Sundiata Bilal Simba, Truck Driver, Steals And Sells 1,500 Cases Of Beer

Truck drivers carry precious cargo every day. So precious, in fact, that sometimes they take that cargo into their own hands.

Truck driver Sundiata Bilal Simba, 52, was assigned to transport some 1,500 cases of Budweiser beer from Houston to Corpus Christi, Texas. When the shipment never arrived, Simba’s boss grew concerned, The Houston Chronicle reports. At first, Simba claimed the freightliner had broken down, then he admitted that he had sold the beer “because he needed the money.”

Less than a week later, police responded to reports of beer being sold from rental trailers at a Northeast Houston residence. Police were also able to match bar codes linking Simba’s shipment to the beer being sold, the Associated Press reports.

Veterans’ College Drop-Out Rate Soars

WASHINGTON — In the decade after World War II, 2 million veterans went to college on the new GI Bill, and almost all of them graduated and went on to power the post-war economic boom.

This fall, tens of thousands of Iraq and Afghanistan War veterans are enrolled in colleges and universities across the country, courtesy of the GI Bill. But almost all of them — 88 percent — will drop out by next summer, feeling isolated and frustrated in an alien culture.

Before they disappear from campus, they will contribute to another dismaying statistic: student veterans are seven times more likely to attempt suicide than their civilian counterparts.

Free Wedding Dress From A Bride Who Wants To ‘Pay It Forward’: Winner

When Renée Stroinski first learned she would be receiving a gorgeous wedding dress for free, she reacted the way any self-respecting bride-to-be would under the circumstances: she freaked out.

“I screamed! I was so happy — I couldn’t believe it!”

The 25-year-old Fairlawn, NJ-based student is planning to marry her boyfriend of TK years, Zac Follmer in the fall of 2014, but thanks to their collective student debt (he graduated with an MBA from Seton Hall in South Orange, NJ in June; she is set to graduate with a five-year accounting degree in the spring of 2013), her dream of a perfect wedding — and the dress to go along with it — seemed totally out of reach. “I had conceded to the fact that I wasn’t going to wear an actual wedding dress. I was shopping for an evening dress,” Stroinski told HuffPost Weddings.

Erik Highsmith, UNC-Chapel Hill Football Player, Accused Of Plagiarizing 11-Year-Old

Are you smarter than a 5th grader? Then maybe don’t try to plagiarize one.

That’s what one University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill football player is accused of doing. The News & Observer reports a review found class assignments submitted by Erik Highsmith, a senior wide receiver, appeared too close for comfort to certain essays posted on the Internet:

The first entry was virtually identical to a passage on an education website written by four 11-year-olds for their peers. The second mirrored much of an essay someone posted on Urch.com, a website that helps people prepare for the SAT, GRE and other college entry exams.

Mario Kart Tracks Get Recreated in Roller Coaster Tycoon

Many consider the Roller Coaster Tycoon series to be a classic game that satisfies your SimCity-like urges to build stuff, but without stuff like earthquakes. Roller Coaster Tycoon is simple, but can also be a deep experience. You can also use it to build some really cool things – like Mario Kart tracks for instance.

It’s always fun to use one game to build things from other games. It’s not all about Minecraft, people. Although yes, that is a fun and awesome game. Hopefully next we will see someone make a Minecraft version of Roller Coaster Tycoon that has Mario Kart tracks.

So now I’m curious, who out there still plays Roller Coaster Tycoon? If you don’t, what is your favorite sim/building game?

Brad Brandon, Minnesota Pastor, Links Gay Marriage Support To Adolf Hitler, Nazi Germany

A Minnesota pastor has apologized after sparking the ire of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) rights advocates by implying that support for same-sex marriage is akin to Nazi Germany.

CBS Minnesota reports that Rev. Brad Brandon asked residents at at least three recent rallies: “How many of you are familiar with what happened in World War II under Adolf Hitler?”

As video footage of one rally attests, Brandon then went on to compare Hitler’s anti-Semitic actions to what he believes is happening to Christians who oppose marriage equality now. “What I’m simply saying is that Adolf Hitler took away two fundamental rights from a group of people in order to suppress them,” he says in the clip, evidently part of a 40-minute Power Point presentation intended to sway voters to support the marriage amendment. “Those two fundamental rights are the same rights that are being taken away from the Christian community.”

Microsoft Windows Store opens today in 231 markets

Today Microsoft is hosting their official Windows 8 launch party. We’ll be learning all about the new and improved Windows 8 experience. That isn’t all though. Another main feature of the Windows 8 experience is the new Windows Store — the download center of Windows 8-based PCs, notebooks tablets and more. While we didn’t get anything too new or specific today, here’s what Microsoft’s Steve Sinofsky had to say:

The new Windows Store will be the heart and download center of Windows 8, and even more importantly Windows RT — since Store apps are the only ones that will work properly in Windows RT. Then again we already knew that. Sadly we were hoping to report at least a few numbers regarding the brand new Windows Store and how many apps will be available today, but that didn’t happen.

However, Sinofsky did share a few tips that hints at Windows Store being one of the biggest and best App stores in the world. Between PC’s, Laptops, Ultrabooks, and tablets the Windows Store has the biggest audience and the most potential of any “App Store” today. Clearly aiming at Android and Apple in that regard. The sheer number of devices that developers can target is the largest of any platform. While we didn’t get any actual numbers to brag about (they didn’t have any bragging rights apparently) Microsoft was quick to point out that their Windows Store will have more apps “at launch” than any other app store in history. Clearly meaning they have a great start, but that’s basically it.

The all new Windows Store in Windows 8 is enjoying the grand opening starting today worldwide. The Windows Store is open for business as of today in 231 markets worldwide, and available in 109 languages out of the gate. More will be added daily and throughout the next few weeks. For any and all details on Windows you’ll surely want to take a peek at our Windows 8 Review, as well as our Microsoft Surface RT Review. Stay tuned for plenty of Windows 8 news all day long.
