Mike Trout Catch: Angels Rookie Robs J.J. Hardy Of Home Run (VIDEO)

Think Bryce Harper is the only must-watch MLB rookie this season? That’d be some clown analysis, bro.

Angels rookie Mike Trout has been statistically even better than the Nationals’ phenom thus far in 2012, especially in June. The leading base stealer in the American League, the 20-year-old has seven homers and a season batting average of .341 (.376 this month). On Wednesday night, he also showed he is quite good with the leather.

Just ask Orioles shortstop J.J. Hardy.

Lanny Davis: Does the Truth Matter to Voters?

Why not win the campaign on the issues — and on President Obama’s positions on the issues and his vision for creating jobs and economic recovery, which, in my view, are far superior to Romney’s?

Anti-Bullying Caucus Launching In Congress

For Rep. Mike Honda (D-Calif.), creating an Anti-Bullying Caucus in Congress was more personal than political.

“As a Japanese American born at the height of World War II, I was placed in an internment camp before I could walk or talk,” Honda wrote in a statement.

“For many years after the war, I endured confrontations and insults from my peers solely because of my appearance.”

Oxygen-infused microparticles could keep patients alive without breathing

Researchers at Boston Children’s Hospital were able to design tiny, gas-filled microparticles that can be injected directly into the bloodstream to oxygenate blood. These microparticles are reportedly made up of a single layer of lipids or fatty molecules that surround a tiny pocket of oxygen gas and are immersed in a liquid solution. According to Dr. John Kheir of the Department of Cardiology at Boston Children’s Hospital, when these microparticles were infused into animals that have low blood oxygen levels, the blood oxygen saturated to almost normal in a matter of seconds. Other tests revealed that when the microparticles were infused into animals with blocked trachea or windpipe, it reportedly kept the animals alive for 15 minutes without breathing.

Other results showed that the microparticles reduced the occurrence of cardiac arrest and organ injury to the animals. Dr. Kheir explains that the microparticles will most likely be administered only for 15 and 30 minutes because it can overload the blood if used longer. He also noted that the particles are different from blood substitutes, and that it is designed for cases where in a person’s lung is rendered incapacitated. Researchers are hoping that the microparticle will be used someday in emergency situations where in paramedics will need more time to safely place a breathing tube or perform other life-saving therapies on patients.

Pet Wedding: Woman Plans Insanely Expensive Dog Nuptials (PHOTOS)

Incorporating your dog into your wedding is one thing, but orchestrating a Big Day for your dog is quite another.

But that’s exactly what animal rescue advocate Wendy Diamond is doing for her recently adopted Coton de Tulear, Baby Hope. Diamond is planning the estimated $200,000 nuptials down to the last lavish detail — including a designer gown from Kleinfeld — in an attempt to break the Guinness World Record for the Most Expensive Wedding for Animals on July 12 in New York City. (The current record is $32,000, according to the New York Observer.)

There is, however, one crucial aspect of the wedding that Diamond still needs: a “groom.” She’s asking interested dog-owners to submit prospective canines for consideration via Facebook. (A winner will be chosen on July 2.)

Chris Weigant: Popular Vote Speculation Interlude

I like to engage in the sheerest of blue-sky speculation about possible interesting outcomes that could happen. This time around, the scenario I’ve been hearing bandied about is that Barack Obama wins the Electoral College vote, but Mitt Romney wins the popular vote.

Sony LittleBigPlanet Karting beta promised soon

Sony wants to let you know that the latest adventure for its easily recognizable Sackboy mascot is heading out to fans soon. And if you can’t wait for it to come to stores, you may be lucky enough to grab an early shot at LittleBigPlanet Karting when it arrives in beta form. Sony is encouraging players to keep an eye on the PlayStation Blog for their chance to get into the beta.

LittleBigPlanet 2 was supposed to be the game that let players create any kind of game they wanted. So, arguably, if you wanted a customizable LittleBigPlanet kart racing experience, you’d be able to create that already. But not everyone has that much time on their hands, so Media Molecule and development partners United Front Games will be bringing Karting to the PS3 as the next LBP entry. LittleBigPlanet is also making its way to the PlayStation Vita platform as well, so the series is still going strong.

A post on the PlayStation Blog described the new game, saying, “Our goal with LBP Karting has been fairly simple – provide a fast-paced experience that captures the best of classic karting gameplay, married with the unbridled creativity of LBP. This new adventure will be accessible to players of all ages and have all of the variety necessary to satisfy both the hardcore and more casual players.” Further details, including release date information, will be released at a later time.

A July Debut For L.A.’s Grand Park | Zev Yaroslavsky

After two years of construction, the first segment of Los Angeles’ new Grand Park is set to open in the final days of July, a milestone in the revitalization of downtown that will be celebrated with a nationally-promoted dance celebration.
The first two blocks of the park–from Grand Avenue to Hill Street–will be dedicated by civic leaders on Thursday, July 26, near the spectacularly restored Arthur J. Will Memorial Fountain. But the big coming out party is scheduled for Saturday, July 28, with a public inaugural coinciding with National Dance Day, an event founded by producer Nigel Lythgoe, who co-created the hit TV show “So You Think You Can Dance.” Tonight, Lythgoe is scheduled to promote the Grand Park dance celebration on his Fox network show.

Roberto Lovato: Supreme Court, Brewer and Obama Usher in Juan Crow Era

Also lost in the reporting on the Supreme Court decision, is the central political fact about Arizona’s racial profiling law: both Democrats and Republicans, both Barack Obama and Jan Brewer, made the ‘papers, please’ provisions of SB-1070 possible.
