Nintendo Wii U launch for Europe might be brought forward to 23rd November thanks to advertising glitch

According to the official announcement, the Nintendo Wii U is expected to make its way to Europe come 30th of November which is a good 12 days after the US gets it. Well if you’re living in Europe and you wished that the console would release earlier, you might get your wish thanks to an ad which has revealed that the Wii U will be released on the 23rd of November instead. Oddly enough, these ads only appear for those who do not have Flash enabled in their browsers, but turning Flash back on will revert the ad back to the 30th of November date. Are we looking at a glitch here or has the Nintendo Wii U released or Europe been bumped up by a week? If that is indeed the case, it is good news for European gamers but if it isn’t, then we guess there was no real loss to begin with. Either way we will be keeping our eyes peeled for more information, but until Nintendo acknowledges the possible change in dates, we suggest you keep your expectations to a minimum for now.

iPhone 5 falls short of analyst estimates despite massive sales

Selling 5 million iPhone 5s in the first weekend of availability certainly sounds like a win. Apple sold roughly 1 million more iPhone 5s in its first weekend of availability compared to the number of iPhone 4S’ that Cupertino sold in that smartphones first weekend of availability. Despite moving 5 million units the first weekend, the iPhone 5 fell short of some analyst estimates.

BusinessWeek reports that supply constraints delayed shipments meaning Apple’s newest smartphone missed estimates put forth by some analysts. Apple has admitted that demand for the new smartphone was higher than availability of the device leading to delays of some early online orders. Shares in Apple stock declined, reports BusinessWeek, due to concern that supply constraints could hamper Apple’s ability to outpace rivals such as Samsung.

Analysts are concerned because the iPhone represents about two-thirds of Apple’s profits and is a crucial product for the company. Analyst Brian White from Topeka Capital Markets had said that he expected Apple to sell 6 to 6.5 million units, excluding Internet purchases that haven’t been shipped, in the opening weekend. He believes that Apple falling short of his estimates has to do with supply constraints rather than demand.

Apple stock shares fell 1.3% to trade at $690.79 at the close of trading. However, Apple stock has still gained 71% this year. Apple doesn’t figure Internet orders into its sales totals until the phones are delivered. That means that the presumably massive number of sales made online during the opening weekend that weren’t delivered aren’t counted in Apple’s 5 million unit record weekend. Analyst Brian Marshall from ISI Group expects that counting orders in transit right now, Apple moved 6,000,000 to 8,000,000 units.

Samsung Galaxy Note II hits UK on October 1st

Samsung has announced pricing and availability for the Galaxy Note II in the UK, the follow-up to its surprise niche success the Galaxy Note “phablet.” The new Note II will hit UK shelves on October 1, both at Samsung’s flagship London store and via carriers on all major networks.

No official pricing for the Note II in the UK has been confirmed, though retailers have begun taking preorders themselves. Clove, for instance, has the 16GB Note II listed at £440 pre-tax, SIM-free and unsubsidized, though we’d expect the carrier versions to be offered from free with a qualifying agreement.

Your money gets you not only a 1.6GHz quadcore processor, HSPA+ connectivity – unlike the LTE versions in the US – and a 720p Super AMOLED touchscreen, but a special digital stylus which can be used to handwrite notes, sketch out diagrams, and make annotations to photos, videos, and presentations. There’s also an 8-megapixel main camera and a 1.9-megapixel front-facing camera, with Full HD video recording.

Samsung had already announced availability for the Galaxy Note II in the US, with US Cellular already throwing the 5.5-inch handset up for preorder. More on the Note II in our hands-on.

Blizzard looking into turning Starcraft 2′s multiplayer into a free-to-play experience

I’ve never really fancied the free-to-play model as it usually leads gamers to spend more than they would have if they had bought the game outright. However it seems that the F2P model is catching on and it seems that Blizzard might be interested in it as well. If you thought that this might have something to do with their MMORPG, World of Warcraft, you’d be mistaken as apparently Blizzard is currently looking at perhaps turning the Starcraft 2 multiplayer experience into a F2P one. This was revealed (via PCGamesn) at Valencia eSports Congress by Starcraft 2: Heart of the Swarm’s lead designer Dustin Bowder. However this is not a guarantee and is by no means confirmation, but rather Blizzard just exploring the possibility.

According to Bowder, “We don’t know how [Blizzard] would monetize it. While it might be good fun for me to play against someone with only half the units available to them, that’s not going to be an enjoyable experience for them.” What do you guys think? Should Blizzard embrace the F2P model for Starcraft 2?

XCOM: Enemy Unknown playable demo now available on Steam

2K games has been showing off videos and talking a lot about its coming video game called XCOM: Enemy Unknown for a while now. The video game is a strategy game from Firaxis published by 2K, and a playable demo is now available to download at no cost. The playable demo offers players two levels of the single player tutorial campaign.

The two available levels of the playable demo allow the player to experience combat controls and effective tactics for defending humanity against the alien threat trying to wipe us out. 2K says that the two tutorial missions available in the demo will also introduce players to the XCOM base. This base is where soldier training, and the research of alien technology takes place.

In the base, players get the chance to experience the tactical and strategic layers of the video game. The playable demo available right now is for PC gamers only and can be downloaded via Steam. 2K says that a playable demo for console gamers will be coming soon.

The full video game is available for pre-order right now at participating digital retailers for $49.99. Pre-ordering the game guarantees players a bonus called the Elite Soldier Pack. That special package allows the players to receive a new recruit in their barracks inspired by the original game with the blonde, flattop hairstyle. The soldier pack also allows players to customize the soldier with different static upgrades for armor and to customize colors in the game.

The iMpulse Bluetooth gaming controller is small enough to double as a keychain

If you like gaming on the go but don’t like the onscreen controls, here’s a solution for you – the iMpulse gaming controller which is small enough to fit onto a keychain, but functional enough for you to get some gaming done. Put together by Black Power Media, the iMpulse is currently a Kickstarter project seeking funding so if the idea of being able to bring a gaming controller with you wherever you go while fitting into the pockets of your pants, you can head on over to its Kickstarter page to pledge a donation where a pledge of $30 will net you the controller upon its successful funding and release.

So, what will you get for your $30? Well for starters you will be getting a Bluetooth gaming controller that comes with four buttons and a control pad, which can be used to play supported iOS and Android games. It is also ambidextrous which means gamers who are a lefty or righty should have no problems using it. To top it all off, given that it can be used as a keychain, an alarm can be activated via an accompanying app that will help you locate your keys in the event that you’ve misplaced them. For those more into multiplayer gaming, two of the iMpulse controllers can be used at the same time, so multiplayer gaming on the go is feasible (assuming the game is supported, of course). Sounds pretty good! Anyone planning on pledging a donation to make the iMpulse become a reality?
