Retina MacBook Pro gets Moshi protection up front

If surface protection for your Retina MacBook Pro is what you’re after, Moshi has the accessories for you – this week announcing both a new palm rest and screen protector for the masses. This set of accessories, the iVisor screen protector and the PalmGuard palm rest protector are set to keep your device looking sharp in combination with no less than Moshi’s ClearGuard keyboard protector too!

This comprehensive collection of guards for your device will keep your display, your keys, and the area under your wrists ready for action and looking fabulous. This is always the aim with the folks at Moshi, a group that aims for fashionability and great aesthetics in their designs whether they’re made to protect or made to connect with your electronic gadgets.

With the PalmGuard you’ve got the following key features ready for action:

• Color-matched with the MacBook’s aluminum finish
• Precisely machined to cover the entire palm rest area
• Comes bundled with a matching protective film for the MacBook’s trackpad
• Semi-rigid film protects against grease, dust, and stains, scratches and corrosion
• Durable, can last through multiple re-applications

The ClearGuard keyboard protector keeps your keyboard clean with high transparency film that’s just 0.1mm thin. This cover is made of thermoplastic urethan (durable, non-toxic, engineering-grade) and is both washable and reusable.

Finally you’ll find that the iVisor Pro for the Retina MacBook Pro (15-inch version, of course), you’ll get guaranteed bubble-free installation “with minimum effort.” This iVisor Pro is updated with a new bit of multilayer coating over Moshi’s previous solution, here bringing on screen clarity with glare reduction in tow. This solution also has the ability to be washed and re-applied more than once, with Moshi’s own “resilient polymer adhesive” making it all possible.

You can check them all out over at Moshi’s product page right this minute, and don’t forget to head down to our timeline of Moshi products as well to keep up to date on all things fashion-friendly!

Xiaomi Phones may enter Europe next year, because China ain’t big enough

Xiaomi may enter European market next year

Here’s a bit of good news to soak in over the weekend. After the unveiling of the Xiaomi Phone 2 (aka Mi2) in front of some 3,000 people yesterday, a reliable source informed us that the Chinese startup is already looking to bring its highly affordable phones to Europe next year. Alas, we couldn’t get a more specific time frame, but assuming Xiaomi wants to deliver its first quad core device to the Europeans as well, it’d likely be within the first half of next year, well before the next August 16th announcement (the company’s managed to stick to the same date so far).

Of course, it all depends on whether Xiaomi can scale its business model for the unknown territories, and it’ll certainly need some solid partners to do so — much like its collaboration with local retail channels China Unicom, China Telecom and Vancl. Luckily, the MIUI developer will be doing a warm up first in Taiwan. As reported by Business Next last month, chairman Lei Jun made a high profile visit to several Taiwanese carriers in the hopes of breaking into their market by the end of this year. If successful, Lei should be able to meet his ambitious sales target of 6 million Xiaomi Phones accumulated — still some way away from the 3.52 million units sold so far. Judging by the madness at the event this week (see gallery below), it should be no problem.

LeapPad2 tablet launches at $99.99

Leap Frog has announced that its LeapPad2 tablet is now available, and it’s aimed squarely at your children. Leap Frog says that this is a significant upgrade over the original LeapPad, as it comes with a better CPU – an LF 2000 processor to be precise – and 4GB of memory. It also comes with a pretty tough exterior, which will definitely be a major selling point for most, as children aren’t know to have that delicate touch required for more conventional tablets.

Another needed feature is that it doesn’t come with Internet access, with Leap Frog instead offering it’s own library of learning apps and games. It’s backward compatible with LeapPad cartridges, so if you owned the original LeapPad, you don’t have to worry about buying all new cartridges. Applications for the LeapPad2 cost $5.00 each, while cartridges cost $24.99.

In addition to the new processor and the souped-up memory, the LeapPad2 also comes complete with front and rear-facing cameras and sports a longer battery life than the original LeapPad. It comes in green and pink, but there’s a special edition Disney Princess LeapPad2 available as well. The green and pink versions come in at $99.99, while the Disney Princess edition will set you back $129.99.

All in all, not too bad if you want to get your child a tablet to keep them occupied, but don’t want them getting on the Internet and racking up a huge download bill. There’s also the added benefit of the apps and games being educational, so your kids actually stand to learn something while playing. The LeapPad2 is recommended for children ages 3 to 9, and is available right this very instant from Leap Frog.

