Pad & Quill introduces the Little Pocket Book for the iPhone 5

Pad & Quill is a company probably known by some as the company that created the Little Pocket Book for some of Apple’s iOS devices. G-Shock gets the Eric Haze touch

For one and a half decades, both G-Shock as well as world-renowned graphic artist Eric Haze have come together to work on numerous projects, where among them include a quartet of highly coveted timepieces. In order to parade the fact that G-Shock has been around for 30 years in the market already, both G-Shock and Eric Haze have joined forces yet again in order to come up with a unique G-Shock timepiece which is a testament to the close partnership that exists between Haze and G-Shock.

Eric is an old hand at designing G-Shock timepieces over the years, and he also had the honor to work on G-Shock’s 25th Anniversary logo. Five years down the road, Eric also has the honor and distinct privilege to do so yet again for the 30th Anniversary of G-Shock. The logo itself is engraved on the case back of the GA110EH-8A commemorative watch, where Eric has used reinvigorating colors from previous Haze models, ensuring that the 30th Anniversary watch will come with an iridescent gray finish accompanied by red accents, so that his signature star icon logo will be able to pop off of the watchband.

This particular multi-colored design treatment will continue throughout on the dial with elements of red, black and white, further enhancing the distinct 3-dimensional effect of the layered dial.

Eric Haze said, “This collaboration speaks highly of the modern marriage of design and product, which treats premium collectable accessories as part of everyday fashion and iconography. The 30th Anniversary marks a quantum leap for Casio since the 25th Anniversary five years ago, with G-Shock’s ever-growing impact on the watch design and fashion worlds. My projects with G-Shock over the years have played a big part in my own history too, so this celebration has special meaning for me personally and professionally.”

The GA110EH-8A is one tough cookie to live up to its testament, boasting shock and magnetic resistance, 200M water resistance, auto LED light, world time (29TZ/48Citites+UTC), 4 daily alarms with 1 snooze, 1/1000th second stopwatch (100hr.) with speed indicator , countdown timer, and 12/24 hour formats. It will retail for $150 a pop if you are interested.

Barnes & Noble Nook HD, HD+ vs. Nook Tablet: what’s changed?

Barnes & Noble announces Nook HD, we go handson

When William Barnes and G. Clifford Noble set up their first bookstore in 1917, neither of them could have conceived of an e-reader or tablet, let alone trying to sell one of ’em. Their historical lack of foresight aside, the company outed a pair of second generation slates this morning, and it’s our job to see what technical nips and tucks have been made from version one. If you love to start the day with a spec chart comparison, then why not grab a bowl of cereal and join us after the break?

Cable cloud gaming to challenge Xbox, PS3 and Wii U in 2013

The Xbox 360 and PS3 may face cable boxes edging in on their gaming turf if AT&T, Verizon, Time Warner and others have their way, with the promise of cloud gaming delivered direct to TVs bypassing traditional consoles. Trials are set to begin later in 2012, insiders tell Bloomberg, with broad commercial launches in 2013 at the earliest; games would be more advanced than the simple casual titles currently offered by some smart TV platforms.

That would rely on the sort of cloud gaming technology already seen from startups like OnLive and Gaikai, where remote servers do the heavy lifting in terms of graphics crunching and powering environment-rich gameplay, and freeing up local devices to merely display the results of that processing. Rather than demanding that each subscriber have a $200-300 console, cable services could use internet-connected set-top boxes to display the streamed gameplay with minimal latency, navigated via simple controllers.

Unsurprisingly, none of the cable companies have been willing to admit they’re building up to an actual launch, though they’re making the right noises. AT&T says it is “exploring unique ways to offer cloud gaming services to our TV and broadband customers,” while Cox echoes that sentiment and claims it too is “exploring” cloud possibilities.

Although all are used to on-demand content delivery, they’re taking no chances getting cloud gaming right. Experts Playcast Media Systems, CiiNOW, and Agawi have all confirmed that they are in talks with US cable companies, though refuse to say which. Some of the cable firms are exploring using smartphones as controllers, further reducing the potential cost of entry to subscribers.

Meanwhile, console manufacturers aren’t standing still as smart TV solutions challenge their home turf. Microsoft already offers video content with Xbox LIVE, and will add SmartGlass to spread multimedia across multiple screens. More recently, Nintendo revealed Nintendo TVii, its new on-demand and TiVo-integrating home entertainment system based on the upcoming Wii U console, which will turn the GamePad tablet-styled controller into an advanced remote.

