Motorola and Intel have released a new teaser ahead of their presentation next week in London. The teaser is just that – a video that features a whole lot of nothing and is meant to get the tech crowd amped up for next week’s reveal. The teaser promises things like “edge-to-edge speed” and “edge-to-edge power,” which makes it pretty easy to guess what the companies are building up to.
That would be the international release of the freshly-revealed DROID RAZR M, which comes sporting a 4.3-inch edge-to-edge AMOLED Display. Intel’s in on this tease because the international RAZR M will have an Intel Medfield processor running the show. That’s in comparison to Verizon’s version of the DROID RAZR M, which has an S4 Snapdragon processor under the hood.
In other words, Intel’s dual-core Medfield processor will be less powerful than Qualcomm’s Snapdragon S4. Our friends at Android Community point out that while it’s disappointing to hear that the international version of the DROID RAZR M won’t be as powerful as the model on display here in the US, this is definitely a step in the right direction for Intel. Have a look at the teaser trailer below.
See? There wasn’t all that much of note present in the trailer. Also, keep in mind that while we’re pretty sure that Motorola and Intel are teasing the international DROID RAZR M, nothing’s for sure until it has been officially revealed at their event, which is going down on September 18. That’s exactly one week away from today, so we’ll be finding out what Intel and Motorola are teasing soon. Stay tuned.
Nokia recently unveiled two of its new flagship smartphones, Lumia 820 and Lumia 920 PureView. Both devices run Windows Phone 8 and are geared at richer markets since they are expected to carry a rather sizeable price tag. However, Nokia also plans to sustain its presence in the developing markets.
And for that purpose, it may be planning to release a few Windows Phone 7.5 handsets soon. These handsets will naturally feature rather modest hardware and will come with such price tags as would be affordable for the users in the developing countries. (more…)
Xcom Global has been busy carving out a reputation as the world traveler’s best friend, but that globetrotter has always had to make do with 3G even if there was 4G back home. As of September 20th, frequent roamers of the sort will have access to LTE when abroad — at least, if they’re planning a trip to the Land of the Rising Sun. A deal between Xcom and EMOBILE will let visitors to Japan get up to 75Mbps by renting a Huawei GL01P hotspot to the tune of $18 a day, up slightly from Xcom’s usual $15. The pocket router won’t work in other countries, but it will supply dual-carrier HSPA+ 3G if travelers wander outside of the fastest coverage areas. Not planning a trip to Osaka? We’re told Xcom plans to expand its LTE option to Europe at some point in the future, starting with the UK — good timing, that.
In less than 24 hours we’ll be liveblogging the Apple event that will almost certainly play host to the new iPhone 5 – what we’re doing here is preparing you for the event with everything we’ve seen thus far. What you’re going to see with the iPhone 5 event that commences tomorrow (September 12th) at 10AM PST at the Yerba Buena Center is the smartphone itself, complete with details unknown but tipped and leaked to high heavens – of course there’s no telling if anything we’ve seen yet is real or true without final confirmation from Apple, but let’s have a look anyway!
One of the first things Apple will be looking out for during this event outside the proceedings is a Samsung booby-trap with LTE patents galore. HTC might also be coming for them. Analysts have been projecting that this release will spur 10 million unit sales for the new product alone in September.
The images you see above and below are all renders as created by a talented designer/artist/rendered by the name of Martin Urecht. They were made several weeks ago but remain as accurate as ever, matching several supposed leaked photos of parts from all angles. Note that the iPhone 5 here is shown in a couple of color combinations too – also more than likely accurate.
One big CERTAINTY we’ve got is the fact that the next iPhone will be running iOS 6 which we’ve covered extensively in it’s pre-release phase here since WWDC 2012. Check out our WWDC 2012 tag as well for more information on the software end of things – check the 80-second greatest hits video above to see the key points from the event, too – iOS 6 is on the way!
