Todd Akin Missouri Senate Run: Candidate Rebuilding After Rape Remark

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. — Written off by many in his own party a mere month ago, Republican Rep. Todd Akin has been slowly rebuilding his Senate campaign after apologizing for inflammatory remarks about pregnancy and rape.

Now Akin is approaching a critical week that could determine whether his re-emerging campaign can gain enough momentum to put Missouri back in the battleground column as Republicans attempt to win control of the Senate from Democrats.

Mohamed Sanu Touchdown Pass To A.J. Green: Bengals Score On 1st Play Against Redskins (VIDEO)

Cincinnati pulled off an incredible trick play on the first play of the game against Washington that not only resulted in a touchdown, but made all of the excitement among Redskins fans for RG3’s home debut disappear.

The Bengals lined up in a wildcat formation with quarterback Andy Dalton standing near the right sideline as a receiver. Surely they wouldn’t throw the ball with Dalton lined up there, right? Wrong.

Wide receiver Mohamed Sanu took the snap, faked a handoff and launched a deep pass down the middle to A.J. Green behind the Redskins secondary. Green left DeAngelo Hall and DeJon Gomes in his rear view as he jogged into the end zone for the 73-yard touchdown.

‘The Hobbit’ Poster: Bilbo Baggins Grabs His Sword (PHOTO)

Tolkien Week closed out with a bang.

To celebrate Hobbit Day — which, as Middle-earth denizens know, is celebrated at the end of Tolkien Week on Sept. 22– Warner Bros. released a new poster for “The Hobbit.” This year’s Tolkien Week had an extra special meaning as it also coincided with the 75th anniversary of the publication of J.R.R. Tolkien’s “The Hobbit,” which happened on Sept. 21, 1937.

The new poster features Martin Freeman as Bilbo Baggins holding a sword. It’s composition is familiar to anyone who remembers the poster art forPeter Jackson’s “Lord of the Rings” franchise.

Emma Watson Nylon Cover Catches The Actress In An Unflattering Pose (PHOTO)

This is not Emma Watson‘s month. After suffering a wardrobe malfunction from her too-low cut dress a couple of weeks ago, the 22-year-old’s latest cover for Nylon has been released and it’s… well, let’s just say it’s not her best.

The “Perks Of Being A Wallflower” actress poses with her co-stars Ezra Miller and Logan Lerman for the October issue of the magazine. The boys manage to come out looking good, but Emma seems to have been caught in an unflattering moment with her eyes half closed. And since she is placed front and center, her awkward expression just makes the whole cover look a little off.

Now we don’t want to sound like we’re hating on Emma. We absolutely adore her, but we know that she can look better than this (exhibit A). So why did Nylon have to choose this particular shot? The face of Lancome has a pretty good track record of taking fantastic photos, so it seems like a strange choice to us. The androgynous styling is cute enough (Emma even chose to wear safety pins in lieu of earrings inside the mag), but we just wish the photographer would have snapped her with a less off-guard expression.

NVIDIA to offer up documentation for Tegra graphics core to prove its commitment to opensource

There’s nothing like a little smack talk to light the fire under certain derrieres. It’s been a few months since Linus Torvalds got verbal about NVIDIA’s support for the semi-eponymous OS, prompting the chip-maker to say “supporting Linux is important to us.” Proving that its word is good, NVIDIA will be releasing programming documentation for its Tegra architecture graphics core. The news comes from a talk given by Lucas Stach of the Nouveau project (who develop free drivers for the NVIDIA platform) at the XDC2012 conference. The focus will initially be on Tegra’s 2D rendering engine, but it’s hopes the 3D will soon follow. So, while Torvalds’ approach might have been a little bit brusque, you can’t fault its effectiveness. Video of the XDC talk after the break.

Ride-Along: No Murders, One Shooting Makes It A ‘Good Day’ In Englewood

Englewood’s reputation for violence is well-deserved. This is where three members of Oscar winner Jennifer Hudson’s family were gunned down in 2008 and where Officer Alex Valadez was fatally shot while on duty a year later. More recently, teen rapper Joseph “JoJo” Coleman was killed earlier this month in a drive-by shooting possibly connected to an Internet feud with another rapper.

This year, though, the number of murders in Englewood has plummeted by 30 percent, even as the number of killings citywide is up 27 percent.

Will.i.am Song Featuring Justin Bieber Hits Internet (LISTEN)

Justin Bieber fans, get excited, but not too excited. A new song from Will.i.am’s upcoming “#willpower” album featuring the teen pop sensation has leaked on the internet. While Bieber does indeed sing on the track — “You and me / Forever” is his only line — his contribution is minimal, leaving more room for the Black Eyed Peas rapper’s curious lyrics, like “Make it nasty/ Make it nasty” and “Make it juicy/ Make it juicy.”

No word on the actual release date of Will.i.am’s fourth studio album, which was recently pushed back from Oct. 15 due to a slew of leaked songs such as this one. The album also features collaborations with Britney Spears, Chris Brown and David Guetta.

What do you think of “You and Me,” readers? Take a listen above.

Data Centers Waste a Ridiculously Massive Amount of Energy [Data Centers]

There is a lot of data out there, and more is being created every day. It takes a lot of resources to keep it around, and make sure that you and everyone else can access what they want, when they want, with minimal downtime. Naturally this takes a lot of energy, but the New York Times looked into exactly how much. It’s a ridiculous amount. More »
