LG’s Sera Park has been talking about her latest handset, the Optimus G, and how it carries the DNA of its Chocolate and Prada phones from way back when. One of the aims was to build a display that was seamless with the rest of its unibody construction, so that it “floats in your hand,” as you use it. It also banished all front-side decoration, but compensated by adding a crystal reflection method to bling up the back. Of course, we wouldn’t be surprised if the clip was timed to appear as a timely reminder to those sensitive about design that LG certainly can’t be accused of following a trend. The company isn’t letting people embed the video, so if you’d like to watch her wax lyrical about rectangles, you’ll have to head on down to the source link.

Apple’s conference was full of small and big announcements and very dense. Between the announcements of the iPhone 5 and the updated iPod line-up, it is hard to keep track of all the details. It is now time to look back and read our coverage of what Apple showed to the press today.
The iPhone 5
Of course, the biggest announcement was the unveiling of the iPhone 5. The rumors were true — the device sports a 4-inch display, comes with a new dock connector called Lightning (adapters are available), LTE and 802.11n dual-channel 5GHz Wi-Fi and a nano-SIM slot.
It will be available on September 21 for $199 for 16GB, $299 for 32GB or $399 for 64GB — pre-orders open on Friday. Previous iPhone models will be sold at $99 or even given away with a two-year contract. Read the hands-on and watch Apple’s video.
New iPod Touch
The iPod Touch was updated as well to keep the device on par with the latest iPhone. It uses the same 4-inch screen and powerful system on a chip but is at the same time the thinnest and lightest iPod Touch ever produced. Like the iPod Nano, the device now comes with several color options — grey, black, blue, green, and red. Read all the details and the hands-on.
New iPod nano
The iPod nano was updated as well with a bigger screen. Once again, the iPod nano is Apple’s playground for testing new designs. They are not afraid of changing everything with each generation. Read all the information and our hands-on.
EarPods
EarPods are the new Apple earbuds. An update was highly overdue and it’s available now. If you want to know how they sound, read our first impressions after trying them.
Software
iOS 6 will be available for iPhone and iPod Touch owners on September 19. Even though we already knew a lot about the new operating system, new features were announced, such as panoramic photos and time-shifted GameCenter. But the most important changes are under the hood. Unoptimized apps will run letterboxed. Read about Facebook integration.
On the desktop, iTunes will be completely redesigned with iCloud built-in and Ping was quietly killed.
Numbers
As with every keynote, Apple gave us a few impressive numbers to make the company shine. It sold 84 million iPads, 400 million iOS devices and more laptops than any other manufacturer. 83 million people visited at least one of the 380 Apple retail stores in the world. 700,000 apps are now available in the App Store. Even more important, 90 percent of them are downloaded every month.
But don’t take our word for it and watch the video of the event and see what Jim Dalrymple, John Gruber and others had to say.
Whew – what a day! For those who missed it, Apple held its big event today, revealing the iPhone 5 and new versions of the of the iPod Touch and the iPod Nano. You can see most of the day’s news in our iPhone 5 event wrap-up and our iPod Touch and Nano wrap-up, but of course, even more news about these new iDevices hit after those event wrap-ups were posted. For instance, we went hands-on with the iPhone 5 and then later with the 5th generation iPod Touch before getting the chance to check out Apple’s new EarPods, which have undergone a redesign just in time for the launch of the iPhone 5. If you’re more of an iPod Nano kind of person, then you’ll be pleased to know that we also have you covered in our hands-on with the 7th generation iPod Nano.
Later on in the day, Apple announced pricing for its new Lightning connector adapters (which can get a little steep in places), and released the iOS 6 Golden Master seed for developers ahead of the operating system’s release on September 19. A full list of iPhone 5 specs made it to the Apple Store this afternoon, and we found out that the iPhone 5 will offer both a GSM and CDMA version. iTunes 10.7 was delivered this afternoon as well, as was a gallery of iLuv’s upcoming iPhone 5 products. Toward the end of the day, Apple released a video featuring Jony Ive and Bob Mansfield giving us an introduction to the iPhone 5, and we ask where the iPhone 5′s rumored NFC functionality went.
As big as Apple’s event was, it wasn’t the only thing worth writing about today. A new report suggests that Windows Phone 8 may not be as far along as we thought, and Foxconn is in the public eye again after an undercover worker published a report on the conditions at the now-famous factory. Google was touting the latest Android numbers today, saying that 500 million Android devices have been activated worldwide.
We actually had quite a few stories about NASA today, with the Mars Orbiter finding signs of dry ice snowfall on the surface of the Red Planet. NASA scientists have viewed a massive impact on the surface of Jupiter, and perhaps most importantly, NASA celebrated the 50th anniversary of President John F. Kennedy’s historic moon speech. Famous (or infamous, depending on whether or not you work for the RIAA) music sharer Jammie Thomas has lost her appeal, meaning that the court is still making her pay that whopping $220,000 fine, and finally tonight, Microsoft has been awarded a patent for an interesting new technology that makes us immediately think of Star Trek.
That does it for tonight’s Evening Wrap-Up. Be sure to have a look at our Apple portal to catch anything you might have missed from Apple’s presentation, but otherwise, enjoy the rest of your evening!

We’ve seen several Pac-Man tables over the years, and all of them are neat in their own ways. This one keeps things classy with a modern look and color matching chairs.
This arcade inspired table was made by master woodworker Thanasis Mokas who apparently has a case of Pac-Man fever, which is driving him crazy. The textured game scene sits beneath a sheet of glass and even comes with four stools in familiar game colors. I’m not sure why, maybe it’s the colors (or the lack of white eyeballs on the ghosts), but this one reminds me of the Atari 2600 version of the game, but better.
You wouldn’t think that this game would look good in wood, but it looks pretty awesome. I would love to own one of these tables for myself.
iPhone 5 held back by… dogma
Posted in: Today's ChiliToday, Apple unveiled its long awaited iPhone 5, a device that was highly rumored so the new features were not a surprise, at all. During the time where those leaks happened, the main friction points that we have noticed among commenters were the display size and the prospect that battery life would not be increased significantly because of the thinness (7.6mm, which is impressive).
In an ultra-competitive race where super large displays (see any other successful high-end smartphones like the HTC One X, Samsung Galaxy S3 and the new Galaxy Note 2), uber-cameras (see the new Nokia Lumia 920), incredible battery capacities (like the Razr Maxx HD), and amazing new features (see Samsung S-pen capabilities) are unveiled every week, we wonder why Apple has not committed to maintain the wow factor of the iPhone, because the company could easily do it.
