Motorola’s latest ITC complaint against Apple targets newer iOS devices and Macs, messaging and sync

iPhone 4S and Motorola

Motorola filed its most recent ITC complaint against Apple so late into last week that the court system couldn’t immediately provide more details; we’re only just seeing documents now that the weekend is over. As it stands, the case involves seven patents that mostly touch on staple technologies of the modern mobile world, such as syncing messages between devices and bookmarking media playback on one device to resume on another. Does that last technique sound familiar? You might recall it being a cornerstone of the movie and podcast support that Apple has implemented since 2005. Despite reaching that far back into history, Motorola is just as eager to modernize the targeted hardware list to keep its complaints relevant — the current iPad, the iPhone 4S and other devices are at risk of a trade ban, posing more of a threat to Apple’s bottom line than the dust-covered (and near-finished) initial legal challenge from October 2010. Before coming to any conclusions, though, remember that the newer complaint isn’t likely to have any speedy resolution of its own. Past ITC cases have usually taken a year and a half to complete, which could leave most or all of today’s technology as another distant memory.

The Fifty Shades of Grey is the most successful, badly-written book around—so bad, the prose reads more like lorem ipsum dummy text than actual best-selling literature. More »

Leaked iPhone 5 parts claimed to fit perfectly when assembled

Earlier this morning, we took a closer look at the iPhone 5′s display – images rumored to be the real deal, of course, but it seems that some more alleged next generation iPhone components were also spotted later in the day. Well, now that the sun is down and many of us are about to retire for the day, what else is there to read about the iPhone 5? A bunch of alleged iPhone 5 leaked parts were touted to be assembled by an online electronics repair company, and they claim that these bits and pieces will fit “perfectly.”

According to iResQ (whom we saw their images earlier today), the smaller docking port and headphone jack assembly attached to the frame without a hitch, touting, “The docking port and headphone jack assembly seemed to fit perfectly inside of the frame. One of our technicians was even able to screw the assembly into the pre-aligned screw holes inside of the frame. All of the threading and screw holes lined up perfectly with the screw holes in then docking port/headphone jack assembly.” (more…)

WASHINGTON — The super PAC supporting Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney’s campaign raised $7.4 million in July, according to a report filed Monday with the Federal Election Commission.

Corporate contributions totaled $3.1 million for the month, while individuals contributed $4.3 million.

Wealthy Texas homebuilder Bob Perry led the way last month with a $2 million contribution to the pro-Romney super PAC. Perry, who has now contributed a total of $7 million to Restore Our Future, was followed by contributions from some notable corporations.

Aerogel from NASA is a super insulator

NASA might have garnered their fair share of attention with the introduction of the Curiosity Rover on Mars for some time now, but that does not mean the organization is resting on their laurels. You can be sure that they have plenty of concurrent projects running, and the aerogel is one of them. This particular flexible material is the second generation of its kind, where researchers over at NASA triumphantly claimed that they have made a “major improvement” to the aerogel, allowing it to come in the form of a stronger and ultimately, more flexible version of the original. Echoer Combines Human Thoughts with Places, Now on Android

I met Echoer co-founder and CEO Daniel Cowen back in April, when the company launched its iPhone App. At that time, he showed me a detailed demo of the application on his iPhone and I liked it very much, primarily because it is highly visual and it integrates what people think about a place, a feature that is not available in Foursquare.

Echoer allows people to see the most relevant thoughts, events and discoveries around them, by visually showing the most relevant content related to a place using larger “floating bubbles” 9see screen shots and video). The intuitive interface makes it easier to instantly discover popular recommendations and opinions about local restaurants, bars, gigs and events.
