LG press invite teases Qualcomm quad-core excellence

If you’re ready for the next generation of Qualcomm processor-packing smartphone action, LG has you covered – a press invite has been sent out teasing us all with the future ability to “live without boundaries.” This event will very likely be showing off the LG Optimus G here in the United States, complete with the Qualcomm quad-core Snapdragon S4 APQ8064. This processor takes the excellence of the dual-core S4 we’ve seen in devices like the HTC One series and the Samsung Galaxy S III (in the USA) and boosts up the power with double the CPU architecture – beastly!

The LG Optimus G is a device that’s been confirmed not only to exist but to be working with the processor mentioned above. This device’s design looks rather similar to the final form of the LG Intuition – a device we’re reviewing right this minute – including a rubbery back and a single speaker grill as well as a corner-sitting camera lens. This device appears rather simple otherwise, save for the in-cell touch technology, of course.

In-cell touch allows the device’s touchscreen technology and the display to be integrated into one unit, allowing the whole device to be much thinner. This smartphone uses a tiny 3mm bezel for near edge-to-edge display action, with the display being a True HD (1280 x 768 pixel resolution) IPS+ LCD. Fabulousness is ready here soon in the USA one way or another, but the device has already been announced else where too – NTT Docomo in Japan and on unnamed carriers in Korea as well.

Check our LG Optimus G timeline below and stay tuned on the 19th of this month for more information on LG’s next generation of smartphone power!

Intel’s Core i3 NUC mini-boards set to hit market in October, power up hobbyists and OEMs

Intel's Core i3 NUC miniboards set to hit market in October, power up enthusiast projects

Intel has finalized the specs of its Next Unit of Computing (NUC) board, and announced it’ll go on sale in October for less than $400 with a case and power supply. Carrying a 4 x 4-inch form factor between a Raspberry Pi and mini-ITX board, it’ll be equipped with a Core i3 Ivy Bridge processor, HD 4000 graphics, two SoDIMM sockets, an mSATA slot for an SSD drive, three USB ports, one HDMI port and a mini-PCI slot for wireless connectivity. Two different models will be offered by the chip giant, identical except that one will be Thunderbolt equipped and the other will sport an Ethernet port for connectivity. Originally intended for the kiosk and signage markets, enthusiast interest compelled Intel to put the board on general sale, along with a case (pictured above) and power supply option. That’ll pit it against offerings from VIA and others, while offering considerably more oomph in a similar form factor — though a mini-server slaying Core i5 option originally proposed by Intel was dropped.

PowerSkin offers NFC-enabled Galaxy S3 case

PowerSkin has just introduced what they deem to be a first in the world, a NFC-enabled case for the Samsung Galaxy S3. Specially designed for Samsung’s flagship smartphone, it debuts today while carrying patent-pending technology that enables NFC transmission in order to pass through the silicone case, delivering the option for quick information sharing along the way. It has a 1,500 mAh rechargeable battery just like most of the other PowerSkin cases which can extend the talk time by up to 2.83 hours and up to 97 hours standby.

There is an On/Off button that is located on the side to deliver power on demand, while its Smart Power Management feature shuts the PowerSkin off whenever the Galaxy S3 is fully charged, so that power use is optimized. Each $79.99 purchase will come with a cable for data synchronization when recharging, and the LED battery lights inform you of the current charging status.

Ergo Electronics outs trio of budget-friendly GoTab GTi slates in the UK

Ergo Electronics outs trio of budgetfriendly GTi tablets in the UK, starting at 79

It would appear that a handful of tablet manufacturers want to take a piece of Apple’s marketshare pie by tempting consumers with low-priced slabs. And, well, such is the case with small UK company Ergo Electronics. The Euro outfit recently introduced a trifecta of relatively economical GoTab GTi tablets; two of which come pre-loaded with Ice Cream Sandwich and one with Google’s 4.1 treat. For starters, the top-of-the-line, Jelly Bean-loaded GTi97 boasts a 9.7-inch, IPS display alongside a dual-core, 1.6GHz RK3066 CPU and 1GB of RAM. Meanwhile, the GTi8 (8-inch) and GTi7 (7-inch) are both designed to be “super portable and lightweight,” though the GTi8 packs a heavier punch thanks to a “high resolution” 160 ppi screen, same amount of RAM as its GTi97 cousin and a single-core, 1.2GHz CPU. Ergo Electronics is pricing these starting at £79 (around $128), with availability expected to be later this holiday season across the United Kingdom.

Diablo 3 patch 1.0.5 preview

Earlier this month, we read about how patch 1.0.5 for Diablo 3 will help fix the Trail of Cinders, but slightly more than a week later, here we are with a sneak peek as to what patch 1.0.5 will be able to deliver for gamers in Diablo 3 when it arrives. One of the major feature changes include Defensive Skill Changes that is said to alter defensive skills across the board, but that is not all there is to it as it will simultaneously reduce incoming damage as well. The net result? A survivability buff for players, in addition to an increase in build options as folks can take more risks without building up what was once thought to be defensive abilities . After all, isn’t the best defence a fantastic offence?

Macaroni And Cheese: Twists On The Classic (PHOTOS)

Macaroni and cheese is the only reason we’re okay with the fact that summer doesn’t last forever. It’s just not as fun to eat hot, melted cheese and pasta when it’s 90 degrees outside. And we really hate it when something gets in between us and our mac ‘n cheese, even if that something offers the promise of warmth, sunshine and beach time.

Whether macaroni and cheese is plain, truffled or lobstered, it’s hard to get enough. Of course, you need to know how to make it rich and creamy, but once you’ve got that down you can dig into these 24 recipes without one lament over summer’s absence.

Romney Campaign Ad Accuses Obama Of Failing American Manufacturing

Mitt Romney is out with a new television ad attacking President Barack Obama for failing to crack down on China for unfair trade practices and accusing him of overseeing a major decline in America’s manufacturing might.

The spot, titled “Failing America’s Workers,” fits with the theme Romney emphasized earlier on in the campaign, before he went off on various tangents and started tackling non-economic topics. Obama, it goes, has dramatically mismanaged the economy.