Nexus 7 returns to Google Play as 3rd parties push accessories

Google has once again fully replenished their supply of ASUS-made Nexus 7 tablets in both 8 and 16GB iterations, with delivery again cut back to 3-5 days on both models. Several times since the launch of this device in both iterations we’ve seen the Google Play store online move shipping times back to weeks instead of days and once or twice run out of stock of one or both tablet sizes entirely. At the moment it appears that Google and ASUS have come to a point where supply has met the demand.

In addition, groups such as DODOcase have begun shipment on accessories like their HARDCOVER case. This case makes the Nexus 7 appear to be a hardcover book and is available in four different colors, red, purple, gray/black, and blue. Also included here is a magnet hidden in the cover so that when the cover is closed, your Nexus 7′s display will be put to sleep!

We’ve also had a peek at the official Nexus 7 case as distributed by Google too – it’s quite simple and not a whole lot of imagination is required to make it work. You’ll not have to worry about dropping your device on gravel anymore should to pick this unit up, that’s for certain. This case is also available on the Google Play store online and shipping is just as quick as the unit itself.

And for those of you that want to grab a Nexus 7 tablet with no cash at all, there’s always an NVIDIA event like the one we’ve got going on right now. All you need to do is tell us what your favorite Tegra-laden device or TegraZone game is and BAM! You’re right in the mix – grab one of three right this second!

Legend of Zelda Hyrule Historia Book: A Link to Link and Everything Zelda

Fans of the Legend of Zelda series have long wondered about the chronology and connection of the 16 main games. As part of its 25th anniversary celebration this year, its creators finally revealed the canonical answer to these questions and more in the book Legend of Zelda: Hyrule Historia. Originally available only in Japan and only in Japanese, an English translation of the book is now slated for release in North America as well.

Aside from explaining “the full history” of the franchise – including details on the bloodline of the Hylians and their decline – the 274-page Zelda bible also contains lots of never before seen concept art and sketches, as well as a Skyward Sword manga. Here’s a look at the Japanese version of the book, courtesy of YouTuber MyGamingBoulevard:

The Amazon listing for the book claims that co-creator Shigeru Miyamoto co-authored the book, but all I can say for sure is that he penned the book’s introduction. You can pre-order the book from TFAW for $28 (USD) or from Amazon for $21. It will be available on January 29, 2013.

Motorola event invite set for HD device delivery

Looking forward to the start of next month, Motorola has set an event for the 5th of September with a high definition device for us to look at and adore. This device is teased by the title of the invite card “Motorola. On Display.” and will be ready to rock in colorful New York City, New York. We must assume that this will be the Motorola RAZR HD, a smartphone with a display that’s got more pixels than your retinas could ever hope to handle.

This event will be held in collaboration with Verizon, so we must assume that the name DROID will also be in the mix. This type of event generally reveals a set of devices or one single hero device, and in this case, we’re betting on the second option. Motorola is ready to keep with the trend of boosting their Android-toting wares upward with pixels on screen, and now we’re hoping the innards come with on the ride as well.

Verizon is one of several carriers also tipped to be receiving shipment of another hero device from the likes of Apple next month, so we must also assume that Motorola wants to make this launch happen as quickly and as smoothly as possible. Expect a device, again likely called DROID RAZR HD, to be coming to the carrier before mid-month, 4G LTE in tow.

Stick around the main news feed here on SlashGear or dive in to our Motorola portal to see if you can put the puzzle pieces together here before the main event. Motorola is itching to release a new smartphone and/or tablet, and you can bet it’ll be bringing on a display that’s sharper than we’ve ever seen delivered from them before. Stay tuned!

Motorola schedules press event for September 5th, dubs it the ‘day’s main event’

Motorola schedules press event September 5th

September 5th is going to be a pretty busy day, by the looks of it. While we’ll likely get to see a few Windows Phone 8 devices in Nokia’s Lumia lineup in the morning, Motorola has scheduled a Save the Date for the afternoon. We’re not sure exactly what to expect, though it’s certainly possible we’ll see a Droid RAZR HD or XT907 to balance out whatever Stephen Elop will be showing off. (We especially love the dig at Nokia by saying it’s “the day’s main event.”) We’ll keep you posted as we hear more, and we’ll be there to give you word on the latest and greatest from HelloMoto.
