Chris Christie Keynote Speech, Ann Romney Headline GOP Convention First Night

TAMPA, Fla. -– Good cop. Bad cop.

The Republican Party showed the nation one of its most winsome faces on the first night of the GOP’s shortened three-day convention, giving Ann Romney the first half of prime time.

Romney gave a sentimental and personal description of her husband, Mitt Romney, the former Massachusetts governor who on Tuesday night became the first Mormon to be nominated for president by either political party.

Bain Capital At GOP Convention Goes Unnamed On Day One

Among all the rhetoric and exultant language on the first day of the 2012 Republican Convention, one phrase was notably absent: Bain Capital.

Not a single speaker was heard mentioning the name of the private equity firm founded by the Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney, despite hours on Tuesday devoted to selling his record as a strong leader capable of turning the economy around.

It shows how toxic Bain has become for the former Massachusetts governor after sustaining attacks both from fellow Republicans during a vicious primary race and more recently from President Barack Obama’s campaign, which highlighted Bain’s investment in companies that sent American jobs overseas.

The Official Republican Line on D.C.

Last week, you read about the Republican Party platform committee and its extensive efforts to ensure that the District maintains its colonial status vis-a-vis the federal government. But now, with the GOP convention in full swing in Tampa, Fla., you can actually read what the platform itself says about our city. Here’s every line in the Republican platform that deals with District affairs. Remember, the platform committee was chaired by Virginia Gov. Bob McDonnell, so if there’s anything you don’t like in here, just hop over the Potomac and grouse about it there.

Looxcie live video streaming hits iOS, Android, and Facebook

The folks at Looxcie have brought their fabulous mobile-connected streaming camera abilities to iOS and Android devices this week along with Facebook too! This update brings the Looxcie streaming video environment out to your smartphone – no longer requiring that you use the Looxcie Bluetooth Video Camera device – and also connects you with a new Facebook app to make the whole experience perfectly simple and smooth!

One of the most fabulous parts of this whole situation is the fact that it not only brings Looxcie camera abilities to the camera that’s already on your smartphone, it also allows you to continue using your Looxcie device if you wish. Users with smartphones using iOS 5.0 or newer or Android 2.1 or newer are invited to join in on the fun with a variety of abilities. This app update also brings on 480p resolution video streaming with 15 frames per second to back it up!

The mobile app works with AAC LC audio and is able to accept or play calls in the middle of a stream – your streaming video will simply stop, allowing you to make the call, and continue once you’re ready to keep cruising. The Facebook app then works to allow anyone using the social network to see your streams from the mobile app – this includes both live broadcasts and recorded broadcasts as well. Both the mobile app and the Facebook app also have Community Channels so you can browse public live videos at any time, and you can connect with friends streams in both environments as well.

Video quality is automatically adjusted based on your internet connection and is optimized to look as great as it can, whatever your connection. You’ll be able to work with Push to Talk to speak to anyone making a broadcast, and text chat works inside your window as well. This app has notifications that tell you if a friend has invited you to a stream, and all connections are able to be handled by Facebook – add em all!

Both the Facebook app and the Looxcie app for both iOS and Android will be out immediately if not soon. We’ve had a peek at the Looxcie Android app several months ago and have tried out the new version here before the launch – things are definitely looking up! This company is set to expand exponentially now that they’re diving in to the mobile space without hardware restrictions – so to speak – now we’ve got to see if a Looxcie streaming universe is what the people want!

Mitt Romney Is Not Impressed (PHOTOS)

New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie (R) delivered a rousing speech at the Republican National Convention on Tuesday, bringing attendees to their feet on a number of occasions. Mitt Romney, who earlier in the day officially became the GOP presidential nominee, didn’t join them. He tried to feign excitement when Christie finally mentioned him, about two-thirds of the way into the speech:

mitt romney not impressed

But all in all, Romney was not impressed.

So we took a gander at the possibility of the LG Spectrum 2 being released soon, and not only that, we have also spotted accessories for the LG Spectrum 2 earlier this morning as well. Here we are with a leaked image of the LG Spectrum 2 that you can see above. Well, just what do we know about the possible specifications that are coming your way if you were to pick up the LG Spectrum 2?

For starters, we do know that it will come with a 4.7” True HD IPS display, powered by a dual-core 1.5GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 processor, carry 1GB RAM, have the usual back and front facing cameras which will capture images in 8-megapixels and 1.3-megapixels, respectively, as well as a 2,150mAh battery that delivers adequate amounts of juice for your everyday smartphone needs. Sharp reports 2,000 job cuts in Japan, more changes expected

There was little doubt jobs would be on the line after Sharp’s significant Q1 losses, but now it’s official. Following a board meeting today, the company has joined the likes of RIM, Sony and HP, announcing the “voluntary retirement” of around 2,000 staff in Japan before the year’s out. The layoffs are part of a wider, textbook reorganization plan, and are expected to cost a sizeable 27 billion yen (approximately $344 million). Neither figure is set in stone, however, so when everything is finalized we could see more jobs impacted and those costs soar. Whether this puts off potential investment from Hon Hai Precision Industry is unknown, but while Sharp’s TVs get ever bigger, its wallet continues to get thinner.

Apple injunction on Samsung set for December 6th showdown

If you are interested to find out the results of Apple’s injunction against Samsung’s products, then you might want to mark down December 6th on your calendar, as that is the date that a U.S. judge set to hear Apple request for a permanent injunction against Samsung Electronics’ smartphones (all 8 of them for starters), and between now and then, it might just delay the impact of Apple’s recent legal victory that saw Samsung have to fork out $1 billion in damages over to the fruity company.

Originally, a hearing concerning the preliminary injunctions had been scheduled for September 20th, although it remains to be determined whether the 8 device ban from Samsung will be addressed then, or will it be moved to the end of the year. U.S. District Judge Lucy Koh mentioned that the scope of Apple’s preliminary injunction request was large enough that it was deemed “appropriate” that various post-trial motions be consolidated.
