Toshiba Camileo BW20 camcorder is one tough cookie

I am quite sure that some of us out there do our very best to make sure that the shiny new device which we just purchased is covered with a layer of protection, but despite our best and most sincere efforts, the inevitable eventually happens, where a momentary lapse of concentration results in the heartbreaking sound of your smartphone hitting the concrete floor from the height of your waist. Another broken screen and a few hundred dollars poorer later with a replacement device, you swear to yourself that your next purchase had better be able to match your legendary butterfingers ability, which is exactly why we are talking about the Toshiba Camileo BW20 camcorder today.

The Toshiba Camileo BW20 camcorder is not only waterproof but shockproof as well, and to dive straight into its extra tough features, here we are with word that it is capable of working just fine even up to 16 feet underwater, and will shrug off dust as well as shocks, brushing off accidental drops of up to five feet. Definitely families and sports enthusiasts who love recording whatever comes their way regardless of the situation will fall in love with the Toshiba Camileo BW20 camcorder, and parents, too, will be able to let their little ones perform some video capture at times without worrying about whether the Camileo BW20 is able to live up to the rigors of a child.

That’s for its durability, how about its imaging performance? Toshiba will not sell itself short with the Camileo BW20, where it boasts of an f/2.2 aperture lens, a 5-megapixel BSI CMOS sensor, and video image stabilization so that you can shoot video with greater clarity, even when you are underwater. Not only that, sharing your videos and photos on YouTube, Facebook, Picasa and TwitVid are a snap, not to mention being able to relive those magical moments on a HDTV thanks to the built-in HDMI output port. The BW20 even comes with a handy floating wrist strap so that it will not end up at the bottom of the pond or lake.

Toshiba is asking for a reasonable $129.99 for the Camileo BW20 camcorder as it makes its way to decent retail stores all round.

Shocker: Samsung is ‘likely to add’ the iPhone 5 to its Apple lawsuit

Shocker Samsung is 'likely to add' the iPhone 5 to its Apple lawsuit

After emitting an appropriate number of yawns and groans, staff at the federal court in San Jose have accepted a document from Samsung’s lawyers stating that the manufacturer “anticipates” adding the iPhone 5 to its list of ongoing patent grievances against Apple. Samsung did acknowledge that it needs to “analyze the device” before being certain of its devilry, but it also clearly remains undeterred by that separate billion dollar verdict in Apple’s favor. According to the Wall Street Journal, Samsung’s latest challenge — if it goes ahead — is not expected to affect sales of the new iPhone.

Valve adds Meepo to DotA 2 in latest patch

For those who have played the original DotA on Blizzard’s Warcraft 3, then you’re probably familiar with the hero character “Meepo”. Well the good news is that if you were looking forward to playing Meepo in DotA 2, you’re in luck as Valve has announced that they will be adding Meepo in the latest update for DotA 2. Just in case you forgot because you haven’t played for so long, Meepo is a character in DotA (and presumably in DotA 2) that has the ability to split himself into multiple copies. Gamers who have a knack for micromanaging will find him a pretty strong hero to use, while those who aren’t might find themselves totally confused. In any case if you’d like to read the rest of the patch notes which describes some of the changes and fixes that the latest patch has made, head on over to the DotA 2 forums for the details!

Huawei Ascend G600 survives FCC interrogation

Huawei Ascend G600 survives FCC interrogation

The Huawei Ascend G600 is expected to arrive in Europe sometime this month, but in the meantime, the middle-weight smartphone was recently spotted at the FCC, where it revealed… well, not much. We’re able to determine from the test reports that this is, indeed, the handset bound for Europe, as its UMTS / HSPA (3G) capabilities will be limited to the 2100MHz and 900MHz bands. Meanwhile, here in the States, the phone will be limited to EDGE connectivity. The Bluetooth and WiFi components also received a stamp of approval from the FCC, although the inclusion of these components should be a surprise to none. Beyond its connectivity, the Ascend G600 will combine Android 4.0.4 with a dual-core 1.2GHz CPU, a 4.5-inch qHD display and will sell for €300 ($390) whenever it actually hits store shelves.

Sony Xperia ionIf you own the Sony Xperia Ion on AT&T’s network you’re probably a little annoyed that the owners of the international version of the phone have already received their Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich update. The update will bump your phone’s software build up to 6.1.c.1.105 and will introduce the features that many have come to known, and possibly love, in Ice Cream Sandwich. No official word from AT&T yet so we’re not sure if this is a full rollout or maybe just a test rollout to select users. If you have received the update via SuS, let us know the comments below!

Apple patent describes “shake to charge” technology that could one day power iPods and iPhones

You know how you have some gadgets that you can shake in order to power it? Dubbed electromagnetic induction, this is a production of an electric current in a conductive element as it moves through a magnetic field, which in turn is used to generate power for the abovementioned gadgets. Apart from its rather novel value, does it have a place as an Apple-like feature? While currently used to power some flashlights and radios, a patent granted to Apple has revealed the Cupertino company’s plans to use this technology in their products in the future.

However unlike the more traditional method of electromagnetic induction, Apple’s version will use printed coils with moveable magnets, while the typical version is the opposite where a coil will move around a stationary magnet. According to the patent, it can be mounted onto a portable device with Apple’s iPod and iPhone used as examples. We’re not sure if we will ever see this “shake to charge” technology make its way onto the iPod or iPhone in the future, but what do you think? Just sounds like flying iPods and iPhones from hands waiting to happen!
