Nexus 4 support page goes online

You can more or less feel the LG Nexus 4 right in the palm of your hands now, considering how the device is due for a reveal next Monday. This could very well be the first of many devices that carry the Nexus brand name, and another confirmation that points towards the existence of the LG E960 would be its support page going live on the LG website. This support page is not yet available on every localization of the company’s site, the UK and Australian versions do show the existence of such a page if you want to know.

Right now, only placeholder graphics are there to depict the actual handset, and you cannot quite download the phone’s manual just yet. Still, this is but one of the clearest signs yet that the LG Nexus 4 is upon us. Will you be picking up the Nexus 4 when it arrives on store shelves, or will you give it a miss and see just what do some of the other hardware manufacturers have up their sleeves in terms of the Nexus brand name?

AT&T’s Nokia Lumia 920 to launch this November 11th

If you have managed to stand steadfast in your resolve not to pick up an Android-powered or iOS device over the years, simply because your loyalty to the Windows Phone platform proved to be too strong, then you are in good hands if you throw your lot with AT&T as the mobile carrier is said to offer the Nokia Lumia 920 over at their network from November 11th onward.

I guess this means the good people over at Italy will be getting their Nokia Lumia 920 a day later after us folks at the US, considering how there are other sources online that do mention Italian carrier TIM will be rolling out the Lumia 920 on November 12th across the pond. The Lumia 920 is shaping up nicely to be an AT&T exclusive Stateside, where it will come in a trio of colors with a starting price of $149.99 that will be accompanied by a new two-year contract. Which color would you prefer your Lumia 920 to come in?

Nikkei, Reuters claim Panasonic may quit European cellphones after its second bruising

Panasonic Eluga underwater

Once bitten, twice shy. Panasonic backed out of the European cellphone market in 2005 and gave it a second chance with its Eluga smartphone this spring, but both Nikkei and Reuters hear that the company is already considering its second withdrawal. A tough economy and a presently successful cost-cutting initiative (not to mention an uninspiring product, if we’re honest) could have Panasonic exiting Europe before its fiscal year winds down at the end of March. Of the two as yet unconfirmed sources, Nikkei is going even further — it believes that Panasonic is considering either a partnership to justify its Japanese business or else waving goodbye to cellphones altogether. Nothing’s certain until Panasonic says so. If there’s any truth to the story, though, we could see one more casualty in a rapidly thinning smartphone market.

HTC One X receives Android 4.1.2, HTC One S to follow

According to Jack Tong, the General manager of HTC North Asia, he announced at a press event earlier today that the Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean update will begin to make its rounds for their high end smartphone known as the HTC One X from today onwards. Not only that, Tong added that the mid-range HTC One S will not be left out sometime down the road, although a more specific time frame was not listed. Just what will Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean bring to the HTC One X? For starters, how about the most recent Sense user interface version, which is actually HTC’s skin on top of the Android operating system to facilitate an easier and more user-friendly experience?

If you happen to own the HTC One X and have yet to see the Android 4.1.2 operating system update arrive on your handset, we would suggest you play the patience card and wait for it. After all, it could very well be a staggered rollout, so patience is the keyword here.

Nexus 10 spotted, to come with Android 4.2?

Are you all stoked up for next Monday’s Google event which will, in all probability, see the announcement of a fair number of Nexus branded devices such as the Nexus 4 from LG and the Samsung Nexus 10 tablet? The latter could very well be pictured as depicted above, as we were also privy to sample photos taken with the Samsung Nexus 10 earlier this morning. BriefMobile seem to have a ninja slip them some photos of the purported Nexus 10, where we now have more concrete speculation as to the reported specifications found underneath the hood.

How does a dual-core 1.7GHz Samsung Exynos 5250 processor with a Mali-T604 GPU sound to you? All of that will be accompanied by 2GB RAM, 16GB of internal memory, a 5-megapixel rear-facing camera, NFC, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 4.0 connectivity, with a Super AMOLED display boasting 2,560 x 1,600 resolution rounding everything up. Oh yeah, did we mention that Android 4.2 would come with the Nexus 10 right out of the box?

Google Nexus 10 tablet leaks with Chomebook processor inside

It’s time to get ultra-powerful with the Google Nexus 10, a tablet made by Samsung whose details have been spilled essentially in full in both a couple of photos and details galore today. This device has been manufactured by Samsung and does not appear to be all that far away from the Galaxy Note 10 or the Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 in its form, but its innards are all new and fabulous. The folks at BriefMobile have let this chicken loose in the farmyard with the photo of the front you see here and the screenshot details you see below, they coming complete with Android 4.2 – the next generation Google mobile OS.

This update to the operating system does not appear to be making a whole lot of aesthetic changes from what we’ve seen thus far, instead focusing on new functionality in the environment we’ve already seen in 4.1 Jelly Bean. As far as the innards of the device we’re seeing here, great things appear to be in the pipe. Starting with a 10.1-inch AMOLED display with 2,560 x 1,600 pixel resolution, we’re right in on the high definition universe finally here with the standard Google Nexus. That’s 298.9 PPI, by the way, more than the current hero iPad at 263.92 – we’ll see how they really compare soon.

