Samsung GT-i9260 could be Galaxy Nexus successor

At the end of last year, we took an in-depth look at the Samsung Galaxy Nexus, and less than a year later, we have what is probably the successor to the Samsung Galaxy Nexus, known by its model number as the Samsung GT-i9260 thanks to details revealed in the User Agent Profile. Of course, we are not ruling out the possibility of the Samsung GT-i9260 ending up as the Galaxy Nexus 2, Galaxy Nexus Plus or perhaps with a totally different naming convention like the Galaxy Premier. Just what about the upcoming Galaxy Nexus sequel do we know in terms of hardware specifications?

For starters, we are looking at a resolution count of 1280 x 720 that is similar to the existing Google flagship, sporting an ARM processor with whispers of a 1.5GHz dual-core A9 CPU, and 2GB RAM amongst others. What do you think the successor to the Samsung Galaxy Nexus will be called, and are you willing to hold off any future smartphone purchases until you see what Google’s new flagship has to offer compared to the Galaxy S3 and the iPhone 5?

Verizon Galaxy Nexus update fixes signal issues?

If you happen to be rocking to a Galaxy Nexus over on Verizon, are you one of those who did run into signal issues that did not allow you to stick to a 4G connection for more than just a handful of minutes before the connection dropped? That would be an extremely frustrating experience to say the least, and some folks actually went through not one, two, or three, but half a dozen replacement devices before the issue did not affect the handset. Having said this, is version I515.10 of the software on the device the culprit?

Best Buy thinks so, hoping that the software update which will be introduced to these devices in a couple of days’ time will fix this niggling issue. Having said that, do not get your hopes up that the upcoming update will be the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update, but rather, an interim software fix that will hopefully squash the signal issue bug.

ICEdot helmet calls for help when you fall

It goes without saying that one should always take the necessary safety precautions when cycling, such as wearing brightly colored clothes (or having a safety vest with reflective strips if you are cycling at night or early in the morning) as well as a helmet to protect your noggin’ in case you take a spill. Well, the ICEdot helmet plays further on the ICE (In Case of Emergency) concept by using Bluetooth connectivity to trigger the accompanying app on your smartphone whenever you fall, calling your emergency contact in the process. This sensor was specially programmed to determine that you are in an accident, figure out just how serious the accident is, while sending your GPS coordinates to your emergency contact.

Of course, what happens when you accidentally drop your helmet or just take a minor fall? Good thing the app itself comes with an emergency countdown, allowing you to manually abort the call so that no one else needs to worry unnecessarily. The ICEdot helmet is being developed by Sense Tech LLC, where it is targeting a 2013 release date for approximately $200 a pop.

Winklevoss Twins Invest In SumZero: Brothers Made Famous By Facebook Legal Fight Invest In Social Network: Report

NEW YORK (Reuters) – The Winklevoss twins, best known for their legal battle against Mark Zuckerberg over the founding of Facebook Inc, have invested in SumZero, a social network company aimed at professional investors, The Wall Street Journal said on Sunday.

Tyler and Cameron Winklevoss have put $1 million into SumZero, which was founded by fellow Harvard University alumni Divya Narendra and Aalap Mahadevia in 2008, the article said. Narendra was an ally to the Winklevoss twins during their lawsuit against Facebook, which won the brothers a cash and stock settlement valued at $65 million at a time when the company was valued at $15 billion.

Facebook’s market cap is currently valued at $47 billion.

In June 2011, the twins decided not to appeal to the U.S. Supreme Court a ruling upholding their $65 million settlement.

The 2008 accord was intended to resolve a feud over whether Zuckerberg stole the idea for what became the world’s most popular social networking website from the Winklevosses, who like him, had attended Harvard. Their battle was dramatized in the 2010 film “The Social Network.”

After agreeing to the cash-and-stock accord, the Winklevosses sought to undo it, saying it was fraudulent because Facebook hid information from them and that they deserved more money.

In February, the brothers formed Winklevoss Capital as a vehicle to invest their personal wealth. Their first investment in June was SumZero, which brings together investors to share trading ideas and research, the WSJ reported.

SumZero.com has 7,500 members and has parallels with the first versions of Facebook, including exclusivity.

The site also allows investors to become members only if they work on the “buy side.” SumZero defines that group as investment professionals at hedge funds, mutual funds and private-equity firms. Analysts from the “sell side” such as Wall Street banks are not allowed, the report said.

Boy Scouts Face Release Of Damaging Child Sex Abuse Files

By Chris Francescani

Sept 16 (Reuters) – The Boy Scouts of America could face a wave of bad publicity as decades of records of confirmed or alleged child molesters within the U.S. organization are expected to be released in coming weeks.

On Sunday, the Los Angeles Times reported the organization failed to report allegations of sex abuse of scouts by adult leaders and volunteers to police in hundreds of cases from 1970 to 1991. In some cases, the Boy Scouts helped the accused “cover their tracks,” the paper said.

