Samsung foldable touchscreen device coming soon?

samsung_logoSamsung intends to roll out their very first foldable touchscreen device sometime in 2013, where it is touted to be known as the Samsung GT-B9150. Rumors have been swirling around, touting that this foldable touchscreen device will feature a 5.3” Super AMOLED HD Dual display. Techjailbreak claims that this spanking new Android-powered will be easier to be known as the Samsung Galaxy Q. Do you concur?

It seems that Samsung might actually use their spanking new Exynos 5250 processor, in addition to carrying an 8-megapixel camera at the back, while there will be a 2-megapixel shooter up front. Apart from that, 2GB RAM is tipped to grace the purported Galaxy Q, and connectivity options will come in the form of NFC, Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth, packing a rather hefty 3500mAh battery. We will not be too surprised about the battery though, since you will need all the juice possible to power such a touchscreen. Will it run on Jelly Bean then? Only time will tell, but pretty much everything else is up in the air at the moment. Just last year, we spotted a concept phone with a foldable AMOLED display from Samsung.

LG TM2792 compact Smart TV goes on sale

LG may have a massive 84-inch smart TV for those with big rooms and deep pockets, but the company’s TM2792 hopes to bring 3D and internet-connectivity to those with more humble aspirations. Measuring in at 27-inches, the “mini smart TV” announced back in August is LG’s attempt to cater for single-person households who don’t want to give up premium features like integrated WiFi and media streaming.

So, the LG TM2792 still runs at 1920 x 1080 resolution, and has an IPS LCD panel with broad viewing angles. It stands on a metal base and has ultra-skinny bezels, and LG supports 3D and 2D-to-3D conversion using its passive 3D system.

LG’s “magic remote” is supplied, and there’s input support for HDMI, VGA, composite and component, along with SCART, three USB ports, and an ethernet connection. The integrated WiFi supports WiDi and WiFi Direct, and the USB can handle MHL HDMI for directly hooking up your smartphone or tablet.

The new LG goes on sale in Korea this weekend, and will launch internationally later in the year. No word on pricing at this stage, though interestingly there’s already one third-part seller on Amazon UK listing the TM2792 for £563.49 ($908).

Diablo 3 Linux users auto-banned by Blizzard

It does seem as though there are plenty of raw wounds on the minds of Linux-Wine users who play Diablo 3, as they are still being hammered, so to speak, by Blizzard’s auto-ban service. Some WineHQ forums have already seen a bunch of Linux users complaining about their current auto-ban situation, which actually went into effect a few weeks after Linux users started to play the game. Of course, there are two sides to a coin, and many readers who took sides with Blizzard claimed that the video game company was just banning cheaters, and but there has not been any concrete evidence supplied by Blizzard to confirm that the auto-bans which took place was a result of direct service exploitation. To put it in plain English, there was no admission on Blizzard’s side folks playing Diablo 3 on Linux-Wine were caught cheating.

What do you make of the entire situation? Do you think Blizzard needs to look into the entire context and rethink their next step?

Volvo introduces traffic jam cruise control

One of the more irritating things in life to experience would be getting stuck in a traffic jam, and conditions become worse if you’re driving stick as there would be plenty of clutch play to work around with. Not only that, fuel consumption does increase, and the constant stop-start motion does not sit down well with many. Volvo is thinking of changing things, by offering a cruise control option to slow moving traffic. Whenever the driver pushes a button, the car will automatically follow the vehicle ahead, as long as the speeds are no faster than 31mph.

How does the Volvo know just how close to follow the car in front? Well, it will rely on a clever combination of camera and radar sensors, where it will automatically maintain a safe distance between cars. The Adaptive Cruise Control is currently a feature that can be found in the Volvo V40, where its next evolution is expected to enter production by 2014. There is one problem with this though – in countries where other drivers do not really follow traffic laws, there are bound to be some rude and inconsiderate drivers who find a space in front of you, cutting into your lane without second thought.

Apple adds Rubles and other currencies to App Store, bumps minimum price to €0.89 in Europe

Apple adds Rubles and other currencies to app store, bumps minimum price to 089 in Europe

After announcing slightly under par financials, Apple has added more ways it can be paid for apps, though it also bumped the minimum freight to get one across Europe. The new lowest price users in France, Germany, Italy and other nations “over there” can pay for an app is now €0.89, a euro-dime bump from before — apparently due to the weak euro and local tax hikes. On the other hand, Cupertino also added more currencies accepted at its store: South African Rand, Turkish Lira, Russian Rubles, Indian Rupees, Isreali New Shekel’s, Saudi Arabian Riyal, Indonesian Rupish and UAE Dirham can all now be used to pay. Apple has tinkered with its prices before in varying amounts overseas depending on the nation, so you may want to check your own country’s App Store for the news — bad or good.

LG looks towards webOS Smart TV

Smart TVs are starting to creep into our living rooms slowly but surely, thanks to a decent Internet connection that has made its way into just about every single home. LG, for instance, is said to debut a new Smart TV that will run on the now defunct webOS. No idea on just how LG intends to go around implementing a webOS-powered Smart TV, as it sure as heck is a whole lot harder to develop compared to what we hear on paper. LG did sign an agreement with HP to make use of the webOS service earlier in 2012, where engineers from both companies have worked together, and LG is said to have sent its dual-core L9-powered motherboards to webOS employees for further in-house testing.

Apart from that, the people over at webOS Nation did say that some of the more popular Smart TV applications such as Netflix will be rebuilt from scratch via the Enyo software that was used for developing HTML5 apps. Could we be looking at a webOS Smart TV prototype appear at CES next year?

iPad mini shipments slipped to 2 weeks now

Despite all the negative feedback surrounding the iPad mini’s reason for existence and how it does not actually bring innovation to the tablet market, here we are with what most analysts would have expected – the iPad mini will still do quite well, as its shipping time has already slipped to a fortnight since its announcement. Pre-orders for the iPad mini opened today, and it did not take too long for customers to snap up the 7.85” tablet, where its shipping time has moved from November 2nd to “two weeks” for the WiFi only 16GB model, as well as the white version of said tablet.

Apple did mention, however, that folks who decide to jive with the 32GB and 64GB black iPad mini models will still be able to receive their pre-orders within a week, although it must be noted that these units will only be dispatched in “some areas”. No idea on where these “some areas” are.
