Kia Unveils Four New Justice League Superhero Themed Vehicles

A few weeks back we mentioned a customized Kia Optima SX Limited done in partnership between Kia and DC Entertainment in a Batman theme. I don’t think a billionaire/playboy/superhero would be seen cruising around in a Kia personally. Still the Batman car was pretty cool.

Kia has now unveiled four more super hero themed customized cars at SEMA 2012. The other four cars are styled after other core members of the Justice League include the Flash Forte Koup, Aquaman Rio 5-door, Cyborg Forte 5-door, and Green Lantern Soul. All four of the new cars have customized exteriors with cues from the superheroes outfits as well as customized interiors.

Most of the cars were done in cooperation with West Coast Customs, with help from RIDES and Super Street for others. All five customized superhero vehicles are on display in Las Vegas right now. I guess this will reveal my comic book ineptitude – but I’ve never even heard of Cyborg. I hear there’s a Wonder Woman car somewhere in that picture parked next to her jet. I can totally imagine Doctor Sheldon Cooper cruising the streets in the Flash Forte Koupe, even though he doesn’t like to drive.

80,000 Pounds Of Walnuts Stolen In California

As the Northeast hunkered down in preparation for Hurricane Sandy, authorities on the West Coast were embroiled in a seriously nutty mystery: the disappearance of 80,000 pounds of walnuts, stolen in two installments, from Northern California.

According to the Associated Press, the walnuts were first reported missing Friday by workers at a freight brokerage firm. Workers called the Tehama County Sheriff’s Office to say that a truckload of walnuts, purchased by Seattle company F.C. Bloxom and Co., never reached their destination in Miami.

The incident was then matched to a similar theft a few days earlier. A heist on Oct. 23 involved 40,000 pounds of walnuts, which were picked up in Los Molinos, Calif., but never arrived in Texas, where they were expected, NBC 5 Dallas-Fort Worth notes.

Climate Change And Hurricane Sandy: How Global Warming Might Have Made The Superstorm Worse

From Climate Central’s Andrew Freedman:

As officials begin the arduous task of pumping corrosive seawater out of New York City’s subway system and try to restore power to lower Manhattan, and residents of the New Jersey Shore begin to take stock of the destruction, experts and political leaders are asking what Hurricane Sandy had to do with climate change. After all, the storm struck a region that has been hit hard by several rare extreme weather events in recent years, from Hurricane Irene to “Snowtober.”

Scientists cannot yet answer the specific question of whether climate change made Hurricane Sandy more likely to occur, since such studies, known as detection and attribution research, take many months to complete. What is already clear, however, is that climate change very likely made Sandy’s impacts worse than they otherwise would have been.

Antonio Villaraigosa Dances To ‘I Believe I Can Fly,’ Flapping His ‘Wings’ And Singing (VIDEO)

The Mayor of Los Angeles believes he can fly. Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa’s inner bird came out Tuesday as he did a priceless interpretive dance to R. Kelly’s “I Believe I Can Fly.”

In the KFI video above, Villaraigosa has the time of his life flapping his “wings,” dancing and lip syncing. At one point, his wings even appear to lift him out of his seat a few inches. It’s really quite inspirational.

Ken Bonetti, CU-Boulder Academic Adviser, Posts Sign On Door Politely Asking Students To Leave Their Guns Outside

An academic adviser at the University of Colorado has posted a sign outside his office asking that students don’t bring guns inside — a request that university officials say is legally allowable as long as he doesn’t withhold services from those with concealed-carry permits.

About a year ago, when CU’s long-standing gun ban was being challenged in court, economics adviser Ken Bonetti posted a sign that stated absolutely no guns, concealed or otherwise, were allowed inside his office. Since then, the campus gun ban has been struck down by the state Supreme Court.

Earlier this month, Bonetti softened the language after his sign was brought to the attention of CU’s administration.