The Nexus 7 will play second fiddle to this beast if indeed these specifications turn out to be true, what with none other than the 1.7GHz Samsung Exynos 5250 sitting inside to power it. This processor is a dual-core bit of architecture – but before you have a heart attack over it having less cores than the Galaxy Note II, note this: it’s Exynos 5, and likely going to be the same chip that appears in the Series 3 Chromebook we just reviewed from Samsung. If this is indeed true, this tablet will have real hardcore computing power without a doubt.

Also inside is 16GB of internal storage, NFC, Wi-fi, Bluetooth 4.0, and a 5 megapixel camera on the back. The front-facing camera is more than likely 1.5 megapixels strong or better and ready for some Google+ hangout action. The GPU inside this beast will likely be the Mali-T604, and you’ll have 2GB of RAM ready to rock.

It’s likely that we’ll be seeing this machine on the 29th at the Android event that’s also been teased to be opening “the playground” with more Android fun than you can shake a stick at. This means we’ll probably be seeing the Nexus 4 as well, and probably a bit more software than we’ve seen in leaks thus far.

Check the timeline below for some more expansion on the Nexus rumors that have appeared over the past few weeks and also hit up our Android portal for sweet Google mobile OS excellence. Also note that we will definitely be at the Android event on Monday with bells on – lots of action coming up!

This Down Jacket Keeps You Warm Even When It’s Wet

A puffy down feather jacket is one of the lightest and warmest things you can wear. But the tradeoff is that if you get it even the slightest bit wet, you’ll be wearing a cold soggy mess. Not the Brooks-Range Mojave, though; thanks to a special coating on the feathers, it doesn’t skimp on the warm when it’s wet. More »

Make the most out of Google in Windows 8

Assuming you have just made the migration to the Windows 8 operating system, you might find the entire experience a wee bit disoriented. After all, it does take some time to get used to a new operating system, and Windows 8 is no different. Some folks who do rely on Google’s suite of apps might want things to work as they did before, which is why Google has shared just how one is able to get their Google experience back, so to speak. The team over at Google designed and built a new Google Search app and Chrome browser for Windows 8, while setting up a simple site so that you can, in essence, “get your Google back.”

The Google Search app sports a clean and recognizable user interface at first glance, and the newly integrated voice search will allow you to naturally speak questions. Thanks to touchscreen sensitivity, its image search and image previews have been specially constructed and programmed for such interfaces, and you will also receive immediate results as you type with Google Instant.

The Chrome browser will remain as it is, although there are some customizations thrown into the mix for touchscreen use, such as larger buttons as well as the option to keep Chrome open next to your other favorite apps.

Microsoft Surface Unboxing, Review Coming Up…

Our retail unit of the Microsoft Surface has arrived from the Microsoft store, and the packaging looks a bit different from the press units, so here’s the unboxing video and some photos of the unit.

We are currently working on the full review based of the actual units that people will buy (retail), so keep an eye out for it on Monday morning. We will go over the design of course, but more importantly, we will cover critical aspects of the tablets such as productivity with Microsoft Office, USB devices, Internet browsing, battery life and off course, apps.

On that note, if there are things that you want to know about the Microsoft Surface, drop a comment below, and we will try to address them in the review. In the meantime, take these images and movie as a teaser. So far, the build quality is just as we expected, and the overall user interface is fast and fluid. Next: let’s see if the device can live up to the hype.

Google Nexus 10 leaks Android 42, Exynos 5250 17GHz, 2,560 x 1,600 resolution

Unless we’re looking at one of the most elaborately photographed fakes in the world, this is the Nexus 10. With the Nexus 7 apparently going over quite well at just $199, it was only ever a matter of time before the Nexus family expanded to house a 10-incher. With Google’s own Vic Gundotra posting images from a unit that he’s using at some exotic locale, it seems that another unit has slipped beneath the camera at BriefMobile. The site has managed to apprehend one of the 10.1-inch slates, and in turn has discovered quite the bounty of information.

Internally, there’s (reportedly) a dual-core, Cortex-A15-based 1.7GHz Samsung Exynos 5250, a Mali-T604 GPU, 2GB of RAM, 16GB of internal storage (though no microSD expansion slot), a 5 megapixel rear-facing camera, NFC / WiFi, Bluetooth 4.0 and a Super AMOLED panel with a drool-worthy 2,560 x 1,600 screen resolution — yeah, that’s well into “Retina” territory at 298.9 pixels per inch. You may recognize that Exynos 5250 from Google’s recently released $249 Chromebook, but here, it’s being used to push Android 4.2. Those hungry for more can visit the source link, but don’t go in hoping to extract an asking price.

Update: Well, if the pictures weren’t enough, BriefMobile has just popped a five-second long video of the device, which you can glance at after the break. Don’t get too excited, however, as it’s merely just someone going from the home screen into Chrome.
