2013 Honda Insight Hybrid hailed as most affordable hybrid in the US

Honda is talking up its 2013 Insight Hybrid that it claims is the most affordable hybrid in the United States. The pricing for 2013 is unchanged from the 2012 model and the hybrid starts at $18,500. Honda notes that the 2013 model will go on sale on September 18.

The vehicle is a five-door hybrid that offers 41 mpg city, 44 mpg highway, and combined EPA fuel economy rating of 42 mpg. The 2013 Insight is offered in three different models, including the base Insight featuring a 160 W audio system, automatic climate control, power windows, and more. The Insight LX adds a USB audio interface, cruise control, RMS console, formats, security system, and steering wheel mounted audio controls.

The Insight EX adds alloy wheels, a six speaker audio system, heated side mirrors with integrated turn signals, Bluetooth hands-free system, automatic headlights, and leather wrapped steering wheel. BBM will be making its way onto Dev Alpha devices later this month

As some of you guys have probably surmised by now, BBM to RIM is probably one of the key features that sets their products apart from the competition, so much so that despite it being an acronym for Blackberry Messenger, it has been inducted into the Collins English Dictionary. This is why we are interested to see how Blackberry 10 will handle BBM and if there will be more functionality added to the popular messaging service to keep it up to date with RIM’s latest Blackberry 10 operating system.

For Blackberry loyalists out there, it seems that BBM will be making its way onto the Dev Alpha handset later this month. Spell-check is one of the features that users can expect in the final version and this update to the Dev Alpha handset will allow developers to start creating BBM-connected apps or games. We’re not sure what sort of cool ideas developers will be able to come up with for BBM integration, but it will be most interesting to see how this turns out. So, who’s looking forward to getting their hands on Blackberry 10 devices next year?

Another Blackberry 10 L-series photo has leaked online

Another day, another Blackberry 10 L-series leak – alright perhaps not, but it looks like another L-series photo has been leaked. Unfortunately these leaks still show serial numbers on them which could suggest that they are merely test units and might not be the final design, but based on what we’ve seen, if these are merely test units, we can only imagine that the final version should look pretty good. In fact personally I wouldn’t mind using the version pictured in the photo above, what say you? Anyway the photo also reveals a battery door which means that Blackberry 10 hopefuls can rest assured in knowing that unlike the iPhone and certain Android devices, the battery is removable (read: replaceable). There also appears to be NFC which we guess isn’t too surprising. Either way with Blackberry Jam Americas coming up, hopefully RIM will have more details or photos to share, so stay tuned!

The Murderbox MK II computer case will cost you $1,200

For the budget gamer, spending $1,200 on a computer isn’t too bad and can get one a somewhat decent rig. It might not be able to run Crysis 2 on Ultra at 60fps, but it should get the job done if the parts are chosen wisely. The more serious gamer could spend a couple of thousand instead but most of the time, the money is spent on hardware like its graphics card, SSDs, custom cooling and whatnot. However if you have the cash to spare and want to build a custom gaming machine, then perhaps this PC gaming case dubbed the Murderbox MK II might be worth checking out.

Priced at a staggering $1,200 for the case alone, it’s most definitely murder on the wallets of many and would almost be sacrilege to fill it up with low or mid-ranged hardware. Made completely out of raw aluminum that has been mechanically etched and then anodized, the case is put together by hand to ensure that everything fits. It might be a bit redundant given that you’ll definitely need to take it apart to put in your components, but it’s good to know that testing has been done to ensure that everything is a perfect fit. Unfortunately only 499 units will be made so if you’ve got the money to spare, head on over to the Murderbox website to reserve one for yourself.

X-Rite unveils ColorMunki Smile color calibration solution

X-Rite has been peddling color calibration solutions for a long time in its ColorMunki line of products. The company has announced the addition of a new entry-level color calibration solution called the ColorMunki Smile. The device is aimed at hobbyists, design enthusiasts, gamers, and other users who want accurate and correct colors on their computer displays.

The Smile includes a color measurement device and simple software. The software is wizard-based and uses graphics and video animation so users only have to follow on-screen instructions for quick and easy color calibration. X-Rite says that users don’t need to know anything about color science to get quality results using the Smile.

The device uses the same color profile technology as the company’s professional color calibration products. The Smile will work on LED or LCD displays. The Smile allows users to calibrate multiple monitors accurately and the software automatically detects when multiple monitors are connected to a single Mac or PC to allow for color calibration on each screen.

The Smile connects to a computer via a USB port and supports both Windows and Mac computers. The device also supports multiple languages, including English, French, German, and Spanish. The Smile is available right now for $99.

Samsung starts producing faster 2GB LPDDR3 memory for mobile devices, 128GB flash storage too

Samsung announces new 2GB 30nmclass DRAM and 128GB mobile memory chips

While the scales may be steadily tipping towards mobile in the world of DRAM production, there’s still plenty of room for technological enhancements. To prove the point, Samsung has just started mass production of what it claims to be the first 2GB LPDDR3 DRAM chip for mobile, which can shuffle information in and out 1,600 Mbps (compared to its 1,066 Mbps LPDDR2 predecessor), with up to 12.8 GB/s of bandwidth. In addition, the manufacturer has also started mass production of a place to hold all of that lovely data, in the form of a 128GB mobile flash storage chip. When will you be able to buy a superphone sporting 2GB of RAM and 128GB of storage? We don’t know for sure, but even in the face of adversity all of the components seem to be falling into place.

Leica cameras have typically been more on the expensive side as we have seen today, so it wouldn’t be surprising if the company were to release a special and limited edition version, it would be just as expensive, if not more. Well for those who love their Leica and want to add another to their collection, the company has revealed a Paul Smith edition of the Leica X2. It is essentially the X2 camera under the hood but has been designed by Paul Smith, giving the camera a slightly more fashion-forward and edgier look.

For those who aren’t familiar with the X2, it features an APS-C format CMOS image sensor at 16.5MP and is combined with a Leica Elmarit 24mm f/2.8 ASPH lens. The camera can be switched between automatic or manual controls, depending on which the photographer prefers just to name some of its features. As Photokina is currently taking place, we guess it’s not surprising that new lenses are being announced and if you’re in the market for a new set of lens for your Sony camera, Sigma has unveiled a trio of A-mount lenses. First up is the 17-70mm f2.8-4 DC OS MACRO, which unlike the name implies, is a general purpose lens.