The iPhone 5 has been tipped to be carrying a much larger battery than ever before so it can support 4G LTE drain. The new smartphone will likely use a Nano SIM card. There’s a set of updated earbuds in the mix as well (slightly different from above.)
T-Mobile is reportedly ramping up for the event – though they’ll probably not be doing it with the iPhone 5 – they’re aiming for unlocked counterparts galore. The release date for the iPhone 5 has been tipped as September 21st for in-store sales. The iPhone 5 will likely have a 4-inch display and thinner body while its width remains the same. You’ll want to see some HD photos and video of the device – or just the display, that is – before you jump on in.
There’s also word that there’ll be an iPod touch with boosted Retina display and a slightly more powerful processor under the hood – not to mention a brand new dock connector. Several sources have reported iMacs and Retina MacBook Pro 13-inch models heading out from suppliers now as well. The iPad mini looms as well, but is much more likely going to be revealed in October instead of here in September. The Apple Thunderbolt Display may be coming with a refresh here at tomorrows event as well.
The good news: Google will be sponsoring 4,000 Boingo hotspots through the end of the month. That’s a lot of Wi-Fi! The bad news: It looks like only devices that have direct Google Play access—Android phones, Macs, and PCs—will benefit. Which, hey is Google’s prerogative. But it’s also a very different Google from the one we used to know. More »
The internet makes everything weirder. It’s no surprise, then, that one of the first kids shows to get picked up after a viral YouTube video was Adventure Time, one of the most bizarre shows to ever grace cable television. Adventure Time’s effortless weirdness is a sharp contrast to Cartoon Network’s Adult Swim shows, which always seem like they’re trying too hard. The characters in Adventure Time aren’t. They’re sweet, they’re naive, and they’re more than a bit silly. They actually act and sound like kids. More »
If you don’t know someone on Facebook, it is probably not a good idea to add them up. It is worst still if you add up unknown people and keep a lot of personal data on your profile. In many cases, it can lead to very adverse consequences.
It has now been found out that Taliban are making use of Facebook to connect up with military personnel deployed in Afghanistan. They do so by creating fake profiles and putting up display pics of hot girls. Specifically, these fake profiles had been targeting Australian soldiers, trying to add them up and gather their personal information. (more…)
Active bodies are constantly on the move. And music is certainly a motivator. Running, walking, hiking, biking – they all improve with the right tunes (or podcasts). Most of us have gotten into the earbud or headphone mode. And they are fine, to some extent. But I think any earbud wearer has been in one of these situations: 1) You are in a zone, listening to your music and step or ride out into traffic only to have a near miss with a car, 2) Walking across campus and someone – unbeknownst to you – is running after you shouting your name in an attempt to get your attention, 3) Walking with a friend, who doesn’t have tunes, and you want to share yours.
So what is a good solution? Try the Sonic Walk from XSories. This $99.99 strapped contraption contains two 1.5W speakers, an input and a storage space for your player or smartphone. So rather than depending on your earbuds or headphones simply plug in, store your player and hear and share your tunes. The neoprene and spandex straps create a comfortable fit that won’t weigh you down. Recharge the unit after running it down and you are back in business.
Rather than risking your life with your ears plugged by buds or in order to share the tunes with those hiking, biking, running or just walking with you check out the Sonic Walk.
…and by ace I mean a Mega Buster. This rockin’ Rockman (aka Mega Man) hoodie is a collaboration between Capcom and Japanese apparel company Punk Drunkers. It has lots of references to the blue bomber, but its main trick is its left sleeve, which when rolled up reveals a textile replica of Mega Man’s staple weapon.
The hood obviously resembles Mega Man’s helmet, the pockets are a nod to the Energy Tank and there’s a stitching of pixelated Mega Man at the back.
You can pre-order the hoodie from Punk Drunkers for ¥14,700 (approx. $190 (USD)); they’ll start shipping this October. I’m not sure if they’ll accept international orders, but if not there are still ways around that.
