Pokemon Characters Turned into Freaky Tim Burton Creations

You all know Tim Burton as the only man on planet earth who can make an animated nine year-old child give a grown man nightmares.  (Yes, I’m talking about Frankenweenie.)  On an unrelated note, you probably also know a man named M. Night Shyamalan, who is the only guy who can put a (un-satisfying) twist ending into every single one of his movies.  Anyone see that movie Devil?  SPOILER: It was the old lady, who died almost halfway through the movie.

So sit back, relax, and enjoy these Pokemon characters drawn like Tim Burton would have imagined them.

These were done by a Tumblr guy named Hat Boy, who is currently drawing Pidgey in the style of Tim Burton.  (He’s just going in numerical order.)  The above is a rather mutated, frustrated Venusaur that the frightful person himself would approve of.  I’ll tell you what, though: if that came ouf of a Pokeball, I think you could win most battles by default.

This Tim Burton-like representation of Charmeleon is one of my favorites that HatBoy has created.  Why?  It reminds me of the two little guys from the Hercules Disney movie.  It also reminds me to plug in my nightlight, since I am now afraid of what I may find under my bed.  Hint: my bum brother-in-law wielding a pack of opened matches.

Here’s our little buddy Squirtle, complete with creepy dot nostrils characteristic of Tim Burton characters.  I’m done giving myself the heebie-jeebies, so you should probably go check out something else weird like the Q*bert Pillow.  Or, if you’re drawn more to the Pokemon side of things, take a look at these custom Pokemon onesies.  For adults.

Joss Whedon working on ABC Pilot called S.H.I.E.L.D.

If you want to the theaters this summer to see The Avengers, you may or may not know that Joss Whedon was involved with the project. The Avengers was a massive hit, was easily the biggest film of the summer, and made a huge amount of money. If you miss the days of Marvel superheroes on TV, a new series is in the works from Whedon.

Even more interesting than knowing he’s working on co-writing a new ABC pilot for a TV series is that the series he is working on is set in the Avengers universe. The project is tiled S.H.I.E.L.D. and follows the secret military law enforcement group headed by Nick Fury. I doubt we’ll see Samuel L Jackson in the project, he makes a good Fury.

Reports indicate that Joss Whedon, and his brother Jed are co-writing the pilot along with help from Joss’ wife Maurissa Tanchareon. There are also indications that Whedon might direct the pilot if his schedule allows. I would hope if Whedon directs the pilot, whomever they choose to direct the individual episodes is up to par.

The production for the pilot is going to get underway as soon as possible according to Mercury News. S.H.I.E.L.D. isn’t the only Marvel superhero property ABC is developing as a series. It looks like The Hulk is also coming back to television. That was my favorite show growing up, The Incredible Hulk and The Dukes of Hazard made for an exciting Friday night in the 80′s.

DOCS2GO Scanner for iPad

How many of you out there actually use a scanner, raise your hands? Well, scanners are useful for stashing important documents and immortalizing them in the digital format, as you have more or less run out of space to store those physical papers. Here is one unique scanner that doubles up as an iPad dock as well – the £149.99 DOCS2GO Scanner for iPad. Coming in a sleek form factor, the DOCS2GO Scanner for iPad will be able to scan documents and photos amongst others, where all you need to do is dock your iPad in the standard 30-pin connector, send those documents that you want to be scanned through the scanner, and see them appear on your iPad’s display, as though there was a bunch of garden gnomes hiding in your iPad to perform such magic.

Definitely a whole lot more enticing to look at than the noisy flatbed scanner, the DOCS2GO Scanner for iPad will run off juice from your iPad’s 10W power adaptor. It is a snap to tote around in your backpack whenever you travel, and it has just strengthened the case for tablets being a viable portable workstation for folks who work in a mobile environment.

ASUS Designo MX279H and MX239H monitors are slim, inspired by sundials

ASUS Designo MX279H and MX239H monitors are slim, inspired by sundials

We’d wager that “inspired by sundials” isn’t a phrase you expected to hear at this year’s IFA, but there it is, in the press release for a pair of new monitors from ASUS. The Designo MX279H and MX239H have edge-to-edge screens, largely free of worrisome bezels and slim profiles at 14.5- and 17.5 millimeters, respectively. The displays are matte IPS, which offer up a 178-degree viewing angle, according to the company. And the stands — they’ve got “sundial” written all over them. Peep the press release after the break.

ASUS outs dockable Windows 8 Vivo Tab and Vivo Tab RT

ASUS outs dockable Windows 8 Vivo Tab and Vivo Tab RT

It looks like IFA will be where many Windows 8 devices shown back at Computex get (more) official. Exhibit A is ASUS, which today pulled the curtains on the Vivo Tab and the Vivo Tab RT, previously known as the ASUS Tablet 810 and the ASUS Tablet 600, respectively. There’s still no pricing info available, but the company has filled in some of the remaining spec gaps.

As we previously knew, the Vivo Tab sports an 11.6-inch IPS display with a 1,366 x 768 resolution and supports a Wacom digitizer input in addition to 10-point multitouch. The tablet runs an Intel Atom CPU with 2GB of RAM and 64GB of storage. The Vivo Tab measures 0.33 inches thick and weighs in at 1.5 pounds. There’s also an 8-megapixel camera with autofocus and LED flash, plus a 2-megapixel shooter up front. As we learned back in Taipei as well, an NFC sensor will be on board.

Then there’s the Vivo Tab RT, which is slightly smaller, at 0.33 inches thick and 1.1 pounds, and with a 10.1-inch screen. Like its non-RT brother, it boasts an IPS display with a 1,366 x 768 resolution, but it runs a Tegra 3 processor and a 12-core GPU, with 2GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage. The RT tablet includes the same cameras and NFC sensor as the Vivo Tab.

Of course, these two slates also come with a Transformer-like dock, which adds a full QWERTY keyboard, trackpad, two USB ports and a second battery. The missing element to this equation is still pricing and availability: check back for those details, and in the meantime hit up the press release below the break.

ASUS 15-inch Zenbook U500: Ivy Bridge, optional NVIDIA graphics and a full numpad (update: hands-on)

ASUS 15inch Zenbook U500 handson Ivy Bridge, optional NVIDIA graphics and a full numpad

ASUS is expanding its Zenbook lineup to include a larger 15-inch model. The company just announced the Zenbook U500, an Ultrabook packing some pretty robust internals. There’s an Ivy Bridge Core i7 processor under the hood, along with an optional NVIDIA GT650M graphics chip and up to 512GB of storage. No word on weight yet, but the package measures 0.78 inches at its widest. The U500 also keeps in line with other Zenbooks’ aluminum design, complete with the famous spun-metal lid.

The 15-inch form factor gives the U500 room for a separate numpad on the keyboard (there’s backlighting here, too). For storage options, you get either dual SSDs with up to 512GB capacity or the combination of a 128GB solid-state drive and a 500GB hard drive. And, like ASUS’ other latest Zenbooks, this machine will sport a full HD, anti-glare display with IPS technology. The company has yet to announce pricing and availability — that info will come at the company’s Windows 8 press event.

Brian Heater contributed to this report.

Archos GamePad For Android Gamers Tired Of Touchscreens [Gaming]

We were less than impressed with Archos’ last attempt to provide Android users with a hardware alternative to a touchscreen UI. Its Gen10 XS tablet packed a nifty keyboard/cover combo, but everything else was downhill from there. So maybe the company has learned from its mistakes and can deliver a solid handheld gaming experience with its just announced Android GamePad. More »
