13 Features the iPhone 5 Definitely Won’t Have [Iphone 5]

Everyone is going crazy over all the new features that are being “confirmed” by Apple’s website. And sure, that’s fun, but we thought we’d do you one better. Instead of just telling you what will be in the iPhone 5, here’s a list of what’s been left on the cutting room floor. More »

Sony Cyber-shot RX1 Camera Price, Specs, and Release Date Confirmed

Last week, we came across a leaked image of Sony’s purported new high-end, full-frame camera, the Cyber-shot RX1. Well, Sony has confirmed the launch of the new camera, and it’s quite an impressive (if expensive) little bit of digital imaging technology.

Well it turns out that everything we knew about the camera at the time was correct, and now we have complete details and specs in hand from Sony themselves. Priced at $2799.99(USD), the RX1 is clearly targeted at serious digital photophiles. The palm-sized digicam offers a full-frame 35mm Exmor CMOS sensor, capturing still images at 24.3 megapixels. It can store images in full 14-bit RAW mode, and offers complete manual control. ISO range is rated from 100-25600, and it looks like it can capture awesome images in low light.

Perhaps the most controversial feature of the RX1 is its fixed lens. It’s got an f/2.0 Carl Zeiss Sonnar T lens with 9 aperture blades, and has a macro mode for amazing up-close images. A high-speed auto-focus system can get images in focus in as little as 0.13 seconds.

In addition to still image capture, the RX1 can shoot full 1920×1080 video in 60p, 50p or 24p frame rates, stored in AVCHD format. It also supports direct MP4 capture, but only at 1440×1080 at 30 or 25 fps. Here’s some sample footage from the RX1, but for some odd reason, they only uploaded it to YouTube in 720p resolution. It still looks great, but I’d like to see some full 1080/60p or 1080/24p footage.

The camera also has a built-in pop-up flash, and a hot-shoe for accessories like a full-size flash or external viewfinder. On the back is a 3″ LCD screen with a super-sharp 1.2 million pixel resolution, and optimized for daylight viewing. It’s also got a handy feature – a digital level – so you can make sure you’re getting perfectly level shots when you set up your tripod. In addition to the full manual control, the RX1 offers Intelligent Auto mode, SteadyShot image stabilization, face detection, auto HDR, effects and sweep panorama modes. Though if you’re resorting to such features, you’re probably not the target audience for this high-end camera.

The Cyber-shot RX1 will be released on or about 12/19/2012, and you can pre-order the camera over at the Sony Store now.

Infinity Blade: Dungeons speculated for release today following discounts on Infinity Blade and Infinity Blade 2

Earlier this year, Epic Games revealed Infinity Blade: Dungeons, a game from the Infinity Blade franchise but the difference being that it played more like an action RPG. Unfortunately there has not been any mention of a release date, but thanks to recent discounts on Infinity Blade and Infinity Blade 2, some are speculating that Infinity Blade: Dungeons could be launched later today alongside the iPhone 5. Typically during Apple’s events, they select a handful of developers to showcase apps that have been optimized to run on their new products, and what better way than with Infinity Blade: Dungeons, right? In any case if you’ve been meaning to get the previous two Infinity Blade games, they are available from the iTunes App Store and are priced at a very affordable $0.99 and $2.99 respectively. However if Infinity Blade: Dungeons is a game you’re looking forward to, check back with us in a few hours to see if the speculators have it right!

Resident Evil director interested in turning Monster Hunter into a movie

We’re sure that many gamers out there would love to see their favorite game turned into a Hollywood movie, or maybe not, depending on who the director is. Well if you’ve enjoyed the Resident Evil franchise so far, you might be interested to learn that Paul W.S. Anderson might be interested in turning Monster Hunter into a movie. When the director of the upcoming Resident Evil: Retribution movie was asked in an interview with Cinema Today as to which video game he would like to make into a movie, he replied by saying, “Recently, I’ve been loving Monster Hunter. A film conversion is currently in planning.” It is unclear as to whether the planning refers to something he’s doing on his own time or if there are studios in Hollywood who have picked it up already. Either way what do you guys think? Would Monster Hunter translate well into a Hollywood blockbuster movie? Or are some video games best left alone?

TARDIS Trash Can: for Doctor Oscar the Grouch

Looking for a trash can that’ll take your garbage to another time and space? Or how about one that’s way bigger on the inside? This trash can’t do any of that. That’s what your imagination is for.

To help you make up stories about the adventures of your leftover food and scratch paper, the trash can has a police light that turns on when you open the lid. It will then play the dematerializing sound effect when the lid closes.

Proof that it’s not bigger on the inside:

What this trash can can do is make a lot of your money disappear, never to be seen again. ThinkGeek is selling it for a whopping $90 (USD).

Impossible Instant Lab offers Polaroid stills from your iPhone snaps

The Impossible Project isn’t content with restarting Polaroid’s abandoned instant film production; it also has a Kickstarter, offering a decidedly odd-looking way of getting instant prints from your iPhone. Rather than plugging in via the dock connector, as we’ve seen other mobile printers do, the Impossible Instant Lab takes an altogether more accordion-like approach, basically slapping the iPhone on top of a modified Polaroid camera base.

A collapsable bellows-style assembly extends, to sit your iPhone – or, indeed, any other smartphone with a sizable display – on top. At the bottom there’s a manual shutter and the guts of a Polaroid camera: to use it, you load up the Instant Lab app, pick the photo you want a hard copy of, and slide open the shutter.

There’s a signal to indicate when the exposure – powered only by the phone’s own backlight – is ready, and then it’s a case of closing the shutter and pushing the button; the photo itself is spat out the front. The battery is doog for up to 150 shots, and you can use Polaroid 600 and SX 70 film.

Although it seems a bit gimmicky, it’s obviously found appeal with enough Kickstarter backers: they’ve already pushed it past the $250,000 goal by more than $55k, with 25 days left to run. Mass production should start in mid-February 2013, and the retail price will be $299.

Neo Geo X handheld gets standalone $130 price tag

If you wanted to relive your past arcade glories, but weren’t looking for a whole peripheral package, the Neo Geo X is now going to let you do that. While the forthcoming handheld was expected to arrive bundled with nostalgia-tinged hardware, a lower-priced solo handheld is also on the cards. Priced at $130, the makers aren’t divulging any more detail on 4.3-inch handheld’s precise launch date, but we’d guess that the single unit will match the pricier bundle’s December launch date.
