The Environmental Working Group, a non-profit organization focused on environment and public health, recently came out with their Cleaners Hall of Shame list. With products containing carcinogens, asthma instigators, and poisons, some sparkly cleaners might come at a high price.
According to the press release:
Just 7 percent of cleaning products adequately disclosed their contents. To uncover what’s in common household cleaners, EWG’s staff scientists spent 14 months scouring product labels and digging through company websites and technical documents. EWG staff reviewed each ingredient against 15 U.S. and international toxicity databases and numerous scientific and medical journals.

Watch Two Planes Collide, Get Stuck Together in Mid-Air and Somehow Separate Before Landing Safely [Video]
Posted in: Today's Chili If I was a pilot and I saw a plane headed straight toward me, I’d figure I was doomed. If I was a pilot and I saw a plane stuck to my own plane, I’d figure we were both doomed. Luckily for these two pilots in Holland, who hit each other in mid-air and then found themselves stuck to one another, they managed to pull away from each other and land safely on the beach. Amazing. Meizu MX Review (Quad-core)
Posted in: Today's ChiliMost people in the USA have never heard of Meizu, and that’s because it is a Chinese company that has not yet entered the U.S market. However, they have made a name for themselves abroad by launching this cute quad-core phone: the Meizu MX.
The name stands for “M10″ and it was unveiled in December of 2011, then was launched several times in 2012 in a dual-core, then quad-core version. It had people lined up in front of stores, so we were really curious to get our hands on one. For some of you, this will be your first introduction to Meizu. For others, this review will bring additional details about the Meizu MX. But all of you should pay attention: this company is rising fast. (more…)

Those clanking noises you heard on Friday afternoon were the heavy doors of safes swinging open, rousing their treasures in velvet boxes from summer’s long hibernation. Parures of diamonds, sapphires, rubies, and pearls awoke to alight upon throats and wrists and lobes which had been readied to receive them. Skin had been scrubbed, hair had been heightened, gowns had been gathered in eager anticipation of their arrival. They were preparing for a glistening night on our glamorous town, where they would cast a luminous glow amongst the luminaries assembled for the Opera Ball. Even after ninety years, the thrill of opera’s Opening Night was palpable.

Confirmed: AT&T offers complimentary unlock of in-contract iPhones for deployed military personnel
Posted in: Today's ChiliFinally. A bit of closure. AT&T has confirmed the long-lived speculation of its policy to unlock in-contract iPhones for our military men and women deployed overseas. To qualify for the complimentary service, active military members must have an account in good standing and provide the carrier with deployment verification — that’s it, no other hoops to jump through.
The revelation was made today as part AT&T’s new Device Unlock Portal, which allows off-contract iPhone owners to apply online to have their handsets unlocked. Previously, this unlock service was available only through the carrier’s retail outlets, online chat support or by dialing 611. As a quick rehash of the non-military policy, all users — either current or former AT&T subscribers — must have completed their contractual obligations to AT&T, and the phone cannot be flagged as lost or stolen. All those eligible should certainly apply for the service, as an unlocked iPhone is infinitely more useful when traveling abroad — a reality that deployed military members know all too well.

When you say “Electronic Arts” and “Valve” in the same sentence, most gamers will likely point to the digital distribution tussle currently going on between the two. Electronic Arts wants its platform, Origin, to become one of Steam‘s biggest competitors, and Origin has garnered a lot of negative comments in the past couple of years because of that. Valve and Electronic Arts have always had a seemingly close relationship though, and it might surprise some to hear that at one point, Electronic Arts was considering purchasing Valve, as The New York Times is reporting today.
The New York Times doesn’t give a specific timeline for the proposed buyout, but says that at the time, Valve would have been valued at “well over $1 billion” if talks between the two companies had actually progressed that far. It seems that talks didn’t really go anywhere, and there’s a pretty good reason for that, as Gabe Newell says that Valve isn’t a studio we can expect to see bought out by a larger company anytime soon.
Instead, we should expect Valve to “disintegrate” before its ever bought out, with its workers going their separate ways. “It’s way more likely we would head in that direction than say, ‘Let’s find some giant company that wants to cash us out and wait two or three years to have our employment agreements terminate,” Newell said. So no, you don’t have to worry about another company buying out Valve and forcing the studio to change.
For the record, Wedbush analyst Michael Pachter says that Valve is likely worth in the area of $2.5 billion. That number seems a little closer to the mark than EA’s $1 billion valuation, and it may even be a bit a higher than Pachter estimates, given the immense success of Steam and Valve’s library of incredibly popular game series. So, how about it – do you think Valve would be any different today if it had been bought out by Electronic Arts?
