TorrentFreak has posted a supposedly leaked presentation by the RIAA’s chief lawyer that says that it defended SOPA and PIPA even though it knew the censorship legislation wouldn’t be effective against music piracy. Is the RIAA for real or are they just covering their asses, and what does it mean for your freedom going forward? More »
James Holmes Charges: Aurora Shooting Suspect Faces 24 Counts Of First-Degree Murder
Posted in: Today's ChiliProsecutors filed formal charges on Monday against James Holmes, the lone suspect in the fatal shooting of 12 moviegoers during a screening of “The Dark Knight Rises” in Aurora, Colo.
Holmes, who was represented by a public defender at the hearing at the Arapahoe County Justice Center, was charged with 24 counts of first-degree murder and 116 counts of attempted murder.
His attorneys asked for more time before entering a plea. For each of the 12 fatally shot moviegoers, Holmes faces one count of first-degree murder and one count of first-degree murder with “extreme indifference.” The maximum penalty is death, the Denver Post reported.

‘The Mob Doctor’ Star Zach Gilford Admits He Hated His Fiance Kiele Sanchez (Nikki) On ‘Lost’
Posted in: Today's Chili“Friday Night Lights” alum Zach Gilford has a lot going on: He’s starring in a new Fox fall drama “The Mob Doctor” alongside Jordana Spiro (yes, another post-“FNL” series that has Dillon High School’s quarterback Matt Saracen playing a doctor — R.I.P., “Off the Map“), but he also recently got engaged to “The Glades” star Kiele Sanchez, who might still be best known as Nikki, one-half of “Lost’s” ill-fated Nikki and Paolo storyline that enraged fans in the show’s third season.
“We bought a house, got engaged and we’re getting married at the end of the year — she is the most amazing woman in the world,” Gilford said at the Television Critics Association Summer Press Tour. But just because he’s in love with Sanchez now doesn’t mean he’s forgiven her for her past TV indiscretions: He hated her character on “Lost,” too.
“I still give her a hard time!,” Gilford said with a laugh. “When we first met, I was like, ‘I know you!’ And I was like, ‘I remember the first time I ever saw you on “Lost”‘ — I was like, ‘Who the f— is this chick?! You think I wouldn’t notice this hot female on the island?’ Like you’ve just been bumbling around in the background for two years? No. We would notice you. All of a sudden, they’re making a plan and she just comes up like, ‘What are we doing?’ [Laughs.] Wait, wait … is she an Other? What is she? Oh no, you were on the plane?”
3-D Vision CEO Gene Dolgoff speaks on his magical 2D to 3D conversion device
Posted in: Today's ChiliThis week we got the chance to speak with Gene Dolgoff, known for his invention of the LCD projector, digital projection in general, and his new device that’s up on Fundable right this minute. As he’s more than ready to let you know, he’s also got an incredibly fun fact up his sleeve: he inspired Gene Roddenberry to create the holodeck in Star Trek. It’s from there you’ll find yourself a bit intrigued with the next step in our current abilities to present 3D video and images through our own devices – with help of 3-D Vision technology that Dolgoff presents here and now.
We shot a few pointed questions at Dolgoff before he jumped right in on his Reddit AMA which, we’ll vouch for, is certainly going on today right here: [Ask ]. Have a peek at what we got to know about the project as it’s being developed for the consumer world as we speak.
SlashGear: What’s your ultimate goal with 3-D Vision technology?
Gene Dolgoff: I have been involved in the effort to promote 3-D to the world since the beginning of the 1960s. Now that the world is finally catching up, but is stalled when it comes to consumer 3-D at home (for TVs, computers, projectors, and handheld devices), I want to break that logjam with our revolutionary technology and move the world to the next level so that everyone can view and make 3-D anytime and anywhere they want.
SG: Will the device being released in the Fundable program you’ve got up right now require special eyewear for the user to see 3D? Or will the output completely depend on the device it’s working with?
GD: Our Instant 3-D Converter(TM) is currently designed to use special 3-D glasses. One type is for use with any TV set and the other type is for use with computers and handheld devices. We include one pair of each type of 3-D glasses with the converter (additional glasses will also be sold separately).
SG: What are the limits of the video content 3-D Vision technology can convert successfully?
GD: Our Instant 3-D Converter can convert any video content to 3-D instantly with high quality. Our inputs are composite, component, VGA, and HDMI.
SG: Why did you choose to work with Fundable rather than seeking out funding via traditional means?
GD: We have a business plan and even a draft private placement memorandum and are starting to talk to potential investors. However, that route is typically a slow route, and we want to get this technology out as quickly as possible. Crowd funding potentially provides a faster route for initial funding if your product and company meets the right criteria (which I think ours does).
I had been talking with the founders of fundable.com since before they launched their site. We all felt that, working together, we could be beneficial to each other both in raising some initial capital in a relatively short period of time, and in demonstrating consumer interest, which can be very important in influencing potential conventional investors.
SG: What are your plans for projects beyond this one? Will you continue your work towards a real Star Trek holodeck situation?
GD: We do have other consumer-oriented as well as commercial 3-D products in the pipeline, and will intend to continue to develop them into products and large markets. If we are successful enough to produce the kind of funding needed, we will continue to also pursue the development of holodeck-like products and applications.
Stay tuned as we follow this project through to full funding and beyond! Also be sure to check out the 3-D Vision Fundable project right now and toss in some cash for early access to the device!

