Call of Duty Black Ops 2 MQ-27 Dragonfire drone passes the FCC

If you are an avid fan of Call of Duty: Black Ops II, then surely you would have seen the MQ-27 Dragonfire drone that is surely one of the more interesting vehicles in the game itself. This is an unmanned flying drone that makes an appearance when you participate in mission Protect P.O.T.U.S., where it will also see action in Strike Force missions and Multiplayer matches. Truth is stranger than fiction, and this time around, we have a remote controlled version of the MQ-27 Dragonfire drone making an appearance on the FCC after picking up collective nods of approval for it riding on the 2.4GHz wireless band. ICEdot crash sensor notifies your loved ones after bicycling accidents

Between powered gear shifters, electric motors and BMX-mounted mixers, bicycles just keep getting better — but no amount of technological augmentation can sidestep the old adage: safety first. Yes, the helmet is a classic and necessary accessory for cyclists, snowboarders and more. ICEdot and SenseTech hope to take the traditional brain bucket to new heights next year with a Bluetooth equipped crash sensor. Take a spill? The ICEdot sensor will take note of the impact and start a countdown on its companion app. If the rider doesn’t stop the timer before it reaches zero, ICEdot will notify emergency contacts with the user’s last known GPS location and data on the severity of the accident. The accessory doesn’t have a firm release date just yet, but it will make an appearance at the Interbike trade show later this month. Smartphone augmented safety will set you back about $200 when it launches next year. Check out the sensor’s teaser video after the break.

HTC One X 5 could be new HTC flagship

In slightly more than a day’s time, HTC will be unveiling what could very well be their spanking new flagship smartphone. What you see above is an alleged press shot of HTC’s 5” device, and in all probability, it will be christened as the HTC One X 5. Some of the rumored hardware specifications in the HTC One X 5 will include a quad-core Snapdragon S4 Pro chipset alongside a Full HD display (yes sir, we are talking about a 5” 1080p screen here), and should those specifications prove to be true, then it would definitely be one of the most powerful and better endowed Android-powered smartphones in the market.

All we need to do now is sit tight and wait for HTC to deliver what they have in mind at the New York City event when Wednesday rolls around.

We will be covering news from there as well, so stay tuned for additional updates. The battle of flagship devices are definitely heating up, and exciting times are still in store for the consumer. Hopefully the HTC One X 5, if revealed, will be able to roll out in time for the holiday season later this year.

Thor Hammer inspires NASA project for satellite deployment

We are quite sure that Chris Hemsworth has endeared himself to many people with his portrayal of Thor in the Avengers as well as his first Marvel movie, Thor. After all, who would want to turn down god-like powers not to mention having a bad-ass hammer that can be summoned at will, thrown at incredible speeds and distance, and cannot be lifted unless you are deemed as worthy?

Fiction plays the role of inspiration this time around with a NASA-funded plan that intends to use rockets along the same vein, throwing small satellites in the direction of other planets. Known as the NanoTHOR project, the ultimate aim is to hook up small satellites with upper rocket stages by using tethers that measure miles in length, allowing the rocket stages to spin the satellites around similar to how Thor does with his hammer.

NASA has given $100,000 from its Innovative Advanced Concepts program towards this idea, so that computer simulations and a hardware design can be figured out for real world action. The nanosatellites used will be known as CubeSats, and they are as small as the size of a loaf of bread, making me wonder what happens when the trajectory is calculated wrongly, or there is no way to tell that there will be one large obstacle coming in the way of the satellite to smash it into smithereens, but I guess this is what NASA’s brains are paid for, right?

Internet Explorer bug fix pushed to the masses

IE logoMicrosoft has strongly encouraged Windows users earlier this morning to install a free piece of security software which is said to be able to offer protection for PCs from a newly discovered bug that is making its rounds on those using the Internet Explorer browser. According to Microsoft, this particular security flaw is said to be able to enable hackers to take remote control of an infected computer. Since there are millions of Internet Explorer users out there, it would do well for IT administrators to do something about the situation in their respective office just to walk on the safe side.

This will be an interim measure, and make no mistake about it, Microsoft will definitely be working on fixing the bug in conjunction with a newer and more secure version of Internet Explorer. This security tool is a free download, where it is known as the Enhanced Mitigation Experience Toolkit, or EMET for short, and you can download it from Microsoft’s website.

Panasonic DL-P200 travel bidet (really)

Not everyone is able to afford a bidet attached to the porcelain throne, as there are far more economical ways of washing up after you are done with your toilet business, including using the humble rubber hose. The thing is, if you grew up using a bidet your entire life, it must be rather uncomfortable for you when you travel to other places that lack such a facility in their washrooms. (more…)

AOKP team posts giant update to its Jelly Bean build, allows rotation and tablet UI anywhere

Custom ROM fans will know AOKP (Android Open Kang Project), but the first build derived from Jelly Bean was knowingly rough around the edges. What a difference a month makes: along with the usual round of bug fixes, the team’s second build has added options to force screen rotation and the tablet interface on any device. Not-quite-so-early adopters also get fine-grained control over the interface DPI, LEDs, theming and vibration, and the device list has grown to include the Verizon Galaxy S III, the Galaxy Note and multiple variants of both the original Galaxy S and the Galaxy Tab family. If you were waiting to stay just short of the bleeding edge before trying AOKP, your version is ready.
