Stanford Organics Study: Have Faulty Methods, Political Motivations Threatened Kids’ Health?

It offered all the ingredients for a highly clickable news story: an elite university, a reputable scientific journal, surprising results and a conclusion that would be welcomed by many.

There’s no need to spend extra money buying organic at the grocery store, suggested the Stanford University press release, which stated that a university team’s review of scientific literature published last Tuesday “did not find strong evidence that organic foods are more nutritious or carry fewer health risks than conventional alternatives.”

“They did a good job in their press release,” said John Reganold, a crop and soil scientist at Washington State University. “No difference would get a lot of press.”

Artist Skywrites the First Thousand Digits of Pi over San Francisco [Video]

Any eyes in San Francisco that weren’t focused on Apple’s announcements yesterday might have noticed something peculiar in the skies over the Bay area. As part of the ZERO1 Biennial—a months long festival celebrating the coming together of art and technology—an artist known only as Ishky used several planes to skywrite the first 1,000 digits of Pi over the city, in a piece cleverly (and obviously) titled Pi in the Sky. CoPilot Live gets Apple Maps integration

The iPhone 5’s announcement yesterday did prove to be rather underwhelming for some, where one of the updates include Apple’s Maps, which is Cupertino’s new proprietary mapping and navigation app that will make sure that iPhone users will not miss Google Maps on iOS too much. In conjunction with the iPhone 5’s 4” display, CoPilot Live has been specially optimized for the taller display for an incredible widescreen navigation experience. Just in case anyone missed the memo, CoPilot Live has been integrated with Apple’s Maps in iOS 6. If you are a CoPilot Live user, you can find and select a location on Apple’s Maps, followed by using CoPilot’s offline, voice-guided, turn-by-turn GPS guidance to arrive at your destination safe and sound.

Similar to the rest of CoPilot apps, maps will be stashed away on the phone so that you can always refer to it whenever you are lost without having to have another worry at the back of your mind to find a Wi-Fi hotspot or head to a place with 3G or LTE connectivity. Do expect CoPilot’s latest effort that is iPhone 5 compatible to come in the form of a free app in due time.

Mionix introduces new SARGAS and ENSIS gaming mousepads with S.Q.A.T.

Your gaming mouse don’t mean S.Q.A.T – wait a minute here, there seems to be a missing “U” here. All right, let us start from the top again, Mionix has introduced a couple of new high performance gaming mousepads under the SARGAS and ENSIS ranges that will feature Mionix’s very own Surface Quality Analyser Tool, otherwise known as S.Q.A.T. Just what is S.Q.A.T. able to deliver? Well, it has been incorporated into the Mionix NAOS 5000 gaming mouse, where it is fully capable of measuring data loss between images of the surface taken by the mouse sensor. Data obtained from S.Q.A.T. will be rated on a scale of 1 to 10, where a low number represents a higher data loss and vice versa. Mousepads that have a rating of 8 or more are deemed to offer no tracking loss and improved accuracy, at least in Mionix’s books.

The has led Mionix to introduce the ENSIS and SARGAS lines, where the former is made out of super fine aluminium alloy with a 2mm low profile and super smooth surface, making it the high end range from Mionix. As for the SARGAS range, it has an uncoated mousepad surface that delivers a smooth controlled friction glide with added agility regardless of the game genre you are in love with. [Press Release]

HTC One X+ with Tegra 3 makes appearance at FCC, boasts AT&T LTE

HTC One X makes appearance at FCC

In contrast to the Sony Xperia T, HTC’s latest device just hit the FCC without offering many details — but fortunately we have a pretty good idea of what it is anyway. Identified as the PM63100, we’ve seen this particular model show up on benchmark results as the HTC One X+, a rumored revision of the current flagship. As you may recall, the benchmark claims that the One X+ features a Tegra 3 quad-core processor clocked at 1.7GHz. Happily, the FCC-approved phone also throws in LTE connectivity (sporting AT&T-friendly bands 4 and 17 in addition to 2 and 5), fulfilling NVIDIA’s self-made prophecy that we would see Tegra 3 devices with the next-gen tech by the end of 2012. Sadly, the federal docs don’t show us much more than what you see above, but it’s an indication that we may not have to wait too much longer to learn more.