If you love video games, you probably agree that one of the best rewards anybody could bestow upon you would be to turn you into a character in a game. Well, that dream has come true for a gamer named Jeremy “Spyder” Gallant. He took part in Naughty Dog’s Uncharted 3 contest and won the grand prize of being turned into a multiplayer character in the game. He spent the day with the creative team at Naughty Dog and described what he wanted his character to be like: appearance, moves, weaponry, costume, voice and even his taunt.

Facebook improves photo viewing with larger images, takes cues from Google+
Posted in: Today's ChiliFacebook has offered photo sharing in one form another since shortly after the site’s launch, but while certain features have been added over the years, such as tagging and downloads, image formatting has remained mostly unchanged. Until today. Facebook has announced that it will roll out a new tool for thumbing through galleries across the site, presenting photos in a new square format with the option to “highlight” certain shots to increase their footprint on the page. Google+ users may recognize the format, which bears some resemblance to the tool on that site. We haven’t seen the feature go live on Facebook just yet, but eager social networkers can preview it today at the source link below.

For those of you who are clearly part of the early adopter school of thought, here is something which you might be interested in – it seems that folks who purchased an Asus Eee Pad Transformer Prime at the end of last year and are not too happy with what your hard earned money gave you in return, keep your fingers crossed. It seems that a bunch of Transformer Prime users have reported that those who purchased the offending tablet from Best Buy might stand a chance of exchanging the tablet from Best Buy themselves for a spanking new Asus Transformer Pad Infinity.
To date, we have heard of how Asus Transformer Prime units have actually been affected by various issues including poor GPS performance, near non-existent Wi-Fi reception, issues concerning Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity when both options are turned on at once, as well as lag problems that persist regardless of the number of Over The Air updates. If this is true, then it is nice of Best Buy to run such an exchange program. Faith in corporations restored!

What the Olympic Opening Ceremonies Looked Like From a Performer’s Hidden Camera [Video]
Posted in: Today's Chili One of the performers appearing in the industrial revolution section of the Olympic opening ceremonies had the foresight to build a hidden camera into their costume, giving the rest of us a first-person view of what it’s like to be part of the spectacle. It’s a unique angle that not even NBC could have provided, including behind-the-scene glimpses before everyone was paraded out into the performance. [PetaPixel] More »
How many of you out there actually make use of Gmails’s video chat feature in your browser window? I suppose there would be a fair number of users, although if you were to tout it as more than the number of users who perform video chats via Skype, there should be some hard numbers backing up that claim to be believable. The latest improvement made to Gmail would be the availability of Google+ Hangouts – where Hangouts will make full use of Google’s network so that it can offer a higher degree of reliability and enhanced quality, allowing you to chat with all of those whom you have talked to before, reaching them regardless of whether they are on Gmail or on Google+ – and it does not even matter if they are using their desktop browser or “chatting” through their Android or iOS devices.
Imagine being able to video chat with up to nine people simultaneously, now how about that? Since the Olympics is going on at the moment, why not watch YouTube videos together remotely, and you need not even share that tub of popcorn, now how about that? Enjoy the video above that touts the wonders of Google+ Hangouts on Gmail.

I am not quite sure whether “better late than never” applies to the Samsung Galaxy Note for T-Mobile, as the world is already looking forward to the sequel, aptly known as the Galaxy Note 2, and here we are still talking about the original “phablet” from Samsung that is tipped to arrive this August 8th over at T-Mobile. The asking price for this relatively antiquated piece of technology? We are looking at $250 a pop with a new 2-year contract, and this comes about after you take advantage of the mail-in rebate. Sounds pretty expensive, and no doubt it is considering the kind of far more powerful and updated smartphones that you can get at that price point. It would be interesting to see just what kind of sales figures T-Mobile is able to ramp up with this puppy a few months down the road. Something deep down inside of me figure out that it is not going to make that much of an impact at all, and might even bomb considering how the device itself is far more affordable on other retailers.
