Humble Bundle returns with five paywhatyouwant games for Android, Mac, Windows and Linux

So let us get this right. You can pay what you want, and get another stack of games for your Android — or, indeed Mac, Windows or Linux machine? And help charity? And this is actually proving very popular? Yes, Fieldrunners, Bit.Trip Beat, Uplink and SpaceChem, are the latest games to get the Humble Bundle treatment on the aforementioned platforms (the latter two are tablet-only when buying for Android). Oh, and if you’re generous enough to pay above the average, you’ll unlock the Spirits platform-puzzler, too. We’re finding it pretty hard to argue with, especially as you get to decide the distribution of cash (between charity, the hardworking devs, or the platform-providing Humble). Judging by the real-time stats on the site, people aren’t holding back on the cash, either. Still not convinced? Hop on the free-for-life video after the break to see the games in action.

Sceptre Speaker Sound Bar offers bang for your buck

Most of us are willing to spend good money on a spanking new TV set, where the larger it is, the better. Well, having said that, it is no surprise that a fair number of us do neglect taking into consideration the audio aspect – and most standard issue speakers that accompany most TV sets are not exactly prime examples to be proud of. The Sceptre Speaker Sound Bar, however, intends to change this perspective by offering you great sounding audio without breaking the bank.

For starters, the Sceptre Speaker Sound Bar will feature a versatile speaker that comes with built-in high efficiency amplifier technology which is touted to add crystal clear 3D surround sound to any TV or connected music player. The dual speakers that come with it can deliver up to 20 Watts each, which would double the sound capabilities of traditional TV sets. Apart from that, it will also boast of High Efficiency Amplifier Technology that allows it to pump out rich 3D crystal clear Surround Sound, making it the ideal addition to any TV set or living room.

Cathy Chou, vice president of operations, Sceptre, said, “Sceptre’s new Speaker Sound Bar gives users the ability to enjoy high quality sound without the hassle and need of purchasing and installing expensive entertainment systems. The unveiling of the Sound Bar reinforces our commitment to providing quality home entertainment solutions with the perfect balance between performance and affordability.”

Each purchase of the Spectre Speaker Sound Bar will be accompanied by a wall mounting kit and an infrared remote control that will play nice with other Sceptre TVs in your home, doing away with the need for multiple remote controls. Not only that, it will also boast of an auto fading LED light display panel that will help reduce brightness and glare whenever you watch a movie or do so at night.

The list of goodies do not stop there though, as a quartet of preset sound modes that are individually tuned will be able to provide the best audio quality whenever you sit down to relax, watching your favorite movies or news, while listening in to music or playing games. The asking price for the Sceptre Speaker Sound Bar? We are looking at $169.99 that frankly, ain’t too shabby not to consider.

Ford invests in electrification big time

It seems like Washington and the big automakers in Detroit have gone electrification crazy. Everyone is working on the electrification of the automobile industry with more hybrids and pure electric vehicles being researched and produced all around the world. The push for electrification is to save drivers at the pump, help the environment, and to reduce the nation’s dependence on foreign oil.

Ford is talking about its significant investment in electrification with its Electrification Center of Excellence boasting 285,000 square feet of research and development space. Ford states that it now has over 1000 engineers working on vehicle electrification, which is the highest number of engineers on the project ever. Ford has added 60 new engineers over the last year and dozens more will be added in the year ahead.

Most of those 1000 engineers are located under one roof at the newly dedicated Advanced Electrification Center in Dearborn, Michigan. Ford has also announced that it will double its battery testing capabilities by 2013. The increased focus on battery testing will accelerate hybrid and electric vehicle development by as much as 25%.

Ford invested $135 million in the design, engineering, and production of key components, including advanced battery systems for next-generation hybrid vehicles that will go into production this year. Ford’s battery testing capability will increase to 160 individual battery test channels by 2013. This will be accomplished by adding some highly specialized machines that are able to test and simulate things like battery performance and battery pack thermal behavior over a range of temperatures and possible operating conditions.

AT&T developing tech to help parents keep teenagers from textinganddriving, hopes to saves lives

By now, you’re likely aware of some of the repercussions that come with shooting an innocent text to a friend while being behind the wheel. Well, in an effort to keep these unfortunate accidents from ever occurring, the AT&T Foundry’s been hard at work, hoping to come up with solutions to help with this serious matter. Most recently, the Rethink Possible outfit showed off an application that’s currently in the works; one that allows parents to track their teenage drivers’ every move, as well as remotely turn off calls and disable all messaging features — which the carrier says will be a great compliment to its DriveMode app. It’s worth noting the unnamed application was being showcased on one of Cupertino’s slates, but AT&T’s said it’s willing to work with “device makers, car makers and developers,” as the ultimate goal is to ultimately “encourage more solutions.” There’s a video past the break for your viewing pleasure, and we think it’s worth all of its 197 seconds of airtime.

Fujifilm introduces FinePix S4200 and SL240 bridge cameras

If you want to step up from a point-and-shoot but don’t want to deal with the monumental task of changing lenses on a DSLR, Fujifilm’s new bridge cameras may be just what the doctor ordered. The company has new two cameras on offer, the FinePix S4200 and FinePix SL240. Both cameras make use of 24x optical zoom lenses, with an DSLR inspired designs for easy handling.

Both cameras use 14-megapixel sensors and have 3-inch LCD screens for live shooting and photo playback, and there are electronic viewfinders so that budding pros can accurately frame shots. The cameras also employ Fujinon optics and image stabilization in order to correct your caffeine induced shakes, helping to keep everything nice and sharp.

The difference between the two models seems to be how they’re powered. The FinePix SL240 has a rechargeable lithium battery that’s rated for up to 300 shots on a single charge, while the FinePix S4200 is powered by AA batteries. The latter is probably more handy for travellers running low on juice, while the former keeps things nice and simple.

Fujifilm says both cameras will be available in red, white, and black. The FinePix S4200 will set you back £149 (~$234), while the SL240 will command a slightly higher price of £199 (~$312). Both should be available right now.

TiVo Premiere 4 is official, brings four tuners and 500GB of storage for $250

The TiVo Premiere 4 DVR that broke cover a few days ago has been officially confirmed by the company, with exactly the specs indicated. In case you’re not familiar, it’s a quad tuner DVR that ships with a 500GB hard drive and standard TiVo remote, slotting in below its big brother at retail — the 2TB and THX-endowed Premiere XL4. The smaller hard drive is something that Doug Bieter, director of retail sales, says solves the Sunday night log jam of shows, even if its less of a multi-season archive, and with MoCA and Ethernet still coming along for the ride makes it particularly ideal for multiroom setups with that extender that’s still due to arrive soon. The Premiere 4 will start shipping right away and will cost owners $249 along with a one year commitment to service at $14.99 or lifetime service for $499, check TiVo.com, custom installers and Best Buy Magnolia stores near you to snag one.
