LAX Bomb Threat: Officials Determine There Are No Bombs

Operations at LAX have ground to a halt Tuesday afternoon after a bomb threat was called into Terminal 2 and on a plane, reports the Los Angeles Times. After about two hours of investigations, however, officials determined that there were no bombs.

LAX has addressed the issue on Twitter throughout the investigation, and started warning travelers to plan ahead at around 2 p.m. because of the traffic caused by a “police matter.”

It’s just that simple.

The site, made by Wells Riley, Ian Hirschfeld, and Alex Baldwin, this thing probably won’t be interesting once enough folks have retina laptops but it’s a nice little endeavor by a few clever folks. They’ve clearly got a little affiliate cash coming in from this but if you’re curious as to whether your favorite text editor or media player are retina-ready, this is your site.

Bill Maher Talks Paul Ryan, Sarah Palin & Medical Marijuana On HuffPost Live (VIDEO)

Bill Maher stopped by the HuffPost Live studio in L.A. Tuesday afternoon to talk with host Jacob Soboroff about Mitt Romney, Paul Ryan, voter ID laws and Los Angeles’s ban on medical marijuana. The host of HBO’s Real Time with Bill Maher is returning to TV this Friday night after a six-week break from the show.

Maher had a hilarious take on Paul Ryan (seen above), claiming that Mitt Romney’s running mate has only two ideas, and expressing confusion over why some conservatives see him as different than Sarah Palin.

“Somehow he’s the smartest guy in the party and she’s the stupidest woman on earth, but they agree on everything,” he said.

Hampture underwater colony established for science, leads the way for future hamster space exploration

Hampture underwater colony established for science, leads the way for future hamster space exploration

Animals have had a rough time of it, when it comes to scientific exploration. Look no further than Laika, the first animal to orbit Earth, soon becoming the first animal to die in orbit, not too long after achieving that earlier distinction. The dwarf hamsters that occupy Hampture seem to be considerably happier in their own scientific explorations than the Soviet mutt, at the moment. Bob Averill brought the project to our attention last week on our visit to Portland, Oregon. According to the official blog, the project is an attempt to “learn firsthand what is involved in designing and constructing a complete underwater habitat capable of sustaining complex organisms.” It also may well be a gateway to sending the hamsternauts into space via Skystation Mk1. Averill is also looking to turn Hampture into a salable product, though Kickstarter, for one, has apparently balked at the idea. In the meantime, you can check out a streaming feed of the habitat after the break and read up on the making of the project in the source links below.
