Kickstarter. A minimum pledge of $40 will get you a basic wooden Snooze (use your own cable), $55 gets you one with a red dock cable, and the fancy aluminum versions are available for $99.

Further, the city requested nearly $1 million in reimbursements for Chicago Fire Department overtime.

Lisa Vanderpump, Reality TV Star, Shocked After House Featured On Show Bursts Into Flames VIDEO)

Just one year after reality TV star Lisa Vanderpump sold her family’s mansion, which was featured on the hit Bravo! TV show “Real Housewives of Beverly Hills,” the $20 million dollar property burst into flames — injuring a firefighter, NBC Los Angeles reports.

As well as appearing in the show’s opening credits, the house was featured in the show’s series finale, where Vanderpump’s daughter Pandora was married in a lavish ceremony on the property’s grounds. While she’s sad to see the house damaged, Vanderpump told NBCLA she’s more concerned with the injured firefighter.

“Possessions, houses, they can be replaced, you know” she told the station. “My heart goes out to the firefighter that was injured,” Vanderpump said, adding that she chose not to watch the footage of the fire.

Harlan Green: Obamacare — What Loss of Freedom?

Republicans framed Obamacare, or the Affordable Care Act, as a loss of individual freedom. But the only freedom lost is the freedom to be treated without having to pay for it, which is what the uninsured do when they have to go to emergency rooms.

LifeProof iPad Case Keeps Water Out – Without a Screen Protector

Rugged iPad cases seem to be in demand, and I guess it makes sense since people are taking their tablets all over the place. The LifeProof iPad case is both durable and waterproof, so you won’t be damaging your tech while on your adventures.

LifeProof makes some sturdy cases, and apart from offering military-grade shock and impact protection, the case is also waterproof for up to 6.6 feet. Though one interesting idea is that the screen of your ipad is actually exposed to the elements, and just sealed in place by a watertight O-ring. You’ll also still be able to use your headphones, which also has a watertight seal. The other port covers are also sealed.

LifeProof hasn’t yet disclosed the pricing of this rugged case, but you can leave your email at their website if you want further information. The LifeProof iPhone case costs $79.99, so expect the iPad case to cost more than that. The case is expected to ship in July.