The story was based on a review of 1,600 internal Boy Scouts case files the newspaper said it obtained that detailed accusations against confirmed or alleged child molesters within the youth organization.

About 1,200 “ineligible volunteer” files dating from 1965 to 1985 are set to be publicly released under a June order by the Oregon Supreme Court, including some already reviewed by the newspaper.

Those files played a key role in a 2010 civil trial in which an Oregon jury found the Boy Scouts liable in a 1980s pedophile case and ordered the organization to pay nearly $20 million in damages.

The files will be released within three to four weeks, said Paul Mones, one of the attorneys representing the plaintiff in the Oregon case.

In the wake of revelations about systemic child sex abuse within the Catholic Church and the recent Penn State sex abuse scandal, the files threaten to damage the reputation of one of America’s most trusted institutions.

Mones said the allegations revealed in the Oregon case are not necessarily comparable to the Catholic Church’s sex abuse scandal.

“In the Catholic Church there were overt cover-ups, and I don’t think you see a lot of that here with the Boy Scouts,” Mones told Reuters on Sunday.

The Boy Scouts of America said in a statement on Sunday that while it regrets past incidents where scouts were sexually abused, its current policies require even suspicions of abuse to be reported directly to law enforcement.

“The BSA (has) continuously enhanced its multi-tiered policies and procedures, which now include background checks, comprehensive training programs and safety policies,” the statement said.

The organization said it has maintained an internal “ineligible volunteer” file since at least 1919 to prevent suspected or confirmed child sex abusers from joining or re-entering its ranks.

Boy Scouts of America officials and attorneys have said the files represent only a fraction of the adults who participate as scout leaders each year.

The Boy Scouts have annually counted between 3.5 and 5 million scouts and more than 1 million adult leaders and volunteers among its members since the 1960s, a spokesman for the organization said.

The organization is facing more than 50 pending child sexual abuse cases in 18 states, according to Kelly Clark, another plaintiff attorney in the Oregon case.

Mones said he did not expect many new lawsuits to result from the upcoming release of the Scouts’ files, predicting that statutes of limitation on sex abuse charges in most U.S. states would prevent victims from successful civil or criminal prosecution of alleged molesters. iPhone 5 lines begin in New York four days prior

Four days before the iPhone 5 is sold in participating retail stores and we already have some New Yorkers starting to line up for the iPhone 5. Four days! I wonder how much productivity is lost in the respective offices that these New Yorkers hold because of a smartphone launch. This line refers to Apple’s flagship store on New York’s 5th Avenue, but four days might not be too early as CNET reported on a handful of followers who already started to queue since last Friday itself, which is one whole week prior to the iPhone 5’s release.

Needless to say, sleeping bags and collapsible chairs will be a common sight around the flagship Apple store in that part of the world. If you happen to be on the lookout for a new iPhone, would you be one of those who would be lining up as well? After all, online stocks are already sold out while hitting a new pre-order record within an hour, and estimated shipping times of the iPhone 5 was also pushed back by a couple of weeks.

More Oppo Find 5 details divulged

More than a week ago, we took a look at the Oppo Find 5 phablet, where we did mention that it will come with a 441 ppi display (weighing in at 5” and having 1920 x 1080 resolution), accompanied by Android 4.1 Jelly Bean as the mobile operating system of choice, not to mention the Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 processor. Well, there are more details to the Oppo Find 5 that we will look at today. Oppo already has laid claim to having the world’s thinnest smartphone and the world’s thinnest quad core smartphone, and now they want to stake their claim on the “world’s first 1080p smartphone”.

Other rumored specifications will include 2GB RAM (similar to certain variants of the Galaxy S3), accompanied by a 12-megapixel rear camera which is accompanied by a 2-megapixel camera in front that would work great for vanity shots, sporting 16GB or 32GB of internal memory as well as a 2,500mAh battery pack to keep it going. The thing is, there is still no word on pricing or availability, so we will just need to be patient and wait.

Alleged Verizon Galaxy Note 2 gets pictured

What you see above is not exactly the clearest images of the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 that has been pictured in the while, and at the back you are able to make out the Verizon logo and name without mistaking it for a different mobile carrier. Well, we already know that the Galaxy Note 2 has been confirmed for T-Mobile in the US, with the rumors of a Dual SIM Galaxy Note 2 in the pipeline, so why not add to the merry family of Samsung’s latest phablet?

What you see above might not be the real deal due to it being a Photoshop job, but needless to say, we will not really know until Verizon releases an official confirmation on the device itself. At the back, as mentioned above, does show off the “Verizon 4G LTE” logo, which will point towards the fact that it will run on Verizon’s hyperfast LTE network. No idea on when it will be sold in retail stores, so stay tuned.
