You crack that frosty brew. It’s a hot day. You’re salivating. You take a deep swig and… what the hell is that? Pepé Le Pew? A flatulent egg farmer? No. It’s your precious beer, and it’s gone bad—skunked beyond recognition. How could this happen? More »
If you’ve been eying the iPhone 4 for that low price point of $99 lately for the 8GB model, we have some great news. In what we are hearing is a new, permanent price drop, Best Buy is now selling Apple’s 8GB iPhone 4 for only $49 with a new 2-year contract agreement. This goes for Verizon, AT&T, and the Now Network.
Checking over at Best Buy’s website this doesn’t appear to be a sale of any sort, and is the actual price moving forward. For those that don’t need the iPhone 4S, this is a solid price and comes just in time for those back to school shoppers. This new price comes just a few days after Apple’s Q3 earnings report earlier this week. Where they stated to have sold around 27 million iPhones this quarter, which was viewed as low numbers.
We can expect sales of the older iPhone 4 to soar a little bit with the new competitive pricing, although with all the recent rumors of the iPhone 5 (or the new iPhone) some might be waiting to see what Apple has up their sleeves. If you’re eligible for an upgrade and are ready to sign a new contract, head to Best Buy and snag the iPhone 4 8GB for just $49.99 available today.

If you’ve ever wanted to know what it’s like inside a HP laptop factory, check out the video embedded above. According to reports online, this video was found by a Reddit user on his brand new HP laptop inside the My Documents folder. We have no idea how the video ended up on the laptop, but it’s probably a test video that the workers forgot to delete before sending the laptop off. Some special effects even get added in the second half of the clip.
Fortunately nothing out of the ordinary was caught on camera. Since most of us will probably never step foot inside one of these factories, I guess it gives us an interesting perspective on what goes on behind the scenes before we purchase our laptops.

3D printer cuts vinyl, mills, draws, fits comfortably inside a briefcase, is generally fab
Posted in: Today's ChiliIs there anything this tool from MIT’s Ilan Moyer and collaborator Nadya Peek can’t do? Probably, but that list seems likely to be shorter than the list of those it can. So far, Popfab has been shown doing a little printing during a brief video, but Moyer has promised a lot more to come, telling Core 77, “we also have toolheads working for vinyl cutting, milling and drawing,” all of which promise to show up in subsequent episodes. The tool (which has other fans) has apparently already made its way around the world in the form of carry-on luggage, helping fulfill its creators desire to support “the nomadic designer” — just a briefcase, a power source and a dream.

Google, as you may already know, is in deep trouble with a number of authors who don’t like that the company has scanned their books into the Google Books database. The long-running lawsuit is turning seven years old this year, and now Google is asking for its dismissal after a judge refused a proposed $125 million settlement last year. The authors suing Google – backed by the Authors Guild – were granted class-action status earlier this year in May.
Google submits that the authors involved in the lawsuit don’t have much a claim here because they haven’t demonstrated how Google Books’ online offerings, which is now comprised of more than 15 million books, have caused them any loss. In fact, Google claims that by scanning excerpts from books and putting them into an online database, the company is actually helping the authors out. The Authors Guild sticks by its claim that the company’s Google Books endeavors amount to nothing more than “massive copyright infringement.”
Reuters reports that the authors have until August 24 to file a response to Google’s move for dismissal. Google could be dealing with more than just angry authors before long, however, as Judge Denny Chin says that graphic artists and photographers may also join the case against the company. If they do, Google could have a pretty big mess on its hands, so it’s no wonder the company is making the move for dismissal. Stay tuned.

The Largest Mirror In the World Is So Big That You Can See It From Space [Image Cache]
Posted in: Today's Chili This is the Salar de Uyuni, the largest salt flatland in the world at 4,086 square miles (10,582 kilometers). Every year, this amazing wonderland in southwest Bolivia covers with a thin layer of water. When that happens, it turns into the largest mirror on the planet, as these photos recently taken by Takaki Watanabe show. More »

New pictures have just leaked of Pantech’s second 4G LTE device for Verizon Wireless. What you’re looking at below is their new Pantech Star Q, complete with a slide-out QWERTY keyboard and decent mid-range specs. The new budget offering hasn’t been confirmed yet, but the folks from AndroidandMe received the picture below confirming its existence.
What you’ll get from the Pantech Star Q is an overall decent mid-range smartphone. It runs on Verizon 4G LTE, and packs the same 1.5 GHz dual-core S4 processor as the Galaxy S III, but that is where the good news ends. Most likely it will be a free device, or around the $49 mark — otherwise I doubt many will be buying it.
It rocks a 4-inch display, 3 megapixel camera on the rear and Android 4.0.4 Ice Cream Sandwich. Sadly for some reason Pantech’s UI changes to Ice Cream Sandwich makes this phone look like something from 2009. The low WVGA resolution screen and measly 3 megapixel camera (without flash) will keep this phone on the low end of the price spectrum, that is for sure. It has a 5 row hardware QWERTY keyboard for fans of those, and will most likely be a very budget friendly phone. Now all we need is a price, release date, and official announcement. We’ll update when we hear anything more.