Survey: iOS 6 Leads To Decrease In Device Satisfaction Among iPhone Users

image

Apple’s iOS 6 doesn’t appear to be doing the company any favors when it comes to user satisfaction, according to a new poll conducted by mobile customer research firm On Device. The survey of just under 16,000 iPhone owners in the U.S. found that compared to iOS 5, those with iOS 6 were slightly less satisfied with their devices. The drop is small, but still noteworthy because On Device says this is the first time it’s seeing a drop in satisfaction.

“We have always seen an increase in device satisfaction as consumer upgrade their mobile operating system from one version to another,” On Device CEO Alistair Hill explained in an emailed statement, adding that that’s also traditionally been the case among Android OS versions. The company notes that especially compared to the jump between iOS 4 and iOS 5, which shows strong improvements, the drop from iOS 5 to iOS 6 seems especially unusual.

Consumers have not responded well to the replacement of Google Maps with Apple’s own mobile maps offering, which seems to be the primary source of a lot of frustration. That’s likely the problem that’s led to much of the dissatisfaction seen in the On Device survey, since aside from some issues with how the App Store now displays search results, I’ve seen few other complaints.

It’s also worth noting that despite a slight decrease in satisfaction vs. iOS 5, generally, satisfaction is still very high overall, and Apple still seems to have a significant lead on Android devices, according to a recent study by J.D. Power. In other words, while iOS 6 may have some disappointing features, judging by these results it looks unlikely to have a material effect on iOS device sales going forward.

Paparazzo: iPhone Flash-tastic for both Pics and Video

The iPhone is far from perfect, but I have to admit its a pretty handy tool. I remember not so long ago that I often missed out on pictures or video of a whole host of things, from my daughters first steps, to an amazing bar fight and what to this day, I swear was an alien abduction. I simply didnt have a camera with me. Now that I have an iPhone I am prepared. I just wish the flash was a little more, well, professional.

Check out the Paparazzo concept, designed with fun in mind, the Paparazzo was meant to pick up where your stand alone iPhone leaves off. With a retro look and feel this flash accessory is easy to use and will give you professional results not only in your front and rear facing picture taking, but in your video shots as well.

With a 300 Lumen LED, you can even adjust the light for both your photos and your videos from zero to full brightness, using only what you need and avoiding dreaded flash washout (ever have an iPhone pic where your intended has no discernible nose?) simply dial the light up or down for your photo or video from zero to full bright and don’t worry about killing your battery, the Paparazzo packs its own.

Yes, the Paparazzo can be used with almost any standard tripod and it has three modes dedicated to photo, video, or brightness adjustments which can be easily selected with the push of a button. Developers are working on an integrated app and one that is compatible with the iPhone 5. It’s just a concept for now, but if you like the idea you need to let them know at paparazzolight.com. You can count me in, just for the movie light alone.

iRobot Looj 330 – Don’t Drag the Ladder

We’ve covered the Looj before, the first time it seems we thought it was a bit of a novelty item. Then it was redesigned and it looked as though the Looj might actually emerge as a pretty nifty tool. Well, the folks over at iRobot stuck with it and with the last update the Looj 330 is simply smarter and better than ever before, so forget dragging the ladder around your house this fall and check this out.

iRobot, the same folks that brought you the Roomba robot vacuum have perfected the robotic gutter cleaner. This little beast can clean up to 30 feet of gutter in about 5 minutes and can swipe past about 200 linear feet on a single charge. Using a handy remote control, you can drive this leaf hungry menace much further along your house than ever before. Get the job done faster, and more importantly… safely.

The Looj works by using a unique combination of onboard tools, like the high velocity 4 stage auger which breaks apart gutter clogs and then tosses them out of your gutters, and the new scraper and sweeper system that brushes out the remaining debris.Waterproof and able to be cleaned with a simple spray of your garden hose, you have directional control of both the Looj and the auger, and this models new lower profile allows you to clean more gutter types than ever before.

How much have you been paying to have someone come clean out your gutters? or worse yet, have you been up on that ladder yourself? At 299 bucks the Looj 330 may be just what you need. Check out iRobot.com for ordering information.
